" For heroes on the line to wear -- us. Lots of scifi fantasy Lord of the Rings a lot of oh hogwarts students running around Atlanta last week is who's who's right come mostly about house play or the actual content that inspires the cost him everything. Everything everything so some people showed their affection for the content by dressing up as their favorite players which is awesome by the way. This -- it's it's great to have a parade if he's never been I highly recommend you least go winds. It happens at the end of the August every every year in Atlanta Georgia. Yet it's often the park it's up. You don't look up parties are amazing -- give a bad you can get in and you're willing to stand in my. I -- the police today we went to the B as she party but Danson vote she dance and drink. Governors yeah. We're watching lately what he was watching specifically in the east the so believe or not I watch a lot of PBS in the HD because it's one of the few programs that I find it not only compelling. But I find it you know visually visually stunning because a lot of the stuff you get whether it's no one of their discover. Very that's ever -- nature programs. It's really cool because you know not only do you get to see the and we get to see this round isn't such fidelity. It's -- you're basically you're all over the -- I'm doing all of the air because I'm way too cheap to spring forward DirecTV or in you."
" HD packages on my -- wickedness wolf I think to break from Battlestar Galactica to catch up on drugs and true blood because they edited down weekend this weekend mostly though. Are we doing all the cable and army HTTP every melting it which was a partial sale won't show part one of that -- later in the show. I gotta say though if you haven't seen it check out the new pics from the Hubble telescope the cash available dry. But the image is made by in this case the new wide field camera three bake for not showing your monitor this one is the planetary nebula catalog is in GC 6302 AKA the -- nebula or butterfly nebula. Today look. Astonishing. Again it's one of those things that people don't realize that how amazing and legality of the universe and everything above our heads can look. Especially when it's brought you in high resolution victories will that put two new cameras on the Hubble in May and the results are just starting to trickle through -- site. Is the website we've got links to it on the home page. -- the -- not like this week not so much. CB is this week and that's actually one reason why Roberts night here he's going down. To check out all the new HDTV technology. Especially that sunscreens so there's a lot of dance with me. She can get your HDTVs ridiculously thin we can't talk about yet but there was one that was he had protesting here that was about an inch thick which is pretty amazing -- it's it's literally the thickness of -- that you would find -- in about. Well there was afraid it. So we do so actually should -- he may think about -- pocket size he EV DO camera might -- take a look at the new nano. But apple announced last week it would never find out and actually shoots in -- that was the Big Apple announcement on September night. And there's another set top box AK immediate tank designed to bring -- movies audio files and pictures you're HTTP. Next year's new entry the digital entertainer alive -- EB 2000 runs a 149 dollars according to a buddy mark Cochran over PC mag dot com. There's an astonishingly resemblance to be very solid WB purchasing Western Digital. TV HP media player which costs 129 which. Is kind of a strange one because it only plays from hard drives. The pick your most the other boxes out their play media from your network to you now. We have gotten a ton of requests for round -- of set top boxes -- media tanks especially in your popcorn -- C 200 that's 300 bucks the original popcorn hour a 100 which we reviewed a long time ago when it first came out. And a laundry list of others from apple TV -- excel. And a laundry list of Blu-ray player to be streaming media. We're working on it I think what the biggest things right is is this kind of one massive divide again voodoo and apple and Netflix route two box where it's paid content box design support primarily paid content or or. Download on the man versus all the other boxes out there. Which you know popcorn hour especially places like any format you're ever gonna download off the Internet I mean really this is kind of more of difference."
" Between kind of copyright. Copyrighted material and copy protect copy protected material and content that people -- radio be it and movies. TV shows that they already have. He's just the other hard drive. Now on one hand you have services like broken through Netflix which I really enjoy it we can stream on demand they also -- be. Content and you can get access to a lot of great shows but there's also lot of content that I have stored right on and hard drive that would might be able to access. The same way but I can't because the -- who's designed to work with the specific format and and it. Specifics. Set up yet those are getting there isn't a lot of the Blu-ray players -- not designed -- support streaming media vehicles that."
