" to another upset about fan boy out Ron. And I'm Josh we're here to New York county that's. This year it's a bigger room there's this much more space it's not February's that the outside eats sleeps. It's -- wonder what than non snow does the amazing. We are here to talk to creators -- looks like yours we worked him. I'm here with -- Jack. Hello -- On the I I now you good service securities rise to get it to being a working artist you're an editor. Yeah yeah that's hard working at vertigo. To be around like 9798. And worked there as a as a senator for two years and then. After a while working in the office I. Ido has been drawing at home you know after I got -- back from work and I realize that I was ever going to become you know freelance artist I had to just -- percent after two years that I left and went freelance. On most recently you've been known for doing green -- blackened area was that was that a fumble that looked like it was just a ton of fun sure I mean. Most of the comments I've done it -- been for vertigo over the last you know fires two years so. It's it was fun for muted finally gets to -- superheroes this all out you know and I really like the wage at when he writes and here's the kind of looks at a public. You know slightly askew you know he puts superheroes in weird situations. -- Concentrate them like the characters and humanity. So you knew it was a lot of fun we got to be some you know some kooky stuff. Do you find that like this of the market is more amenable to your style now sort of the cleaner lines I guess its its -- but it's it's also not over the rendered or anything. I don't know I think I think it market -- kind of weird it's hard to know what to make of it I mean because. You know a lot of my stuff has been for you know smaller books. Now that you know people got a chance he would you know they've responded to it but I think you know there's always been in the market for that cleaner look at the same time he looked around. A lot of the guys were really really popular are not that you know at the same time so it's like I think there's a lot of space for a lot of different types of artwork. I'm so so what's -- time next year you do dumb with green arrow for now and what -- we look forward to welcome still going to be on the covers -- there so you'll see me on -- every month at least that way and then. I'm working on a graphic novel for vertigo called green dale. And Dutch -- out late next year. You reading matter on notes being written by just -- art and it's actually. When he project it's based on a concept album by Neil Young they came out like the few years ago. And he's kind of overseeing that the whole creative process he's like you know -- the scripts and looking artwork so. But we're expanding on it and really deepening of the themes and it and and it's really you know political story about you know this young girl who lives. Kind of nature powers and lives in northern California. And electric stuff happens once. A guy may or may not be the double blows in the town. And you know by the end of it its its coming of age story. And did you get notes from Neil Young men I haven't yet we're really early in the process. I'm guessing it will."
" So we came here this morning looking for the lions are typical line shot we confined it couldn't find -- that I heard shouting in the distance and then we turned the corner here. And it's like Ellis island. It's as refugees but it's like it's like a refugee camp of Congo hours some have been here for our eye -- earlier they were they've been here since since a 7:8 am. And it it with cream and people like there in the hands on citizen of the line to get in the to the -- and this actually the room where the convention was last year does that give you an idea of the magnitude of this."
" I am here at Mike Norton. Can you be drawing something right now yes. And it's not good -- got me on film has not yet there's no plausible -- my ability now. You're pulling off a monthly book plus a weekly book sound. Maybe in -- Monthly it's like they only give me a couple of weeks at times like him and that's that you don't -- that it does in this it's given up next week there's a lot of guys get to the one monthly -- Well I mean not gonna record. It's that nothing in the halls of government. I've only done three weeks of ours. So far it's -- Now you you have a style or or use the Q are you just a chameleon like -- one thing that you would say like you were doing like you're creator owned book. That's the well we want to put on the spot that I did I. I'd like to think they do good I don't know exactly what that is right now I mean I am totally. Like I was saying artistically schizophrenic at. I -- something in the next thing it's -- different -- it's it's helped me out so far does because I can. That's it for whoever. At the other day sometimes you like well who am I really. These affinity for. You -- smart but I."
" I held the style is just it's sort of reminiscent of other people -- have come a -- it's kind of like I really. I like a lot of -- old classic kind of stuff like this panel wanted to do. Meet John muted today just because those were kind of concerts better read of that John -- and but I really light. A lot of the slick. Stripped down -- elements like it might Perry -- might -- you know that kind of stuff so I try to win those two and I think that's. Who I am if I was left to myself but. That happens so rarely because a lot of my professional career has been stepping in after somebody else and them saying. We don't want to shocked everybody. So. I just do that."
" I mean there's the line that I see going through everything is that there's a -- a lot of really clean lines not like overly stylized or rendered. Strong storytelling things like that I mean that's the kind of thinking you concentrate on again. Yeah I mean -- Like."
