" Because -- used it goes too far now. You know I got -- it."

" Yeah you know like dead you know for what you're -- covers countless others -- do it. But it definitely it definitely gets out there."

It's it's very it's very it's has stronger and Tom -- auditors -- yeah -- It's just kind of very basic looking which sort of works to a lot of what's actually happening."

" And."

" I mean basically the whole thing is on his way that that. And -- knows that he isn't. --"

" What figures out that fixes though -- slowly slowly. It's revealed to him that he is the creator created Bagram Orson. Regardless have been written by at some -- her horse appears in the book yeah talking to his creation. Loses. All of the big month we've mentioned this before -- of the big moments when he turns towards towards the reader sees you recognize view -- as a reader and respect each other screen."

" We talked a little bit past march but let. It sounds like he could be hokey. Does not like if it's not it's really like one of the better comic book reading experiences and it's over the three volumes of these buildings for a long time that. -- and you really let yourself -- look to -- time because it's incredibly satisfying. This is one my favorite things he's done which is interesting is is sort of very early in his in his professional career -- but yet let me ask you get where you get him."

" And also he uses -- he's very good to grab -- is very big animal rights is the book I am a man he's for robots and expose a lot of animal issues which which you want to get he writes about in the hate it when it too far -- to -- put people off but you can tell it right."

" Through the whole -- sort of undergoes a change where easy because much more respectful and and anywhere and all right some things and it's too which fits actually perfectly. -- just love this book."

" It's it's a quieter is a classic it's like he deserves conference since. And the man that -- our asylum which is -- but the so the book to Dave -- we're not going to talk about so much right now but later. That then led to do neutral. Doom patrol the book."

" I had. I heard about for a long time and never and it's a very recently when I got the first trade and second one. You can see. Him starting to feel his way around what it is usual is a superhero team ostensibly. Full of."

" Gloriously. Fruits -- somewhere again and there there with the dutrow was created business. 5060 gets all the assistant general -- solid to new creations and and it he picked up reputation nineteen like it was."

" Not. You know you it is not is starting this it was going on he's like he really wanted sort of -- of the differently this. And the world that he creates these sort of characters you've got robot man who is. A robot. The brain of a man like today. Monster girl. African that multiple personality girl's name because she has multiple personalities for personalities. As supporters of and and like it's it's what if -- that's -- but it feels it really really -- And there's all of this vineyard than the negative man thing is half man half woman and have to negative being in. It's just -- you can trillion this. His concepts he started thinking a big big way there are times when this book gets. One's self indulgent he's too much but it. It's sort of lets itself meander."

" Well and that's that's the real that's the route the speaker's remarks were -- that word yet he goes so far out there. You know like."

" You explorers so far that it goes too far and what what works with this book though is that he has characters like that this is or is it zone -- man like and other people who love this -- right. Fundamentals look at it read Jack."

" one of the the villains in this and and his prose is like he just doesn't makes that we speaks doesn't make. Sense it's very flowery very like metaphysical sounding in. But the same time the contrast in his book is that you have a care for like robot man by the way who's the most human everybody in which is credited to contrast that. And so what he does you know like. It's grounded out once that's you can look at it and go -- I -- what's going on he's confused about what's happening so it's okay -- maybe two. There are other books that he's done where where everything is confusing you've got -- center on parole etc. -- You know he took a long time in any given time the freedom. More often and on and run stuff in and give you something."

" Very worthwhile. Your favorite song -- that you're there I do it's one of those -- publicity of the entire new but yet again by a cent of people who. Who swear by radar I love I love the concept of the of the damaged persons superior team and and everybody. Is not well the patrol and they don't really want to be superheroes in the kind of not real flawed in a certain way asks -- The robot -- disease is a team book yes and a lot different characters --"

" They jumped 1995. Holidays hands the reins. Just asleep witches. He preeminent book and these do you want to Justice League -- Justice League would floundering they have -- in the in the late eighties he had to be -- run which led for sixty issues yet. That the bad. They went enough they went to sue your cigarette vendor gives you have you had a team made up of some he has some a big guys have been you have -- black Condo are. And and you had he had. That guy blood some blood win blood went. But -- people that that would just that would that they just have a team now so than they've finally said you know what we go back -- to get the top seven people. In the universe -- of marijuana crop command slash Atlanta and you know John Jones and we're going to dispute -- David networks."

" And that was and -- horses take on it was really that -- the gods of the EC. And so like and and he there was an album to the Greek gods with each one. It was you know. You know for this event it is Mercury and Mercury is slash and -- Atlantis -- it is is opera man its there was an -- each one."

" I would. 1985. Neck deep in marvel. And DC comics and for some reason -- heard from you college. I heard that jail I just started I think that the second issue and it literally to."

" League literally -- plants across. I was really. Are with just the main thing."