" We come back grim Rogers top five comic book adaptations were talking feet deep movies -- comic books that help find a good start it your viewer questions right now though. We'll take a moment to thank one of our sponsors. Videogames are cheap and sometimes they suck to -- fifty bucks for new title you can get stuck. -- game fly the largest online video game rental service they got over 6000. Buick classic titles across all consoles and hand held. It's gambling fifty bucks and you've seen how about 1595 a month because the game whatever -- you could -- one to four games of the time keep performs like he decided feel like that before it dropped the big bucks no late fees don't engage shipping is always free so -- play -- send -- back in portals into the next available game when your list. If you like the game your plane if you really -- click keep it on the game -- website in the game as you worked at a discounted price discounts are good. Importantly the data Casey made jewels free of charge and you've grown tired of a title you already own treated him. -- games could be used as credit towards membership fees what could topple that. How about a two week free trial if Tunisian fans get a two week free trial they sign -- flight dot com slash speech he gave him. Some restrictions apply to the site for details employees support initiation by trying out our sponsors like to fly."
" So many projects past present and future based on comic books making it about time we paid our respects to some of the fact. Comic book adaptations to hide that. The top five back. Movies that -- of the format while cultivating and embracing the stories and characters within sounds -- sophisticated it's amazing I love this stuff I it's ridiculous for. Number five Superman the first serious comic book movie. Superman the movie being framed the super hero narrative and more human life highlight the emotional frailties in the barrel right -- the leading edge of special effects. To make you believe that Christopher -- could fly but it was stressful thing for the best part of the no no you're you're still wrong. Until that time the only time -- responsible -- fly with like you know hey let's just put this little small picture of a guy across the screen. Until that time I mean -- You're so cynical. So sanitized as a great with the -- that offers up an awesome simple little goofy Lex -- computer provides a wonderful foil for Christopher -- Clark -- And of course his love interest Lois Lane for yes. And you know the super Superman and really kind of set the tone it helped legitimize the super -- last comic book genre as a legitimate source to base a movie it was no longer goofy stuff for Saturday morning kids reels and more importantly -- lot of money which meant there would be more of them which is a good thing except for the last 23 and four. C'mon -- this Richard and I heard that. -- number four number of course we -- Spiderman. What are Marvel Comics best loved characters Spider-Man the movie keeps the honesty and fun filled nature of the series. Intact with this adaptation. Now although some minor changes are made specifically his web shooters they were mechanical they were organic part of his body. The script incorporates many of the elements that people familiar with the Spider-Man universe. Including his -- made them being bitten by a radioactive spider. And he would rather unfortunate. I think he'll just slip away with a with that with uncle there. Which kind of sets him on this entire town it's a great movie and if you kind of want to see a movie that has a really strong morality play and it. But it's also fun filled an action action packed. That you know anyone in the family you know parents kids can watch Spiderman is it and -- is a great job acting as spider. Number three -- Sin city frank Miller's sin city brings the highly stylized world of sin city the comic book series. Into the big screen and it actually brings the violence to which I -- was -- is brings up behind us but it's amazing because that's. It's still like comic book -- kind of a cartoon violence. It's not grotesque in a way although it is violent in the in the context of the movie itself now focuses on several stories from the serious. Now the world itself is done in amazing black and white. Format. But various elements within that are colored so. Particular characteristic of particular object of interest not colored man it's it's an amazing actually got I nominations for Academy Award on that entire process. Featuring a great great cast including Elijah Wood. Bruce Willis Micky Roark Brian Miki brooks' career back to life. Jessica locate Jessica Alba and that these young adults or -- this city really good the comic book movie both in the used to cinema photography. Unique color processing and highly stylized nature of the story and the and the characters themselves. Yeah it's pretty amazing isn't it basically Robert Rodriguez partnered with Frank Miller walked away from from I wouldn't directors and Quentin Tarantino the and -- guarantee that basically and figure out what this this one it is not for the kids though turn