" The structure underneath all the details more than likely be -- I like to have like an action. Rather van. Spent a lot of time processing it and background or something like that and that's what I'm trying to do I think the stuff I'm doing. Green arrow like Mary now which nobody seen yet because I'm on eastern time. There's a lot more like me. Down most of stuff about them before just like I think. A lot of the Adam's stuff I was doing at the end was a lot more like leave that it was John burns for instance. So angry when that comes out I think. It'll be easier to tell but -- it's impossible for me not to be influenced. All the people. And I'm just so fascinated by as far as like artistic or are you having hungry now black canary tons of fun it's a lot Laker. -- In that it's. Nonstop action and nonstop. Funny you know -- sauce and equality and and judge makes like like Oliver queen had to know that much about them honestly before god and this and he's a really funny character and his -- and uses. Dosage within our own and it took about it."
" And asked about the -- one -- in issue seven I think it was. It was you know talking about budget is the one page the pumped up I believe. How much script did you get on that how much did you put into it. It is actually pretty well thought out."
" These that the EU he had beaten down like. He had seen this is the movie and it's networks it's worrisome but at the but that was easy to translate just because he knew that you wanted to do analysts this -- like -- sitting there. -- Journalism my in this needs to linger over an hour you actually do that story monitors. I won't take credit for -- and a leather sheep with. The weather's it was actually I mean there was supposed to be -- seat there but I I've made them."
" Those letters hat's what I'm saying it's you that's what we want it is not speaking enough to have received he's -- super friction so. Her eyes until they didn't catch everything in it. Nice -- now."
" That's the limited partner. Some here at any landing here artist -- native Adam at least we get excellent installed so before we talk -- I didn't give you -- heartfelt thank you for the work you've done on nova. About 1000 all of those I don't think nobody is on my favorite charges of all time and it and it seems that he's been maligned through the years he's never been able they can catch catch up with the audiences he was introduced the seventies and eighties now. But this musician -- series is fantastic."
" coming like you like it was over the heroes like grew up with them assignments -- recess accord a festive -- over. And when your kid and you can get on something from the issue walk you through your neck character Anna and and number I might do it. Exactly the -- like me and then and it's just. -- This silliness so when you got the title of the book and and I've and it's ongoing -- knowing inside so. How do you approach that given the back history and all the kind of stuff did you just sign it forget it like the ninety's and forget the brown costume and well. And to be fair it's like I never read that stuff in the -- it was -- who. I mean if it. You'll be good at some point to get -- written since you've become. Lights and stuff Tampa -- and we just went back to the few mode. Since you read in the notebook cool idea. At least continuity that it would not ignoring it we'll weeping even as we as we don't know hopefully we've we've got about a long long extended run on the but the movie ever -- bank play -- stuff but that we would we wanted to get back to the the essence of the of the -- it. Because that was untrue and -- just 3% that. To the multiple instance does the Texas and -- people need to see that like I wanted when he first came out yet more -- another teen super here I think he has taken Barbara science fiction invented yet yeah yeah I mean then that. To me again. Yet that was great that I'm not going to let. Obviously that's for the heroes yeah I I know it was supposed to make. Cosmic comedy. And so it was like that it's getting out there and and the annihilation then obviously -- put TV network rail. And and we love -- stuff anymore but. And that at least -- against the flighty. -- If it that's just the wonder of keep keeping -- actually get a million of -- ideas that you. Something you just. You'll probably Alice so light and you'll -- given that sucks it right -- did its run but that's a yet it is he's rich pickings minutes. Is that it lets face is falling into the home the hope of and so they're a lot of -- in the know that he's it's -- like deities like marbles green lantern. The leverage your response that yeah well exactly having this. Six I. It's like to end so so excited that -- Spice Girls I mean big target and that and the concept of spice talks with the floor was around before green giant. It's like a -- Doesn't wake green he hasn't got a panel back straight opponent of the goalies running around on the petticoat Iowa and I ice like banks. Green mines and grenades and a -- these fantastic I love what's -- that a moment kindly and with enough suffered another -- get this event irises and it. At around that time again in the seventies. They were repeated several that runs into it face like you to agree that we -- valiantly to US development we did receivers like everything's gonna senate such. It annually. But by the -- of witnesses and I really don't think that they say -- article and -- Yeah I kinda PI agree that it so obviously you're right here right -- that how does that process work Yemeni as a writing I mean do you yeah well I thought basically -- to. Knowing it's annoying when dogs for the work. You know -- I keep down around this this very sad lonely man had been. Is mishandled it I think. Okay say we political crisis we we can do this to get an effort -- over fifteen years and as the blossoms and does -- right I mean nine. We -- on the on the -- The -- ages ago. Get we we we get together and we just. That opens the balance what is -- forwards and it will rough -- the issue. Oddly like. Rough heights breakdowns and everything that thing goes away and writes a script and some final. Baghdad upfield then that senate today who. I've tried not and then that goes up to build roads and retains. That's going to select he didn't like -- in the first place I want to read it but it makes it easy for -- Really that it isn't it it's. -- we loved all of the book we love and a developments is a thank you so much and on and obviously if you like -- have the stuff. I think you're -- the complexities of the actually I'm all guards -- on the side of of that as anybody -- letting guys have eleven -- well again Florida site -- it's set in the cosmic universe but it didn't expand that take is obviously no vote in a single -- that you would you go very specific mission that when it's like about. With a god since we can have lately McCain -- I mean where can you get to see. Rookie retreat so and groups and facing off against -- enhance those pages are you going to be stuck tapping and I think the old cars the galaxy emulate and a demo definitely client -- then I mean these are off that coming. The star whom he's probably going to be around that having yet what we what we've -- obviously we know kind of re doing the audience in that format. We've weak point it's really tight in the night. They all guardians of the got backstage joke the gutsy gutsy but it would be sitting. Having been given the a problem legacies. -- it's -- The simplest going to visit the legacy there evidently -- and and we want to be respectful to that's of the people who read that in the past and and and again hopefully we'll go back to -- that stuff. They've you know we didn't."
