" That's -- 1998. Took side engine on Johnny or and their students the and I. 88 -- on the TV. Tomorrow night and marvelous -- are so marvelous mosaic impression that was done outside of the marvel offices proper and silent on his studio. And we've lost titles like daredevil. Daredevil. That was being human and humans century -- yes it yes but under the first wave of Spiderman. Spirals -- yeah not enough firstly the person in the press and look for books but punishes authored poster. So what this concept was is that -- rights and came on board. And -- and Michael goal in the -- and -- to write a tale of -- and because apparently the publisher and died. And -- and some look at it was big resurrected him as any demon but the Specter. And less about four issues and show it was funny -- redeeming killing me -- Yeah had wings. -- one point I think -- he had seen it you -- and he had a little thing was handed -- signal that. -- Talk about the mystery character and yes that was yes it's funny how we talk about the success tomorrow lives in and dishonest of the drop in black panther is black panther yes yeah. You have shown that someday but."

" Because it's -- bad blood. There was those and there's been a lot of other of the -- Scott Ford little bit I think one of the mini. Isn't nonstick not a in my and I think that -- okay but then you can ask your 2000 they say. There's these two guys we know we're doing this -- over vertigo. Other dominant now so Garth Ennis and Steve don't mind you do that punished for a little while. And and in it in the first issue on one of the pages per minute and look to. It said yes and that -- you know whenever. So forget all about that stuff and I just don't race then learned -- stories -- welcome back frank was twelve issue mini Mac -- Frank Cassell takes on the local mob family in -- support to note that. This is a marvel over a group of people say that -- doesn't do yes -- it would have been completely limited to act yeah yeah and it was awesome. So this was in this year and I told this was like the best yeah. Television area."

" It Garth Ennis is take an end this is kind of the beginning all of this Garth Ennis epic Ronald punishment really has been done for you know from almost ten years now. But Steve Dillon this is where I'd like -- preacher like it is right thumb on the scene on it and and it had that wacky this crazy. Black humor in Venice is. On for a very much the Pritchard -- yeah Russert on -- at Bagram he's had outrun detective so quickly caught and gets a break it was great yeah Albert packer. And this was so wildly successful at this. Led to an unknown series the last of the signatures and and it's Dylan did most of that rob."

" I'm famous all red we already television mini right yes and we already at least part of awaits him in -- and -- You're always. That some I -- milk -- the repetitive it digs it did. And I don't -- I was real lot Pacman -- a lot of knew that that was it did the year were. We -- really by a lot from like in season and while storm -- we don't really don't -- right and and I think -- spokesman repetitive like it was."

" It was a funny is that in particular patent and I think that -- the same line uses then what happened was that delectable whoever's. And and -- to -- It's great he's ever going to -- this ignorance and this is just passed out to stick shift. It is involved and an interest for its its estimate. But so he's done is the book and in 2005 and -- Richards of comic book artists yes. Listen Dylan is markets and into it and abundant independents and -- And what does move allows us to do is to drop and humor aspect that because Dylan is crazy is draws some cards Sunni. You know I'm in you know ads and -- it and -- it's not real you know it's not."

" Pretty yeah. Area and the author of the agreement of its. It's very serious cartooning this it's not like because she was asked this can be glad that I'm doing and so it's hard for me it's hard to assess."

" But if violence is like almost fun so the move into the next title what's allowed an astute Kirk's have lots of violence and really start telling realistic stories. What do -- do it to do its best to do it is that the stories became less about -- the mafia and and and -- actually physically and taken out of marvel continuity."

" Format books are constantly so you you can say you can do whatever you want that he -- he. If you wanted to -- you don't person that's what's customer in the whole world on the need to do whatever you want."

" It's a little stories that had a lot to do politics and specs in an ex KGB IRA was involved sexual slavery was long pot and -- IRA gotten the whole -- and how tight -- and welcomes your mom in the west side -- a house kitchen."