the lights down. Get your -- on it is in amazing. Film to watch yeah. Now speaking of kids if you -- kid friendly when that's still amazing Iron Man your favorite movie. This number is my favorite comic book adaptation it's except for maybe that Dark Knight who will talk about -- eight. You were -- else yet so this movie leverages some amazing CGI some amazing props. Set design and honestly brilliant acting by Robert Downey junior. As the lead character Tony Stark Tony Stark is the womanizing alcoholic head up a high tech defense -- And he literally has a change of conscience. In the middle of the movie that forces -- forces them but. Rather developed him into the person that would become Iron Man to Iron Man basically is the offices of Tony Stark break selfless. There they kind of put himself in harm's ways that vehicle what -- just being -- did party -- happens to be the genius within a limited amount of money. To someone who actually is selfless and -- superhero -- of his own skills. The movie is incredible Robert Downey's acting is incredible supporting cast is incredible. The scene she is incredible yet you know. Along the -- you Tony Stark have to develop the technology that is Iron Man and so he treats the power suit of armor to stop a lot of these you know Baghdad and anything. And when he starts off you know there's this amazing flight sequence in the beginning when he's like basically the little kid in the candy shop plan with with the sit around and it's. Breathtaking I mean I never thought CGI can really can it be that new deal that that real bad engaging but it was and I was like. That's really awesome so if you're into a movie that's no nonsense action but still has a really strong plot line. Story and characterization Iron Man is it. Number one and number one ourselves number one I could really decide between these two movies I don't have a number one. It's watch man and a Dark Knight both their shining examples of how sincere appreciation of the comic book medium. Can translate into a stunning movie and incredibly engaging stories. Now watch me based on a comic book series that was said to be and -- mobile watchman was a movie project that refuse to die. From ministry writer Alan Moore basically wrote the entire series he he basically did wash his hands of the project simply because he hated Hollywood. Now after survived that and got option and finally produced. Fox gave a last minute said Warner Bros. you cannot release movies in theaters because we -- him a copy of operate to it. After the course is that settles. What -- three people were amazed. Now it's basically a story about an alternate reality is superheroes do exist -- did exist in contemporary society. Now because this stories were written around the 1980s. It was very much in the Cold War mindset so a lot of that means. The Al -- are based on that. The Cold War the threat of nuclear holocaust. Annihilation and more importantly you know how much -- you played in the leaders of how much faith you placed in heroes just basically deconstruction of the that the superhero identity. Not a story -- starts off with -- one of this appears. An old -- known as the comedian is off by a mysterious person. And his old teammates come together against the find out what happened and in doing so -- huge conspiracy that has implications."
" Not only just -- but everyone else in the world. So it kind of blurs the line between right and wrong what's moral what's immoral and let's have the best interest and and who decides. I mean it's it. Touches on so many of those concepts it's considered to be one of the more. You know deeply involving. And cerebral you know comic book movies available right now but the second one is the Dark Knight sequel to the ground breaking Chris Nolan film Batman begins Dark Knight basically continues these struggle on about Bruce Wayne as bad man. Now the movie a lot more engaging hesitant. Deeper film contract. Because the entire world event and scrutinized not just him. So you know that means essentially on the cusp of shutting down every major crime organization Gotham city itself. The -- steps and in the joker is basically. Factor these. He's not in it for the money -- the -- for the glory in it for his own personal psychological just certain psychological -- you're never sure quite what. I mean -- played by the amazing you know with the late Heath -- To an amazing degree that if you watched that you would have never known it was Heath Ledger until -- line. And it's basically this back and forth between Batman and and the joker and kind of bad management attempted to grips with his own limitations. Also understanding that society. You know it is built in a certain way and we need certain things to to continually. To continue to exist. And you know if you've never seen the movie I highly recommend you run out and -- the movie I don't have a passport. It's it's so amazing it looks astonishing. If 1080. Blu-ray edition and I suggest you get the Blu-ray edition. There are scenes are shot -- that some of the -- outdoor shots and you could actually see the movie actually bump out of its."
