Graphic Novel Reviews, Detective Comics #756 & Comic Book Ads: The Mighty Thor #384

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009 – running time 19:57
What do crime books, Conor's storage unit, and Chip's Ahoy have in common? This episode of iFanboy!

Segments

It's the return of the iFanboy Minis... sort of! This week on iFanboy, Josh, Ron, and Conor take a look at a variety of short subjects. Lately, Ron has been really into reading black and white graphic novels and he's here to share his take on a few of his latest reads. In the return of It Came From The Storage Unit, Conor tries to figure out the plot of an old comic book just from looking at the title. And Josh takes a trip down comic book memory lane when he looks through an old comic book, not for the story, but for the advertisements.

Black and White Graphic Novel Reviews

Ron's had independent comics on the brain and here are a few that he's read lately:
Troublemakers from Gilbert Hernandez is a meta spin-off story from the legendary Love & Rockets series.
Noir is chock full of crime stories from some of comics' biggest names in crime, so why does it disappoint?
Second Thoughts tells the tale of two strangers who meet in an airport and fall into very complicated love. Who else has fallen in love? Ron. With this book.

It Came From The Storage Unit: Detective Comics #756

Conor has gone into his storage unit and randomly selected a stack of comics in an attempt to remember the stories just from studying the covers and jogging his addled memory. Will he be successful? The smart money says no, but it will be fun watching him attempt to access parts of his comic book reading brain that have layed dormant for years, and in some cases, decades. This week is Detective Comics #756 from May 2001! How will Conor do up against an 8 year old comic book? Well, if he goes by the cover alone he's going to be in trouble!

Old Ads: The Mighty Thor #384

Comic book ads are a window to the past, and you see them in every book you read, and boy do they bring you back. Josh opens up The Mighty Thor #384 from Marvel Comics, by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, but doesn't bother with the story. He's here for the ads. Ooh look, prizes OR cash!