" They went to Justice League is this is is most straightforward superhero. Even though he does adventure often explore some of the some. Interesting things -- this book this is the most straight up understand superheroes. Big superheroes."

" It's not difficult to grass there aren't great concepts and really imaginative things. And but it's not it's not out."

" You know you know -- shines through this book is that you can see. He has a love and respect for all his characters and they all have their moments where they're all bad ass out of alternative today I -- the bad -- is coming into being a supporter he's kind of the Everyman character. But he gets his moments flash is everybody. Has a moment where you know he's not caught up and ultimately -- uh oh yeah Kyle's new -- is doing its. Everybody is this capable everybody's strong everybody whatever reason is that the seven got these you anniversary isn't he has a love respect. You can -- yeah."

" It's very deftly -- in character moments between between the numbers that we."

" Really and it's not it doesn't stick out I don't really."

" Nice and we'll and eat any what did you John says you talk about -- respect for the characters. In the very beginning -- can give that a more for this really amazing moment and in you know he's just he knows that it."

" They're like the bin in the first our way in this battle against martians the whole back and alone thing in the but the fire secret that would dismiss it. Once the once it's up to the issue is exactly the most. Is the stuff they did with Tom Green -- hawker narrow and you know Kyle -- of Greenland was friendly and teamed up with and is trying to get justly and there's one issue where he's alone. Witnesses that -- you can definitely important and doing what I -- He was coming up they're gonna tell him it job he does not exactly food and is that -- like NN as those great reverence of the history of the Justice League and yet."

" Yet because this case is that's what drove her to come on that -- Atlanta and the boxes -- and -- noted that and the stuff he did with tomorrow girl -- okay what was amazing was really. It is unlike the city -- yeah the tomorrow hustle and it's holders of reverence for the whole -- TCU in this series and then there. And then by the middle he basically says. The team is going to be used to -- twelve members that it was maintenance humans or. Did you could ask the real within the team because I thought it was going to work right because what was going -- by the time they want you want to talk that's."

" Earnings for an Angel went and get to the third volume this -- the -- as text on the team yet. And it NASA flew with a look at it and they'd met -- he declined to join it at the time he comes back and they. It's funny about this is an also in and I want to thank you change -- and then becomes laughter."

" damages back positive step. Which which isn't about the he's finds Greg uses for -- he he he used Superman better like this committee did it on."

" So absolutely. Well I thought isn't it was that he was -- for awhile and it it was a good long run in companies eventually then mark way to replace them later on but as well into the fifties."

" When you've got in got six six 21 tourist fit me that's extra it's worth -- jail right here yet this is as much -- this is my favorite modern. Actor. Get it's wrong this is but whatever you favorite -- separate room."

" And it's it's just that because while he's doing this -- DC this is pretty straight forward but that didn't stop him from doing a little weird and kind of cultures and yet that's it is accompanied miserables. -- which is long gone and we're dressed where -- But they also did quick book. -- decade out of control of the impala which is actually done with frequently with somebody who will -- on his career. That look at look controversies Charlie countless people -- like the book. It's not in print anymore but if you find it it's still the stuff of legend it's gotten girls."

" That is getting businesses. -- well this is all this yeah it's a little bit about you know not availability makes. Laporte so that's that's important that a lot of stuff for many years DC. We're going to take a quick a quick break after break you of the marvels world is gonna go marvel and it's going to pissed off. --"

" Grow cadaver. How -- from street this program magic tricks. Can't figure out. It places I have your attention. Why Jesus and battery go dead dash com community coupons but I can't the way he did 10% -- entire purchase okay you get to me he'd get whatever you need so apparently there record -- the Internet. He is part of Charleston place house -- you worked for years to move we pretrial. That -- use my texas' night that he over 10000 titles no -- he's doing live Murphy's doing nothing. Okay so do all that and she Xena. Figures next thing you know."

" So long. Yes. Big book -- accident this artist title frequently -- of those -- explodes that's. Yeah -- so how was that gram Parsons. Kind of DC ends besides an exclusive deal marvel and and they hand him the -- scene they had in the -- Kasey -- gets and hey and then they've -- actual assessment -- new accident which because it is it was a mirror image yet knew it. And so what they did was -- immigrant marks is going to work after time after coming up Jalen I was. I think that's going to be an. What did you ever specialists frank quite the was in your pencils and an excellent. And we got these great teaser images of the team. Places that -- angled shot. One of them walking in from the us from the from the site that things are busy enough for -- who is in a frost -- And and so what bases would concede as far as like delicate. What Morrison did on new new excellence he took the the idea of mutants being kind of special. And not many and said well what we made him. More -- a second it takes it 1 evening society had to -- mutations that somebody like these a ball further to a these are and -- to -- the power to turn it. It's things that network people that's secondary powers which is. It's quickly took its way to to re inject -- time. -- characters but that he also said you know whereas it was like the one in the million was -- is that he introduced this overpopulation means so saviors is crawling with me with gutsy new students at college campus and what he did but he also did that which is a visual thing -- of Clinton either they created more mutated visually."

