Before there was a view of what you -- and I'll get up to ignore what happened before and it just goes -- point you don't need to know all that stuff. So they're bringing back in and -- got to build up a new character and it's really interesting that today all these issues later. It's working."
" What what's interesting and it is and how you say you don't need to know that yet rebirth also dealt with all so it wouldn't you know one dollar and I -- the main thrust of the book was fighting apparent lax which was. This is the evil -- forces took over Allen made a little crazy. And they dealt with the fact that he was -- but in a way that you don't need it need to read all -- about interest in it and sit there and I like and -- that's evidence of -- the writer's ability to take. These characters of these. If histories and make it accessible to new readers again."
" Now exactly that's right that's it let's start if you wanna handle on how Jordan how is -- the universal what is glitz of saarc leaders. Rebirth as a really good -- as a collection of it. And does that the rumored that this can be a big push on it that's the rumor -- always learn yeah well anyway it's collection and it's a good place to start."
" And that's winner Al punches that yes man. So then you can probably -- way ahead right there's there's. Want -- I believe this next this is the beginning of the curry green lantern series. Is a couple of things there you don't need to read I actually stop reading those issues they. Weren't terribly if you commute time there's some stuff would -- are -- the other player out pilots and you'll store bum rushing."
" One thing that they choose to do was establish the new agreements and asked police force. And the poor like they've they've always had the good of course always been an universal peace keeping force but in these issues. Geoff -- really meant like cops at partners they spoke like cops these lingo that the baton a glowing badges and chests of -- this -- it to anything helps him he worked through those speakers to get to the point where."
" The next sort of big thing that happened in green lantern world is disaster or war. Was secured -- was -- actually came after mayor edited and so. You could -- secret origins first but I tend to go and order the paper's editor because it. Makes sense morally justify sister core war basically it's an Astro is is his art is -- and -- his Lexington."
" He's the -- he's the failed regrets as to who used it was a he took his power want to talk parents that I have I have the might to have the right I know what's best for everybody so he decided post will have a sector. But be booted him out he -- evil indeed he formula on core and they had yellow ones that are based on fear and yellow traditionally was the -- of green but it's gone it's gone now in the."
" In the history in addition green lantern and moved back in the day missile storage dude who -- Letterman worked on anything except the color yellow. And bitterness -- which is and how I am a little hokey but because there was this in purity within the power battery which was this parent laxatives fear and all that stuff so its kind in the emotions little more exactly."
" And and so essential core what was the first big event that happened I think that that was you know I think would like Caldor before and had a history they were into. Rebirth but it did not meet new people brought it but when semester course that was such a buzz and people. There's the special that was done maintenance -- first and then the big war that went between agreement an agreement core which is a separate time."
" Oh that's special got a lot of buzz is an absolute right or anyone you want and it's -- it was like four printings it was a net for some reason that one like 48 page special which is really blew up that."
" Well because it was great it was that you had -- he had you know an agreement of course is army. And you had what was class and how Jordan's net arch nemesis -- his own army and it."
" Fought and AM which is our little taste awesome yeah the grave threats that are really really intricately detailed pages I have a page spreads via artist -- benign reason for the most part recently. Who is it has grown to become just as good as you've been asking it is exactly."
" It was it -- special or was in the finale that is an analysis Corwin when that's -- in recent history now -- tradeoff on pages and then. It is like their style was so similar you couldn't even really tell but did both rocket -- was very calm so you get that'll sinister or war and you you enjoy that you probably want to know. From there they are there any pullbacks viewers you pull back and they go back to that the secret origin which is seven issue series. And there's a trade available of that which at the time we -- because there was so much momentum with this and sykora brought the temple back down the -- says it was I think that we that -- because of the thing. They don't yet but -- such a pace in such a frenetic than it is such an excitement to the central core war and then this idea if you were to tell you how currency -- origin."
" But you know -- almost smart because sort of advantage joined in with this mr. pro war yet and didn't have how laws we've all about the right now that they learned not how."