" Let their first letter box under sixteen by nine to full frame on -- sixteen by nine screen. When that those IMAX teams come around the other downside of the IMAX scenes as they make -- either already amazingly containing. Funky the sixteen by nine stuff. We got links to everything up on the show and kills us yeah and you know what comic books. Aren't just for kids anymore and -- movies I ice since I things I can sincerely status. That if you really -- into high Def in the movies here's your fan of both you will be cheating yourself if you don't actions when it. -- think about the release is for the week of September 15 2000 at night holidays director's cut in American wolf it's like full -- this year."
" Aren't you start this who -- addition the wide assortment that Tony -- could -- Casablanca. That's child's play crash the complete first season deep impact easy virtue great great data beautifully fifth season. Hannibal Lecter anthology hero Highlander the series he's one iron -- alleged drunken master. Victory My Name Is -- season four punch drunk love the ultimate force support Valentino the last emperor bad -- varsity. The long term and long term to get ads that finally ax men origins Wolverine people it's the holiday season everybody ramped up. For October 31 Halloween. It's it's actually -- Yeah it's -- great selection out there and you know I just keep don't want to leave some wonderful because you're going to be running here story about an online order given that puts -- camp Clinton coming up next. How to mount street if you get your wall without getting hurt or killing the cat. The person that moment thank one of our sponsors that split. They walked to the nearest video store about my house -- you can read VHS tapes in Chinese. Chances are your local video store at least has dvds. " We've got a number of requests for help on mount the HDTVs. Look chances are you have an amazing piece of furniture that was designed for year old and TSE TV it doesn't fit what of the new big screen monitors what do you do what can cut the top off a bit you can buy new -- as they use the base that came with that. But a lot of people out there are wall mounting HT TV's. How do you do it well it depends are gonna have to follow the instructions for each individual model. But there's a whole bunch of things about attaching any wall mount to the wall that haven't commented we're gonna show you. Well how to do it and where you're gonna run into trouble in part one. Of mounting mind you -- CTV will now."
" Right now my HT TV is -- the perfect viewing angle. Senator of the TV. Directly on my line of eyesight I don't look up to watch the television -- have a bad angle side to side. Literally kids that are part of me it is the perfect watching. Unfortunately that puts it at the perfect height from my son -- grubby little fingers to run up. And put fingerprints on the screen now we're trying to hold don't touch and retraining them and it's worked and so far -- but the truth is I've also see him do pull out of the television. But wanna have to your mountain behind me CTV in -- put it a little higher up so that it has agreed to pose little older can understand he's not supposed to do that. So right now we're gonna show everybody how to properly hanging HT TV now -- continue to follow yeah."
" Got coughed up from bombs cafe my dirty work on the house hat. What I really need -- are some -- are a couple tools that are absolutely critical to properly nine HT TV. Number one is a stud finder and which mr. Blair was here with -- today because -- love nothing more than making stud finder jokes we hold one of these up. What it does is it usual white indicate the location to the studs two by force behind your wall. You want to -- your HT TV and this does not just drywall. Yeah ask you can see it with a drill and drill over and over again if you figure out where the study is -- probably not gonna find the center of this done. You what this group mounted in the center of the stud for the maximum holding power. You also want to use an appropriate size drill bit in your drill. Before you put the screw with the stud now if you're lucky you've got directions that tell you which side drill bit used with the -- they -- injury TV now. And the reason I want you to drill hole before -- and rather than hammering this through into the sudden start screw theirs because if you drill you cut the fibers and allow the best possible loss between the threads on this group. And two by four. Instead of basically split in the two by four which is what's likely to happen -- just try to screw into it without drilling first call's gonna need screwdrivers -- appropriate size of the hardware that came with your mouth. It might also need a ranch in this case he created Dracula and you can range viewpoint you like Brett has the faster. I've also seen now thinking Allen -- hardware because of local hardware store on the cheap they are useful. Cordless screwdrivers are not necessary for this project though they powered drill is yourself a favor big borrow brand. By a power drill for this project. And cordless screwdrivers if you want one great he got one great you know have want to -- Few more tools that can be incredibly useful in this process. It level and administering. Well -- and it. Obviously get a strip the cable from the television off the old mountain -- put him out Don and I'm thinkin'. Yesterday MSI am sorry because I really really need decent cable management back here this is embarrassing. But the interesting thing is."