" A feature stories less although the radiant. So the javits center where the convention is is a big place in the New York Times -- taking over all of it at the same time as the New York comic on the club industry east Expos going on. I don't want to go for the easy joke here. But I'm going to -- if there were ever to populations people who had nothing to do with one another. That the fitness club industry you know equipment of the that's an elliptical but really nice what is that it's the."
" There's this there are other -- Eisenberg nominates dealt. I'd question how I feel like it's very aspect. I don't know I've never been. Indian reservation but I feel like it is is it is that there could mean. I hope so to some extent you know it's them it is still -- crime books and it's not going to be a documentary. Again I mean hopefully this undated. Seems relevancy socially relevant and it really strikes -- would -- used to do front research process work but let's go. You know just like with the other side is a lot of Reading a lot of talk and people. I can afford you've grown up reservation and here it is just seem to me so -- it will put out very sensitive it felt like. Quite well thanks but no. I wrote a Vietnam -- book and I've never been to Vietnam either of so. How hollow to give up planned upward. Six and -- open -- There's a definite anything minded -- for all these characters but in terms of specific issue number now I haven't thrown anything out there just as long as we're having fun as long as the stories -- coming. -- how's the how's U how's the reaction loving the rest of the very strong it was a surprisingly we shot but I. Was you have ahead and had no idea what to expect this is still totally view in the -- started you know but it's really the book that's that's given me comic carriers. That look at -- everything I've done with -- marble. I've seen. One thing's for sure with just look at it a lot of creators. The that the threat and it's great to talk about quality. I was not surprised you as a writer you of these guys -- they made the industry yeah that was accused the real. I'm still painfully -- meet those guys have let him know your word game and enjoy it's it just makes you know deviant. So how's the -- of bureaucracy where's where's -- from. Here's Serbian but he lives in Spain. To how to communicate. What -- through emails constantly. We talked on the phone occasionally. It's it's amazing this is really good and -- super passionate about what he does always as great ideas. How much coverage of and look about him. A lot a lot of a lot of collaborations a lot of given today. You know sometimes they'll throw scene out there what to get back it's like it's what I wrote but. It's great you know and -- that's all they give it take its what makes a comic so excited. I would describe people don't read the book values that make it about horse. A bad ass. What gunshots. You know this again guy grew up on this reservation who did everything he could to get away from it. -- been dragged back for reasons beyond his control. These rebel against it rebelling against is is ancestry and everything. And you know. Really his internal struggle to spend the main the main story of the book. There was a story you look at felonies would have been if the books out on this this is not a crime -- it was there was there anything about backwards when it. What -- yet to -- that struggle with his cultural identity and then. And really coming -- appreciate. You know where he was from and who he is much of the story -- at the curb the crime and activists there's the good news -- yet I mean that's the main arc of the story is that it's his journey. Is now that -- true good time but they're still does which says. But true true good guy and a bad -- out. And I agree that yet I hope it's all I -- I think they're guys. Do good things to do bad things. Characters surveillance -- one day in heroes -- the other. Again have to figure out for yourself if if you use with a hero is if there is. Most delicious fun okay."
" Hey so we got back from New -- Great convention. In the back just work and it's and footage are together here he is why needed it. I didn't go. Why did my duty in this you been here when there's another intern and her. Could somebody -- Italian cabinet list are Paris constantly worries -- considered overweight and it hasn't -- and you pick what you want it and you know dosage used only feeds him who reviews. That's obvious response."
" I'm here -- Neal Adams."
" And tonight I would call you allegedly had not done working yet obviously all of not to work is that what happens legends like become legend that they stopped working."
" But clearly the work is legendary. Let's let me ask you champion a lot of creator rights and they in an artist getting their pages back are you are you satisfied with the with the way things are looking today."