" What it also did was it cemented the relationship between how Germans and -- yes because we find out a lot -- being green lantern and them working together -- there really should -- and then it was it was good because. If this a person that enable revisit that awhile and make it fresh for people and that's -- things Geoff Johns has revealed -- jobs is the architect of this whole thing. He Tomas is working overrun remember record book as well off -- already the other book -- you don't need to read it you should. If you want to Major -- and Georgian. -- and you read core. -- And suggest but it's -- gives you the roof I would lead actress in a circle award because it was intended that way."
" I suppose that the three trades now are up to -- rebirth of -- war and then to two sure it's worth evidence ignored and so many portraits. Good stuff yes and then that brings us up to what will be talking about after the break."
" Hey everybody godaddy.com has what you need to what you need well dot com names as low as one and a nine month. " What there is we're talking about this today and one of the -- everybody is sort that is because the upcoming blackest night event. And this is indeed built since the beginning of the agreement can run that we've been talking about. But really starts up after the secret origin you visited the seeds of that are in there."
" I'm I've been really I mean all of a -- I'm really excited about in the past year to own green lantern as Geoff Johns kind of groups are reviewing -- the cards and what he's been so and that -- and selling. And what he's done is he's slowly introduced. And it happened right at the end of the the semester core war -- that was the trigger so is so basically that we next in the guardians of words though in this big book about oh which is. Has all -- all these prophecies and all this this whole like it's basically the story of the universe. And the guardians are really kind of the kind of jerks and a delay. And as a bunch of stuff they just kind of wanna ignore until Charles it is yeah -- and is -- something they wanna ignore they don't want people to know about things that that in this sort of come out and part of that. Is the fact that there are. Other reasons other than green rings -- yellow -- by the way is like the most elementary. Well what it. So controversial to interest I mean it it just I simply said you know Roy GB of the whole bit yeah range of colors there is an."
" wanna say that it matters is like such a obvious answer and no one did it before exactly you know what else greatest through it he did use what -- vivid -- has written at all yet in that the average -- it was just men worked well for a."
" And what's interesting is that not only because he's using the colors that really look at each one of those colors and see what they represent what emotions connected to it. Could he have with group you know green is will power. And I encourage her innocence and yellow courses fear but say you look at orange and armed represents greed and blue represents hope. And red represents rage or anger in an age and -- this -- love compassion and you know and there's just. There it's so like it's such a ridiculously simple idea wonder why it took forty years."
" That's often the best ideas -- where there almost. People sometimes I think think too hard then and -- look easy so."
" So and so for the past years so we've had all these like I -- leading up to where we got introduced to the -- the red lanterns. --"
" Every every every rules section introduced to us yeah we've met -- people would let the Blue Adams and a with a red leather -- was probably the best a vote of."
" Those -- look at. The daily flights the Blogosphere really it is the red lanterns they spew this red blood clarifying things in his editor so chaotic life and and we. In agreement -- book how George has been at the center does so he you know the red lantern atrocious slaughter or whatever trust the process one remembrance and Astro in how we got in the mix there than he got pulled it and was -- her briefly and then. He manages the blue patterns and you don't blue Leonard says you have to ruin now yeah he's been half blue half green management."
" No one can -- Canada to fight over his spin of the -- from the blue border is more Pennsylvania all this is funny because it's. It's all exploration of how Norton's character and because blues hope. So nervous in Europe and all this began and it's a really. It's interesting how it's worked out so far we don't know what's gonna happen so that that leads us to the blackest night is about the black Clinton's black of course being. The absence of color if you wanna look -- in the sense of what life actually is an unborn is one to believe that later than may be a white Atlanta which is all colors of."
" Mine is probably now. Maybe speculation this -- isolation so blackest night is the is the is the the emergence of the black lanterns and as we've seen through some various teaser art as well as some. Anyway none I have -- I wasn't that -- it but there's some some unfortunately timed toy a the promotions we've gotten some of the characters in its idea of they're basically like almost like zombie -- out of -- comic book from I understand this."