" But ACTV amounts is basically they don't -- stop it different now for every different kind of -- Mac. But the good news after the Mets in the holes on the factories and TV. Once you've read those holes you basically have two choices it can monitor as a flat back four -- back. In the case the directions for the -- you think it's pretty easy skip to the page that tells you which now it's a combination of amounts. He's going to use for the back from television. The simplest ones are 7575. Tournament 200 millimeter -- that primarily use a single bar. Are flat plate that mounts on the back when we're doing as little more complicated. We've got. In theory three screws to put in although there's actually only space for two on the back of this being so you're gonna have to do a little bit puzzling through this before you get this attached to be."
" Out of the walk. Plea that -- got that street there. Unfortunately in the measure twice cut once department we've discovered at. The -- announced. -- actually covering our studs. And I was strange kind of house in terms with those are arranged -- have to trim this off. Here in here so I can actually do this properly on a couple of stunts. We're come back next week after -- got happy orange grinder and cut that off but I would be there right now Pritchard -- at least. And still be married into the week or more importantly an opera house that. We'll be right back memory stick."
" I so we didn't actually get to finish the entire project because you're shells were -- was in the way. -- all basically I have to get my wife and child out of the house put down a blanket -- off the mound for the bookshelves and then I'll be able to finish the installation. But it actually does highlight one important thing before you buy any amount. Do check the specs in -- if you have the available space port because if you don't you're gonna run into a packet it. And you're gonna basically spend an additional weekend and probably lose a few more follicles."
" Find your studs first people exposed location is critical that we don't need to do it. Usually when they're coming back we'll talk about what makes good Blu-ray transfer but first we think we'll -- our sponsors godaddy dot. Reliable secure web hosting without the long term contract. Some restrictions apply see site for details to be sure to check out revision3.com slash GoDaddy for all the teenagers go daddy's deals and codes. It's a piece of the Internet at godaddy.com. And these tough economic times we all wanna save a buck or two you know what that means it's time for us. All sections selection this week's election comes from mr. -- What is -- the PlayStation. Batteries now most we will -- the PlayStation 3 yes they're video game console it but video files no. It as an amazing Blu-ray player yes it was one -- up -- the fastest players when -- leadership Blu-ray -- should be on the market and it's been continually updated since it started just. And the great thing about it is that it's continually update of all as long as you're connected to a network and Sony is very responsible but issuing patches enough for more updates. You can be assured that you'll always meet the latest who expects -- does. -- through the video game -- to yes it is a pretty good at video game set top box also -- thing about media won't you know what via with the new release of the PlayStation 3. Slim and all this is pretty -- it supports bit streaming of dolby true HD indeed yes. So if you have an obvious that they can take advantage that you can get lost -- surround sound audio. So it's gonna actually tell when you talk about -- that the price of eight. Eight he in my past few audio card being the themes of a PS3 slim it's kinda tough to start looking at home theatre box which really into building a home theater PC. Because I mean look at the what's the listed the the PS3 video support so -- ABC HD DivX WMV and paid for a lot of the stuff that you can download off quicktime movie trailers will play on the PS3. And you know of it shows you'll. Find online lost a player on the he has -- without any problems. And -- great thing about it is it's a hundred bucks that -- much less than you're talking about you -- But NS RP budget prices closer to a fifty bucks. The anywhere you can find opportunities typically video game consoles have a very. Tight margins so they lock it in but you can bet against you for the report through a recession clutches don't get sucked into bad -- there's nothing worse than 23 year old video games. And crappy interface. Like what he calls things gain control that's the one -- Pedroia but seriously if you weren't immediately Blu-ray player loved video games and also watch a lot of videos from elsewhere. PS3 is probably one of the best choice to go it."