" I won. It's all about it. All the artists here so their own agents that you can look on that with a bit of -- I guess. When we were doing well we have in the fight. To get her artwork returned took -- seven years to get it done. There were artists who had -- reluctant to support. The idea that the artwork should get back to the artist because they felt. It would be some kind of offense to the publishers. I didn't quite understand why they were thinking that way because of course having artwork return Kosovo was nothing. And it was the right thing to do but there was still afraid. And I understood that that's why I really didn't drag too many people into it. When those artists got their artwork back. The following year. They doubled their income. They didn't -- 10% of their income they doubled their income. Because they could sell their artwork or if they chose to not so. Not too many of them came to me and said the that was a great idea. Because. In the end nobody likes to admit. That. Maybe they were afraid. And I don't go around looking for. When you do something because it's the right thing to do you do it for the sake of and so. I'm not looking for people to come around and say. Boy am glad you did that. But when I walk around and I see -- able to sell their stuff for. The same price or double or triple. What they get from the comic book companies. I do feel little scenes in there that's it's it's pretty. I think that we have you."
" To -- for the modern bat man and I actually -- thank you for all the fans what he's on a little about what it was like to go from certain that they can't be bad -- of that -- More motto I guess more adult -- we see today."
" Well. I would have to say that the more adult Batman that we see today was the original Batman. And we had that lovely television show and Adam West and Burt ward and all those old actors who have played the various characters. And what happened was that DC comics decided that that was the way to go. And so they did for comic books were kind of like that he would have Batman and Robin walking down the street. In their long underwear. And kids would walk by -- their mommies and the kids didn't go mommy mommy that man walking by and his -- long underwear in the daytime. So. While I was at DC I was doing other characters like dead man inspector and even remember what I was doing at the time so I went to Julie Schwartz -- office. And -- said Julie. I'd like to -- Batman story. Julie said that the fox out of my office. -- don't know really I really like to event answers to get the fun -- my office the so I came in the next day and I said Julie when I said yesterday. That serious I would really like to do. He said closed the door after you. You know. So I went down the hall. It's a very Bolton boss office and did a book called brave and bold. Brave and -- at bat and not what man bad man. Walkman whatever was that -- team book called. And I said to very very I'd love to do some brave and bolts person today anytime no problem. He knew it got. So wasted you want to change the strips and I said no no I just want to. Budget a little bit like. If the scene takes place in the daytime I'd rather take place at night fat man walks in the door rather have balked at a window little things like that. It fine. After about three months. Have to imagine. Write a movie -- Walked into DC comics. And the lighting and it's ten minutes dim the lights in the hallway. Out of the end."
" all this Julie Schwartz and there's a spotlight on."
" Long shadows -- on this basis. An All-Star. And all the pictures are reflecting Julie Schwartz who is towards town hall. And he's holding a bunch of letters. And he says. Adams."
" Why all these letters say the only bat and it DC. And brave and bold."
" Little indication. -- all the way -- Julian -- Why do you think you know what back and should be in -- rest of us don't. As it Julie. It's not just me who knows what I've mentioned David every kid in America. Knows what that. And it's not like I have the TV show. Said you're drawing bat and now. -- okay had to quit doing brave and bold. And I did Batman. So we changed that it unfortunately the first three movies -- kind of followed that TV show. In a way I mean they tried to be darker but you know. Keaton has -- it's not exactly. And they do line I would have to say a lot of people are saying that's in the eleventh that. And I don't think that that's the wrong thing to say. And we waited a long time. But now we have that you were injured Conyers to issue or an advertising primarily now -- advertising we do. I do I do many things if you go to my site continuity site. That'd -- that convert. You'll find that we do amusement park ride design. States design. And automatic story boards Thomas finished commercials. Graphic civil sorts. It's an art studio. And it makes a very good living. And makes more than I could possibly make it comics. But I still love comics that I still have to do come and ask you get that. The last twenty years. To be perfectly honest I first of -- I stopped working with DC and marvel I started. To do to work for Pacific comics and and I started to publish ourselves so we had our own comic book publishing company and that we introduced a bunch of care. When the crash came and almost -- kind of deserted the market. And you don't remember I was in -- I remember ever -- to -- that was pretty disaster. Anyway so. I kind of got out I was like -- what do I do it that it's too dangerous. And other people went bankrupt. And he was really -- I backed off. I kind of did things here and there. Had done some alternate covers for both marvel and DC comics they keep selling them for twenty and ten dollars apiece. It is that this alternate cover constant. Not exactly fair but nobody seems to be complaining so very. And a bunch of coverage that's nice Superman cover -- bat and -- you know it's I'm having fun. But. -- family that cut the Addams Family Tenet decided. We edit. Jumped and I haven't that we published. Haven't had anything fresh. And what's happened is the industry sort of caught up to what I was doing 25 years ago. You know the paper's better -- is better -- using computer coloring. The artist that is not a lot of really good artists. Competition is better. So I thought -- Competitions that Iraq's satellite back. Why don't I jump back him. On doing a series. -- Characters. I caped character we're DC. Six graphic novels. Of the caped crusader wears a cape and a towel. And I can't tell you is. Because DC wants to announce it themselves. I'm on my second graphic novel moving so my third. I think but the third gets done and a month or two they'll be announcing what it is don't be surprised if it's. Could have been okay."