" idea was that not every mutant is looks like a model. Has the ability vet and it won't fight crime and some people mutated to birds to people elected. Chicken lady bird around on yet but he is not an easy. Some people just mutations are conducive to going out stopping mother I was stuck exactly through -- I think it's it is that they were -- and cool. Optional summer so six I think I can fly it. So there are a lot of people who Lowell his run into accidents very polarized it's very -- of the people who look at all the love that I get to -- arguments of people -- on you wrote a very epic. Long piece and when I'm not we practices and let -- but yeah. You you think you're disappointed when it."

" I was disappointed because I felt that the watts I think it's good right there was good stuff there. It wasn't what I wanted to directional want to -- excellent Dylan not in terms of cost -- the president execution but I think. I think he had a lot of really really good ideas that she. Said okay here's this idea and -- flush them over here to visit the market forces entered this idea. And it became very hurried and very out rushed so we -- things like the new mutations we had Santa next we had done. The what would the drug okay. Yeah Clinton made. You know that is the case what you put inquiry whatever and we had zorn who character with the added that the Chinese about it. Was -- here -- meg -- and Heidi it was is one thing after another and ultimately culminated two. What I think was his original goal for the first issue you wrote which was tilting -- I think from the first issue he had planned to one after that remorse and I'll never forget."

" All. A lot of what you thought you get jail gamblers and really doesn't programs draft. And you have to give up he he created. He's got rid of -- gave us Scott Hamilton didn't think much larger -- packet where he did great good looks on -- on Mangini does not. Oh -- it's nice but -- but I also don't like I don't like now with I don't like site accidentally editing your leader and -- everybody loves them through another process for our. The will she's a piece of paper's editorial and a."

" Anyway but -- the end and look at -- the -- it was good source will be there were moments of brilliance like I loved the there was a drug that that ha ha yeah it drug. Those like an inhaler like an -- that made their powers to act up whatever that was right at Xavier is I if you consider. I don't know -- banana banana sentinels were good but it's always about technology does that mean he's yeah. That runs for over all because quite -- I think that's."

" The big thing was that you had suddenly Clark could keep up the schedule -- that he recorded. With his arm was rushed as well I'm and it was it was different then armed Franklin these zones where it was it was about as far as you can differently and it -- and."

" Armstrong -- Phil Jimenez and and and then unfortunately marks bastard that. You know precious Lester it was that bad but when it ended I was like thank god it's over. Thank god it's over you know and because it just couldn't continue -- if you were person who didn't really have a long history in the accident now."

" He's he's he can and it -- better of course was its overall elective. But overall I think there was definitely this definitely some some sort of work but that is correct and an annoyance. Personal -- you guided you college would you call it it'll be that the inflation reading. Apparent -- Lots of people and Angela pick pick up on so I think it is a people it's cool collected there's there's this omnibus. As the president of I do know a lot of people who got who got on the accident from. Netflix has got to get that back credit for it to me and he brought a lot of readers. In front of the problem."

" Is that we always talk about how -- the excellent residences in the mid eighties this didn't fix it and in fact it made things worse. At heart that has to do with his his abruptly in any help the popular and abrupt. His abrupt leaving a marble back to DC kind of cutting off sooner than you thought of but of course if -- that went outside."

" I think I think job. Some writers fit better certainly universe as befits -- these -- is what would he says he's platoon it was interesting because. We're aren't mentioned. Apple did -- Involved yeah jostled -- So that he did 52 which we did also on need to check out with -- but you know 300 dudes like -- but some -- that it would make payments from companies. He did an episode 52 yes. And that that it also Superman which is the first entry into the All-Star he's he's also a lot which is the not continuity. Not -- tomorrow night's version of today's news basically it's. -- house a restaurant or about history or stories this little story. And this is this is also somewhat polarized less and multiple really likeness."

" Not as fast as people would hope -- you know for monthly books the regular release schedule this has been sporadic. Play it's one of those books that people make time for the same way that you response next and I think yeah where -- don't gossip we. And John -- today put out issue and they do it to him into his emotionally lost it you know these and I want to do a."

" He's doing so -- concepts -- and his and his modern. Whacked out possibilities. And it's it's just it's a fantastic financing buckets it's amazing it's almost better than it should be this is a greater issue where he goes to this with the -- But. He he's actually -- rights elaborate debate but they did it give it to businesses -- that is as the wall. There was there was there was it's a good time where form Mark Miller grant Morrison mark wade tried to go Superman. And some reason DC faculty that -- And it and it it never the same overall they were all so I think about the management but it will again that US officials and Justice League and it also -- business."