" It's all these dead characters are the black let of course a lot of recognizable people that died shocking. If you just think about who's got the last two years in comments being made it you're still gonna find out. It reminds me of a story that is that was an avengers annual net in the late -- where they had all. But the purpose apparently started they had the fight a budget dead heroes like capital I hardly in a bunch of people like he's mastered that and visits America. -- I'm saying it was incidents that if I think that's true but there was. You know hidden visibility is 44 issues are so yeah went out."
" We'll from the from rebirth feasibility and towards us which is which is that that idea of that life long planned out kind of stories just actually amazing it's like ten -- by the time to see what you know what it it is."
" at the thought and it's it's almost more than we went to tell because of spanning a bunch of different heroes and and if you look for villains are going to be spent all across DCU's so it's it's it's early -- big tail."
" Net -- that's. That's facing away or agreement we give -- the books that you would need. To take get up to speed to take a look sort of recaps -- with rebirth. -- and then disaster or war two books and then if you want a little more deep go deeper in the season origins and what was the fourth then they'll be then there's all printers within."
" They'll be -- the colors and all that and an agent orange things like that. But there are also accurate if you a couple of other sort of see how -- stories you know we at least it. Get the question like what the best of drugstores and just a fraud and little uniform to that there are -- that we was gonna Irvin yeah chronological order here. You can get the olds. Classic -- to the silver excellence. You get this in a showcase but also in the the cheaper soft cover so to prevent the chronicles I'll just doing a really -- and blackmail him. Did Batman and Superman in Latin there really positioning how now is the third yes third. Take a look prominent. Did you characters getting better and it really can have the sorry that a person can interpret prepping a live action so literally pushing -- and as the next but the big guy in the yes. Seeing it is indispensable partner and it also cheaper. Chronicles which -- about ten."
" Box yet an engine in these old stories you -- to imagine how Jordan as insurance salesman. How Jordan as toy salesman whistles. You know these these do -- like they're out of the time their late fifties early sixties. His his -- faces a little unfortunately. It."
" But if your fan of that stuff he -- things like commerce to flash you know that's music director injury."
" By John Bruno who is grow a lot of the classic -- stories and they're drawn by Gil Kane who's loving you -- are just very smooth and they're very nice and and that's you know showcase what to do is the first appearance. That's that's all there the class actors that."
" Then you get to the sixties and seventies there did an -- Neal Adams could that agreed Arab which is this is they I'm old hardcover edition that it. Thought more about this is the finest homes is the first summit president -- you know. -- to have written soft -- a commitment to to do it was tough but this is that famous hard traveling heroes. Story -- however Alec -- agreement could Arab go across the country and -- basis. We are social animals find out that I like how Jordan. You really know are both going on on the ground she did know about the black man in about the blue man here -- romance but not on a black man but at the Pentagon. This is no less of the time in this business. In this old -- I mean this is very much of this was the so there's a seventy early seventies is innocent loses listening to 77. To 73 this is very much on the -- And have to sort of put your -- and into the fact of a top state genocide -- popular a lot of lot of."
" X application that you would be used and it's it's may and may in the air my feelings and look at the social -- of America as a travel cross country and and it dealt with also on the was well -- to deal with drugs is as a topic as green arrows. -- CDs heroin addict and that's that's a classic cover the other thing it does this set up the relationship which is still going on this that Ali clean and how Jordan are. The very best friends they have been for a long time also -- so I don't know. Com what's a what's affinity you have to -- as a character in the history of that he's had this intense friendship with the screen now and marry Allen whose flash. And able to represent two completely different types of you know it's it's -- little ones are exactly begin ending both their friendship with -- is very different than one another and it's always instant when the three of them are together. Which had a -- a little bit to the -- stuff and you know but."
" short shrift she's that it estimates that it armaments. She. Is pretty bird. None of this is like the Arab network -- pushing you know here all the titles Greyhound green lantern out of Jesus and it -- yeah one of these stories that that excuse me one of the first how good socialism I ever read was on daily you're one. It might mark -- drawn by very -- and moment this is a wonderful daily stewards at all the issues the big -- story excellent."