" But you're back at Donner. One of DC's new estimates authors."
" it was the title of the book and it's called burnout and actually yours say poppy. It is at a preview -- to regain got Jessica Adams. -- a long way out as sadness and like every day is sticking so -- have you read this is your first comic right. Yes there's not a novel I I'm a novelist and another -- as well here's."
" Stories it's. So how is the the process of writing and all different and running graphic novel and having another collaborator bomb an artist than."
" It was out of as a hard jealous Loria. It was surprisingly a lot more easy and -- because I -- an amazing illustrator and so. To see my ideas it is -- It was interesting because anticipated a lot of what was going on my. Side on the aids. As a novelist you have -- news explain themes and characters and browse and novel the Nazis acting thing you know maybe -- and its."
" And tinted up so it was a really -- when he first thinking pages indices like these characters -- invited they they look like what you imagine your head of the technique -- that's --"
" OC right partners hustled artist he's got. I'm wearing a -- or something -- details. But the actual structure their faces. For some. So and -- reason emails anticipated so visible symbiotic thing all right so I heard that angered the plot of the book is a little -- day yes I'm on its the short answer when he was -- it's about terrorism and -- incest. What's -- in minutes and and it's aimed at young adults -- it. I also think that the teens in the -- is says that he could carry. All. That -- that a letter I have to exactly. Apple's these issues and serious act. Excellent. Good comes legitimately have learned."
" Newest artist from all Michael -- minutes ago you're sort of all of these universities this last year you -- tee times nightly countdown and cement -- amount -- husband on his."
" Didn't really really good really really busy exhausting at certain points especially -- account. Things have been really good. -- count -- you -- very short time but yeah I had two and a half weeks in this morning pages which is even for me is sort of like the land speed record. Of getting stuff done but I think -- belittle you got a good reputation for being -- on time to call it work that something -- always try to uphold well you know I started out editorial so I'm always aware of deadlines and everything that's involved that because on the pence lower. You know everybody else is waiting for me to get stuff done in the bonds lower by got to take a break something that needs somebody. Along analyze that getting paid so I always keep that in mind -- work project. And it paid his dues out what's your rate what I mean it's. On an average about a page a day by it when I push its two pages. You didn't look like if you -- a lot of different characters is that harder to and -- as a -- drugs don't for people who really it's more about because I'm very much about characterization of body language so I try to make everybody as individuals possible is easy to do sort of cookie cutter figures. But if you lines. To have a real -- like. Looked. You know you want to meet everybody kind -- look it's individual actors in the digital as possible so with a booklet teen titans. You know you want Robin -- much money at it double closer. One -- certain level cockiness to grab injured so so. So I mean those of the things that I really like doing -- room working on the project and with the team -- there's just more opportune do. They started its early to advocate artists who have always a caller I have a transition it actually was all is Michael -- is even when I was doing editorial it it was always with that I'd eventually drawing comics full time. And I just sort of got that point after awhile because -- was not only do you like comics editorial for independence but I was working -- job. Doing marketing and and we're in advertising agency at one point. It. And it's my revelation we're going freelance what is basically a gently on. And I decided there is no such thing as job security I'm just gonna freelance screw it. And had been relayed to him about being kicked out the best of it but it's regarded. It's well who's who's going editorial UA give it to for the Dorsey diversity come up on artists. You know what it just sort of stumbled into it to be honest on. It is. It wasn't something -- was that -- I'm going to work editorial -- this weekend because that's not usually how it works usually even -- staff at a company. If you're doing projects at a company I don't know it may have changed since then but it you're doing projects on the company and you're on step they take a little bit yet. And I know a lot of lot of guys in the past these are right for DC who would be very very annoyed by that idea. It was it was never it was never conscious decision I just wanted to work in -- And and and at that point ways especially I was a lot younger my artwork was quite as strong rises now. And is always towards that goal of learning everything they could possibly learned. As far as not just on the artistic -- editorials over the -- suction side as well. So you've you've dropped a lot of connect across these universe that's Lester you favorite somebody read George Johnson drew him to fortune would you that the assignment -- I really got to -- the Jokester originally did that was just like as far as like one -- projects though that with a lot of like. And because they got the play with so many differently images of the joker over the years and -- adapt that to the ways work. That made it even better and they that's still stands right now it's like when the best stories that probably done. Last year's NATO superintendent -- tell everybody what what what the books about what what it was look for it's basically an old school crisis on earth non crossovers to jail in mini series. -- they go over there to be changing universe accidentally. To try and stop the -- psychic we powered Superman and fail miserably. Yeah but and more things happening and edited twelve issued -- you lobsters well if you -- series twelve issues and doing the seventy page -- story which entered into being by Robin -- caller. By Tom Regan and the the back of stories are all written by Iran mars being that's -- for Sar. Now that's."