" Yeah but but there. All right folks coalescing before we go -- from Ohio is -- question about the equality he writes when movies or restored for Blu-ray why this book not very good. This afternoon the films themselves why are some Phil -- to restore for Blu-ray movies from the 50s6070s. And eighties harder to restore high -- the films that today. Also when the first Star Wars movies in the first three Indiana Jones movies eventually come out of Blu-ray in a few years. We'll look just don't as the master from the dvds is a starting point to put the new HP matches of all six films on Blu-ray how are. Kitty hello Kenny good questions. So the thing is Kenny back in the 50s70s. People weren't as attractive."
" So they put a lot of I'm not -- those kind of cover that I have absolutely transfer that over to Blu-ray you you can actually see that. He's -- you're making me look good they personally you better hope Lucas film does."
" Use the master from the dvds because if they do they're gonna release of enhance high definition version and try to get you to pay another three or 400 bucks for an extended yes here's the thing. Mastering the quality of the Palestinian and the quality of the source and the quality of the original. -- all come together to influence the quality of a Blu-ray part of the problem with movies in the 50s6070s. And actually into the eighties. Is whether or not the film was actually restored in most cases the original negative which is being. Basically the most perfect source of video or -- should say film content is the original negative."
" And the the thing is even when it is in a relatively pristine condition for example the James Bond movies. They went back and they cleaned frame by frame then -- literally went through with. But the loop and they looked at each individual. Frame of film and the clean that they restored because. It required that much attention and make sure that when it got transferred over -- get weird artifacts. Our inherent in the -- prep time because in some cases the negatives have faded or if."
" The actual print a lot of cases the only prints that are left of some of the great movies are ones that were actually sent out to movie theaters in the run around the country. So here's what happens is they get -- those and they have to do Telus in which the digital capturing of the information. That they can do post processing which can include anything from a full restoration the wizard of all right it's a classic of cinema so they sat down and actually went through like Roger said. Frame by frame they actually had the original negative thankfully. -- city original three sets of negatives and they literally individually matched each frame. And it you know deep color processing and they can also things like noise processing that edge processing. Which works great if you have a dedicated team on something like a classic the wizard Abbas but if it's a crap castigate these movies that made like a million dollars. They're not gonna spend as much money your time."

If 1080.

" And the thing to understand also a celluloid does break down over time and -- older than movies that probably worse condition of in his domestic captain in the airtight container and let it that way. Oftentimes you know you hear stories about some guy -- you know a film a pristine copy because it was stored away in someone's film vault. Works on my iTunes (via RSS anyway).
American builders fail the three little pigs test. Why, oh why, do they make houses out of wood and plaster board (dry wall)? This is particularly crazy when considering the number of hurricanes etc the country gets.
Everything here is breeze block and brick. There's no messing about finding studs. A drill, a spirit level, a pencil, 4 raw plugs, a screw driver, 8 screws, some washers and about 10 minutes was all it took to wall mount my TV a few weeks back.

Old Movies
We have some of the original film from movies underneath our town (Hutchinson, KS) in the salt mines because of the constant temperature and humidity.

1) Wood is an incredible building material and built properly a wood frame home can be just as durable and long lasting as any a house built from any other material.
2) In states like California that are subject to earthquakes building any home out of brick without suitable reinforcement will result in serious injury during a large tremor. Wood might fail the the 3 little pigs test but boy can it work well during a shake, rattle and rumble here in SF.

I have to disagree about the superhero movies.
As Yahtzee says "Batman is always the least interesting character in everything he's in". The Dark Knight is a good movie, because Heath Ledger plays a brilliantly disturbing joker pulling brilliantly disturbing crimes. It didn't have enough Joker, it had too much Batman (with that terrible growl).
Watchmen may be an excellent graphic novel, but it's an impressive but seriously flawed movie. Spends too much time faithfully recreating graphic scenes without trying to transform them into compelling movie scenes.
Iron Man was excellent because it was an opposite to The Dark Knight, it excels on the charisma of Tony Stark, what a great performance by Robert Downey Jr. Sin City is an example of how to do what Watchmen tries to do, and I'd like to think that this is because Robert Rodriguez is one of the best directors. Roger was completely spot on about Spiderman being a morality play, making it more than just competent comic book movies, making it really engaging.