" Cap on after this they also -- he lost this story call very little portable Terry how. Which I don't believe exists -- out of -- that's like fine. Also good -- this this was a better story to be completely honest -- for -- of the jail way. Green arrow regrettable that in and very Allen. She's good retelling of silvery hostilities a modern version of the year margin in the LA which is and mark wade. At this is done right coming off the heels can come dreams tenement and -- DC kind of landmark weighed in over the job this is the very card it's -- is very smooth -- this --"
" Well this is what may they took the -- cod and you know make it. Yes it makes sense doesn't it get rid of one woman who puts a black and this I think this assistant Rick on another matter it's a fantastic resource is fantastic. -- this is a fortunate I think it's also out of print but you can find them. A couple of stores or use online about this is online but this -- conventions in the world a better jail storage which candidates is also cuts and Thomas. -- in -- I took out compliments that this is very much to a degree air."
" If you would ask me what my favorite. How -- story is I would probably tell you the new frontier but Aaron -- And if not specifically Hondurans -- but he's -- here is that the -- yet he's -- he's -- so is -- the whole -- excellent class hosting -- off -- of toss they don't have to buy the the big balls out of solution although it's all of."
" New additions -- that they any reform and I regret that it's Davis that's the original. App store which would out of print but the data reported back Democrat -- does."
" There's also soft coverage you get darn -- in his classic kind of you know almost retro styles. The new frontiers that. Retelling of the origins of the DC universe of the silver age matching up to the year of the events would act as they actually would have exactly so this really is a -- like. -- how Jordan. Well Israel entered in 196960. Then. What would you be like but without the -- necessity of the older it was also time in the book the colleges when they came out a common excellent showcase like two came out the same here that's the year he comes out an assortment. On any terms of the hustlers like cash and it deals with the atomic age -- just -- the the you know the subpoenas of communism aspect to it -- aliens effort to space travel like it touches on all the things that are American early fifties as well as this DC is a superhero world late fifties and this is it's. And also more beautiful book you'll --"
" Now also if you do what visual reminders at -- minute. Adaptation -- and Hal Jordan as the main character that is well also you want some of that action and a man."
" And action on -- movement. I think and it's funny he's green -- is one of those characters -- when -- flash agreement and the Pentagon Batman and and it might have always kind of like the community go -- the super friends you know and it's just a really -- time. Medicare."
" You know analysis is I was -- the slots. People say how boring. Financed through because -- I think it's a kind of character. Is more military type of guys that test pilot and I think from all these stories she's she's a very distinct competitive character and embattled by the idea that is boring at all and that's. Leftover feelings from from previous dozen people who are -- well."
" It's and it's the feeling that that caused them to run wild with a character basically destroy him and and on the like the angry fan boy away. But by destroying him. They were able to go up again we have some finality as is. Better than what we have if they didn't have to go crazy and industry code you know go apparel absolutely all kinds of -- city stuff. We wouldn't get what you gotta do now -- Jeff does do. Point sound and it is excellent Damien you might sound like what's going on in the commissary nobody could lead to something better on the road for patient. Because fertilizer in this country to grow very very patient exactly."
" So hold to others about just how Jordan stuff that's gonna to stuff hopefully we caught shopping we give -- budget -- you to check out. You really can read those -- we listed. You know which we'll have a -- on the website. You gotta be good to go you can get should jump right on the blackest night they're radically -- to be happy and all these albums to."
" good source for happiness so you can write in anything you might wanna say contact an Afghan boy that's always the you know address kind of -- him enough combat hours if you can call on what you'll I don't know that I have to call -- any fan boys let's let me three to 66 and seven."
" And I -- what I come elevated discussion for the show we'll talk blackest night. Will list all these books here we've got want to mention you can -- has forgotten if Josh is --"
" And over the if you had to if you let him but I -- puts us Amazon you -- see a whole list -- to talk about it vibrancy from Amazon or get him but I can't -- story check -- we -- T shirts. Like the one wearing a war on you because member about employment and community there we appreciate it."