" She's. He's the yeah -- here really there. Who weren't in -- okay cart I have -- my name and get my title. Do you have that no and it heated. -- You know battery go to comedy -- in Iraq the boy. I gave him accidentally -- urges it to me that you may argue whatever he survive the end carved through news in the interim it. Just washed up. And just easy it is certain cases says intern. Now. What you can do that she's -- when pictured her shirt. I mean I I would recommend he do that actually. I'm ready to act work."
" I'm here at the mighty Geoff Johns of DC comics -- We finally got tracked down south. So one of the best surprises in commentary in the past years been just decided America think. Like honestly that book came out of nowhere for me and it was it's just been amazing of course is that to cram any more characters in there I'm hoping to grab. I wanna like -- leads in the region and a so. And we actually have like one more character covenant but a couple of going out was not going to make it out. So we'll see in the next few months ago but -- takes. Sorry you just haven't -- last night. Pulling in a lot of the buildings in the legacies like -- example our men and liberty bell are my two favorite pairings and I like you get one panel -- issue and I just want orbits with a great thing about -- the rebuilt it would dale Eagles in debt since investors like -- They're out on eternal honeymoon so they're always like really close -- each other that you beat you good -- they're leaning on each other area in Nassau every character has a real strong personality that. I think you can get him one and -- yeah it is nice that's said they'll be much more exploration of of a lot of guys Sam Mendes -- out of focus in the coming year. Power grow get a lot of focus in the coming years Leo. It's a imagine what -- legion but Leo from justices -- to do just coming up this Iran are with legion you know how he traveled its epic there was a I don't. -- savings grant does. So but how much of a trip it is edited to be kind of steer in the boat which -- and a Superman a -- that's like replicate -- one might favor writers you inspiration none of this works since. By arming culminates in all those books and tend to be partnered up with -- on Superman and we've just -- Two or three days outlining -- 2010 so we have our our whole story -- All those stories and big stories come together to form one huge. When you've got a big venture for Superman who. And I'm really sad about it it is that it was a really surprising because because I am I kind of what's -- been on the sidelines and it seems every couple years we hear -- Texas Superman is going to be good that he be fixed we just we just let Doug good stories and and James and I all about. We want these Youkilis you have to read you want to read. They're fun to read. And down. And hopefully we'll do it as a goal. -- so then on but all this talk about event books always done things deep. Best event probably Leicester was this national -- war and what you do agree -- now I mean the colored rings like it seems so simple. And on I don't know why hasn't happened yet like where did you come up like patted him over that. I don't know. I have no idea but it's. I'm -- you all of -- got -- and obviously it's. I'm glad people like the book you know this it's semester gore was gonna just out there -- people grabbed onto and it's by steered. Reader reaction that it's become but it hasn't and it but it is so multifaceted in the fact that introducing the different emotions of the different colors in the different factions of the and I like my nephew saw that spread and it was like we're all these callers and I said while they all represent as it. Reds angered is that all of what's that has the capacity. That's hope and everything you've really got into it and I could see this is why it. It even the kid does does what Greenwood sees me then like honestly like what Primakov value and -- defendant is David -- But if you're really angry and upset whenever as the rhetoric comes and takes governments -- violent takeover takes you grabs you. But the ideas like you know -- What emotional symbolizing what -- We'll juicy that's a that's always going to speculate that's very little in the DC universe gets a ring like what's no that's that's that the -- stuff that makes it. Fine -- and that's what I like to do like. -- trailers -- have been put in my books I just want to make the comments a bigger experience they've -- twenty pages a month yeah and that's what it is and it's really Emerson and it's like -- something like collects an -- role now and he's -- we we're talking he's almost like. Ben -- and lost let the charity like Houston who has just planting season watching it all go and -- was going to come back is -- that at some point. Either go bust out some robust about our. Or -- on death row and had died at -- probably the most unlikely it was an area but he. It was a big girls secret origin and and reads the red lanterns because all that rates from the red lanterns it directed at the Grey's Anatomy ever there's -- It some thought so mom I gotta say must be pretty good to be Geoff Johns is this. It's that as fun I play like me where I am a rookie of the -- they were quick to people were equipped that's what makes it fun and elaborates makes it fun being here like -- and but it's like a second San Diego now. And the reaction like in the DC panel today yeah. He could feel like to know. It's just think about these universities the thing -- light and did acknowledge is that. We gotta learn from what works what doesn't work and make it better. Second mistakes admit that things that don't work but look at how -- we ratchet everything up that's about trying to have my own writing -- track of these universe is trying to do. And I think we're going to be better -- wear it."