" Certain that this is going to end up being made any active. Booklets all collected in ones."

" They currently. He's wrapping up his run on Batman which has also been quite controversial because you either debt. The -- had more sort of digital networks in the Pentagon. That you liked it and don't like some that you. -- I've really enjoyed most. There's all of a few issues that aren't that strict but I think everybody likes what he's trying to do was explorer bad -- news -- psyche annals."

" It's it's one of those things that we used to. In the podcast -- saw -- last march we've seen these. It is a rock star I mean he's legislature expenses oh yeah."

" Exactly what it's like when the pitcher and he's he goes all out he doesn't special effects and and you know. You're gonna get some thoughts when you but you're also going to get dance in viewed the awesome Clinton."

" And that is the fifth best -- They'll bit and -- Let's say he he is the heat to medium. Body and -- common rock stars of dimensions of these guys like pants is flat a flat teacher and you know and he's is. Who'd have thought for a Iran is our -- you know really is amazing -- and I think I mean I think he's one of the the best writers we had. Conflict is our -- person because of an imaginative ideas. Big ideas and things that that's litigate the 52. It's everything it's when you -- daylight in the it and -- it is really focused but it was big. Concepts and ideas and things I imagine it you know."

" Like rock of ages yeah the big issues it was kind of not really at all you don't get its act yeah. And also the same time. And incredible grasp on those characters. That's that. I think I think what you gonna do -- I think that's probably open got here is -- is my favorite and best thing he's done. Some because it's so it's so -- it's it's so encompassing. And he he almost rebuilt they obviously look at these news or jail by the Soviets all he understands -- all -- all great moments it's gotten a decent. This deal was a great moment when joins the team and everybody and -- the oracle in the team everybody."

" It put this folded BC they got in deflection. Of -- Even even sandman and -- Yes on that it's there if you get a hold -- and told me he said yeah. You. Ask. So he did he did a whole bunch of great great stuff so we do media mentioned -- but. Russia does a couple of our -- some -- talk about throughout the week that I let him when -- come check at the mideast this week. We we talked with some more personal it's."

" Death itself to come back to see many aren't we street was immediately -- openings in the dark asylum it was yes write about them Gordon -- the -- hope -- telegraph march. -- And -- and rightly give anybody cast spells."

" Awesome so if you have any questions or any grant Morrison stories you can needles -- com hunger is if you've ever heard the one of the -- okay."

" You don't pay your buddy guy you'd call waited for example it was. Registered to sixers are."

" A lot more videos four victory dot com slash envoy LC fun means majority that you just mentioned. Any I -- let some arguments that we program Morrison's all the other concocted a discussion three to accomplish that top section completely -- record. It."

" It's -- these things and yeah you gonna go with --"

" The -- The fifth and above."

" Okay Josh we're gonna talk about a British creator on now the started in British in the comics. There was two -- AD. But it got famous through an American comics its -- more. Confidence. Kevin -- In eagle. We have talked about it yet so what else."

It."

Episode #68 - "Morrison Spotlight" [Discussion]

TRT - 00:28:14

Grant Morrison Week at iFanboy kicks off! With the Final Crisis series looming on the horizon, iFanboy thought it an appropriate time to take a look at the comic book writing career of one of the industry's true giants and one of its most polarizing names: Grant Morrison! With a resume that includes such titles as Animal Man, Doom Patrol, JLA, New X-Men, All Star Superman, and Batman there is a lot to talk about. It's too much for one episode alone!

Great episode. Enjoyable moments by host.
Conor: Gotta love an awkward french pronunciation.
Ron: Surprised I agree on an X-Men something with Ron, though mine lacks any weight whatsoever. Even still, I Despise Cyclops/Emma. I'm in the minority? Don't give a fuck. Despise.
Josh: My heart is happy when it hears a reference from The State.

Nah. Scott & Emma is the more mature, adult relationship. Jean is iconic, but for Scott it is like being stuck with your high school sweetheart all your life. Cute, yet sad in a way.

Both Morrison and Whedon suggest strongly Emma & Scott have an adult relationship. If you go back and re-read that schlock pre-Morrison; Scott & Jean read as though they are teammates rather than lovers. Where there is little doubt Scott & Emma are intimate physically and emotionally. Not just teammates. Especially true in Astonishing, or as I like to call it, New New X-men.

Establishing the emotional component of Scott & Emma's relationship first was utterly genius. Now consider the legacy perception of those two characters. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

I found a great deal on the first New X-men HC ($9 incl ship) on ebay last week and ordered it after finding out it was the precursor to astonishing - which i've read the first HC of and loved. I am now a little apprehensive about it - i thought everyone loved it ::gulp:: - hopefully I will really enjoy it as the only X-Men comic book knowledge i currently hold is astonishing stuff...

If one enjoys comic books that are good, then one will enjoy Morrison's New X-Men.