" It is this is just hours and hours -- could you answered a Levin and I think I mean that's we should watch this position to move it let's -- panels. Gorgeous this every page. The southern frontier -- hello. It was enough to leave that. Million happens and it. -- To give at all convert to take previous academic credit it back and I don't -- it was a battle of pencils is responsible studies of some six. What have all that left -- I've seen that. And I just I don't want to do anything actually why the at what -- the audition and I get the real real so their idea didn't have a I did -- out of the -- system business and have a roll up should there have those markers isn't gonna sit back from the and get --"
" Yeah."
" Yeah well. So the blue ring at all about hope to open up and -- development greed greed greed is all that will power -- him. What's your -- do that yet. Bills shared insurance policy I have to check in nagging I cook I -- say it. This and a fan boys brought to you by. Godaddy.com. And netflix.com. " The next sort of big thing that happened in green lantern world is disaster or war. Was secured -- was -- actually came after mayor edited and so.

" You know analysis is I was -- the slots. People say how boring. Financed through because -- I think it's a kind of character.
I remember reading through Rebirth and kinda hating it--Parlalax being a yellow fear demon always felt like a cop-out to me, espicially since I remember Johns saying that he would be on a road for redemption. It felt more like Johns wanted to take out all of Hal's responsibility for his action because he's Johns' Mary Sue.
However, listening to you guys talking about different parts of Hal's character coming on with each ring...was I mistaken? Do they ever acknowledge Hal's part in nearly destroying the universe?

I think Johns is trying to erase Hal's culpability, because he's approaching it with the sense that his Hal Jordan, the guy he's in charge of writing would *never* do that. It was an editorial mandate from people trying to shock an audience and can justifiable be ret-conned and forgotten, and we'll all be better off for it.

You mean the Paralax thing was an editorial mandate?
And I don't know if it's best forgotten. It might be because of the whole "Hal is boring" thing you guys mentioned, but his time as Paralax and him being The Spectre looking for redemption was the only period where he was interesting to me.
Of course, I've promised myself that I'll relook at the Johns run with an open mind, so who knows?

Agreed, Green Lantern has been my favorite series for years although I don't generally have enough expendable cash to pursue my habit due to my college student status. The books that showed Hal's fall and Kyle's rise have long been my favorite. It's such a classic story where a great hero gets pushed just a little too far and snaps. It really shows the humanistic quality of a hero when even he is susceptible to hardship and struggle, and the years where kyle rayner was fighting this while hal jordan was lost were by far my favorite. It may be my age, but the way this has been ignored by the main stream audience severely annoys me.

AS the graphic on the show said: http://www.ifanboy.com/amazon
Hal turning evil and killing the Green Lantern Corps was an editorial mandate. "Shaking up" his character by making him act completely out of character was an editorial mandate. Johns fixed all that, rather deftly.

What, no Alan Scott mention? :p Either way, really cool episode. I'm insanely bummed that I won't get back to my pull list for another 2 weeks, meaning I'm missing out on Blackest Night!

What's also funny is indeed that nobody ever used other colours up until Geoff. Which made me think of the shonen manga Katekyo Hitman REBORN! The main characters all get a ring(the Vongola Ring) and each has an attribute regarding the weather, which also makes up for when used in battle. For example, Rain users can weaken weaponry/armour while Sun users can use their Activation attribute to heal faster etc.
Sky
Color: Orange
Characteristic: Harmony
Purpose: "The sky; one that colors and engulfs everything"
Storm
Color: Red
Characteristic: Degeneration
Purpose: "The wind; one that fiercely blows away everything"
Rain
Color: Blue
Characteristic: Tranquility
Purpose: "The rain; one that washes away everything"
Sun
Color: Yellow
Characteristic: Activation
Purpose: "The sun; one that illuminates the sky"
Lightning
Color: Green
Characteristic: Solidification
Purpose: "The lightning; one that harshly strikes everything"
Cloud
Color: Purple
Characteristic: Propagation
Purpose: "The floating cloud; one that cannot be caught and goes its own way"
Mist
Color: Indigo
Characteristic: Construction
Purpose: "The illusion; one that cannot be captured"
Anyway, great show, I know where to start with Green Latern! :D