" All the the -- entered the New York comic con. Is that surprising about hang out at the I would got envoy crew he didn't expect. They don't like each other alive as on the -- a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes troop. And bickering have you have you found it to be tough itself it's rough it's through the arduous it's sort of like community service -- it's rough stuff. It's sort of like -- tonight there's been in a prison in Memphis. But yeah it's you know have you have you ever had a job this demanding this taxing. No I don't think there is a line. -- My advice to you guys out there becoming to a convention you want to set up a slip and slide covered in gold bond powder or cream. And then as you get out of bed in the morning just right across all of rediscover yourself. And you begin to go for the convention. Words of wisdom from a man but experience."
" I'm here -- Marc Guggenheim. Writer of many comics are just going over them you've got. Maybe Spiderman amazing Spiderman young X-Men. Resurrection at a press and nowhere man and it urging comics senior executive -- television show. I am and I I've forgotten in Marvel Comics presents we're still running a series. A serial. Called vanguard which -- it just because I've finished up all the script so what's the best scripts are you okay you hold not part of I I honestly barely. Barely it's and it's thing. I very lucky -- that I does this sound totally tried but I'm fuel the by the love of the game like that's what keeps me going. I will say that like when the writers strike hit and I stopped. Working on the show it's like you go from. We're he has organized attitude no where -- whatsoever. I I realized wow I'd really have been doing I don't know I've been doing it's like. It's like being NA out a cold pool and a real example that was actually get out. That's when it back is that the let me ask you this servers have amazing Spiderman it's more unique it is a few little more like -- in -- TD writers' room. It does it's like it's like we're -- room where I'm not charged today god that's like north of both -- getting it's active it's very much like TV -- room because world. Like world obviously breaking news story but we all get along well like the way a good writing staff does for a TV show. And the weekly case. Just the constant need for Scripps is very reminiscent felt. You find yourself pacing the weekly books differently than you would say the monthly books there is that pretty much wear thin line it's working the exact same way actually because I'm not big believer in wolf. I don't like -- decompression right I'm all about compression so. I'm trying to act much orient bank and -- if you regardless of whether comes -- monthly or weekly. It's just that the big challenges. You think you've got this big question of scraps and then a month goes by you don't have a vision anymore days they hit the stands right so it it. It changes your writing pace not arrogantly but just your output. So you you've worked on really big characters recently did wolverines got Spiderman is that intimidating -- is that delegates that natural fit like you know them really well. Well I think first and foremost it's lucky and I just feel really really fortunate on. I'll save that. Spiderman was super intimidating like that first art took a lot longer for -- right the most like I'll -- work. But once by the end I really sort of felt the groove and I always felt like -- I had claimants boys but I was sort of like intimidated by. The way to the character and and I -- like yesterday it my group with my second arc and on I feel like I'll look at could do this forever now. I'm not comfortable I've I've worked past -- the -- in and a sort of a sea of X-Men books out there. What is it -- that you can bring that table with a young acts manners like what the defense in the fortunate that. Well I think what that fans can look forward to is the unexpected it is a book where I'm trying to building. A big surprise every issue. Where I'm laying in seats in him you issue one an issue to that you won't see come to fruition until issued twelve or beyond. So that is what -- should be a lot of unexpected stop it should be -- a lot advance planning. Going on like I'm doing things that I know I'm not gonna pay off part -- the years. So that's a lot of fun. And also just this is where you get they you know no pun intended the young X man. You know all the other X-Men there there you know they're older they're more mature them or experience. These guys are very wrong. Gary and experience and as a result of the -- star will be placed at position where they don't trust anybody else they don't trust other -- so in addition to. The hole on. You thanks being a young mutant they also now have to base the yanks that being young -- in not being able mean on the older games for advice experience. And and less they give all of that time for the marvel books I want to ask mayor Leone ongoing series they do a lot of ongoing series. No -- it at its very specialty is one thing that we're announcing at the convention. Is they also don't do a lot of color looks at night they don't do any color books resurrect this could be one of the first. We're going to -- bought the book -- volume two. It'll -- and Holler we're gonna go back and recall in the first six issues in a trade paperback. Reduced annual we're doing a lot of cool stuff at its present it to you don't know but the book is. It's it's very simple it's it's one the only high concept idea that never act which is it war of the worlds that day the -- to sell its Independence Day. Those movies and and boom resurrection begins yelling -- left the planet we picked the law. What now. -- we rebuild the world who's in charge. Everyone's fighting with each other it's a real sort of disturbing and wrong. Scary kind of -- but it's so much money that's there's more story. It -- on that that I could ever tell and a million issues. Bernie what's -- is cherry picking the best stories that -- big ones and you know will be shipping via the we'll be seeing other countries and will be I -- an incredibly huge cast. It's it's just a lot of on."

" Hingis who could go thing's going to be incest for people have got to take thing makes the count to -- we -- that we should shoot. " So this was going to be an error of the comic book. -- a rock star. In your name's Lois -- never comes up and here we see you at the convention your being led around by staff securities that that that's something that's strange to be sort of in this place where you're."
" What was. Us again and bent it. No document of bonds and the coach told La scoop on some for me it was always a but he can form -- days ago. " Are -- over it has since that's right. Not everybody so you."
" You killed them grapples with the just for the you don't notice -- comic book legal defense fund they helped creators need -- above legal services in Hollywood story. Anybody needs help there are fantastic organization is. Work and its -- and they always hear the kind -- they've got a lot of exclusively as a sign that record something they sell to delta rebels thought that you entered a pledge grab it and the unthinkable things. Definitely winning do you want him. You want to win Iowa and -- laconic look -- look over the line. Wow that is a Michael through -- to have them.
Oddly like. It's great you know and -- that's all they give it take its what makes a comic so excited. I would describe people don't read the book values that make it about horse. A bad ass. What gunshots. " Hey so we got back from New -- Great convention. In the back just work and it's and footage are together here he is why needed it. I didn't go.
" We're here with Graham Morrison. You just spent the last. You -- so writing Batman. How would you describe his placement users. Pace and so mean everywhere in the world was to prominence he's one that the the mean to use it to you he who heeded -- since the opposite month essentially. And since Monday wonder and the group's Africa. So also this is now the time to to change it up to rid of them or whatever it is coming happening. Much -- just like to move the studio has a look where I was didn't recover it by through apartments -- encode the PC idea of a margin of the thing just it to come to one guy in space a fifteen years and it's oh well life when you think of -- So the -- most of these key rulings to we will see what new things we could do and because -- Italy's most of these there's a ton of stuff iPhone -- a combined to the solo. Dealt with what that would mean someone's view late. There was going back to some of the demon and -- from happening. It was good -- things that -- would be anything but through fifties to sixty stories -- open dies or in the can we use heaped upon my stuff. I want the typing it would've been to Canada and the -- and -- year war and mortal fear Obama conceded we -- time he's in the we have this stuff. And departments can -- so. Episode #67 - "New York 2008" [Discussion]
TRT - 00:58:29
The New York Comic Con is in iFanboy's home town, and it's packed with creators, talent and fun. It's a big show about a big show.
You want big names? How about Grant Morrison (Final Crisis, Batman), Geoff Johns (Action Comics, Green Lantern, Justice Society of America), and the legendary Neal Adams?
You want hot up and comers? Try Jason Aaron (Scalped, Wolverine, Ghost Rider), Marc Guggenheim (Amazing Spider-Man, Resurrection, Young X-Men), Andy Lanning (Nova, Annihilation Conquest), and Rebecca Donner (Burnout).
You want awesome artists? Cliff Chiang (Green Arrow & Black Canary), Mike Norton (Green Arrow & Black Canary, All New Atom), and Jamal Igle (Teen Titans, Tangent Superman) are right here.
These are the folks behind the great characters like Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Green Lantern, Wolverine, Nova the Human Rocket, and others. If you couldn't make it to the show, this is the next best thing. Just bring your own funnel cake.

It was Saturday and we'd finally tracked down Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns. They see the camera and, at first, they share a look of "Oh, not another interview." Then they see the ID tags. Geoff looks at Conor. "Is this the episode with the new intern?" Grant taps his shoulder and points to me. "Listen," says Grant, "I'm going to take a quick jog back to the hotel. I should be wearing a suit for this."
Or at least that's what it says in my diary.

I love Neal Adams' artwork, but the man's disposition totally puts me off. Everytime I hear him speak it just rubs me the wrong way. Bit of smugness to the guy. Still phenomenal artist. Guess that's all that matters at the end of the day.

True, true. I really can't argue with that point. As I said, Adams' work is without question, phenomenal.

I have to say, I love his work too and I absolutely love his demanor, disposition and attitude - I could see how it could rub some the wrong way, but if you ask me, he's the man...

What a fantastic episode. I've watched a lot of video coverage of the NYCC and it doesn't come close to this. every interview had substance and you talked to some guys I had never seen interviewed. Sooo much better than the stuff at other sites that concentrated on movies. (Somehow if you guys were interviewing Mike Mignola I doubt you'd start off with "So tell us about the new movie.")
Pol, great job... what? No booth babe posing? I thought that was in the job description. Neal Adams and Ron - separated by birth and thirty years? And of course the whole thing done in beautiful HD.
It seems like being in your home town helped the energy. Is that a matter of sleeping in your own beds or learning the party lessons of Wondercon. Even Josh's voice held out, just a little scratchy for the breaking of the slab. (BTW, thank you for that.)
Outstanding work. Don't let the volume of compliments make you think they're any less sincere.

He takes a long time to get a point out. And yeah, I don't really like his demeanor. Oh well. Geniuses always have the get out of jail free card.