" I think what you got a lot of publishers how many times can fight the mob. That's right at -- that's why I've got in trouble why didn't it -- I don't know but it certainly go to -- slightly. So you go to Macs now you can do international stories you can. You can -- because you know additional stuff you know because right about. Irate about. International mob to do -- every -- not to worry about it. You can deal with the fact that. The publisher. Originally with a Vietnam vet."

" Let's just say it would have wasn't marble palaces on the Nam Andy crossover data actually -- the -- Nam was saying okay punishment Vietnam War but in the marvel universe number in the ages and in the -- justices he fought the gulf war. Like just -- but exactly and a lot of partial purest didn't like that because of his involvement in Vietnam -- mosquitoes."

" Thank you very tedious to two different war ever kind of ward of -- sort of psychological issues with the defense that the whole different feeling to Vietnam. At least coming out of that and yet we have both so it's important -- in."

" Aniston Aniston Arabs and she doesn't read -- next title minis polish born. Which was a economy origin story. Yeah kind of I mean it like -- first born as it basically in the middle of it. Something inside francs -- talking to elements like white type on black background you know like I'm here you know let me out let me -- We'll figure it sang at the -- Vietnam and didn't come out total bet he's always been basically -- what is machine. It's it's a forward base a fire base here in the -- department -- therefore fire base and it's. It's near the pullout but everybody's forgotten soldiers have been supplied. It's Fulham four cups and everything and frank is sold only Russell everybody else that is getting high and -- around -- anything. And frank is just. He's going to mean and and and he feels he's telling bad guys a lot well -- see he's an Indianapolis and yes. It's just still encourages you -- a bundle in the universe bubble sorts jungles of Vietnam. And then it discipline he kills. Sort of indirectly kills general. And then he starts thinking about -- like people who are. That. But I certainly the statement necessarily -- sides though aren't -- traumatic but -- Roberts is it's. Pretty realistic you're not overly gory because it's MacBook -- and it's sort of it's just establishes the -- character who. Needs to do this he needs to kill people about -- serial killer and Heidi is that -- Yes so -- reestablish."

" Is at least in this next universe of the country was in Vietnam. And which are great departure now in his fifties or sixties and out in the max's tennis is doing its. It's from -- that he's been vigilant for thirty years and he's all he's getting on in years old -- they still thought -- them. And -- and anybody Brenda since there are some people who love on this ears like a lot and the -- operating. I forget where an important because of his character and face and the classic mess that would have --"

" That's -- your stuff written guidance is like every time this. So here. Did an excellent at all yeah. I want to read it I feel like I would graduate max Moore and than the other yeah you -- and but then he marvel also did was to kind of bring back warm welcome back that."

" Even though Ennis is taking the punish him put him in the next title he still exists in the market. Ers and he croc back up in civil war and until that -- came back it's kind of words in -- Now we can actually he's ten and that tests on off into parse words all nationalities and drifting and both were -- journalism -- Numerous properly and when he's not you know an anti Vietnam no let's origin is there. But and max is taking lessons go outside and his partial work at all has apparently been a success and -- him into it now -- are writing in and now on Africa and Africa -- and there were co writing an ugly Berkman has taken over. -- And it's it's the publisher in the marvel universe and it's kind of like a throwback to the -- is one but you know and then."

" A way and I haven't read much of it -- I have read was it was him in this television. At times like -- pickup truck around -- smile and she hadn't. It was pretty satisfied had to admit for me. The person scratches and it's done us. But the thing is he scratching this for too long intensive wasn't happens create -- or get protective. Equipment it's exactly need backed. And who want acting really sending me back teaming."

" I think punishing -- If you've just think that's that's the pressure is too fast as a serial killers movies and books about. That in aberrant behavior Elizabeth fascination things that you are not like you know what drives -- to kill. I find Ted but it just at that time capsule. You know and little bit I don't want to immerse myself in a world in the but -- you know or a book about that sense of of that book the the Roberts same sort of thing if it's this whacked out -- out you want to read that well."

" So and it's so interesting is how -- they actually -- in movies. Debris removed is in -- 1989 and allotment you know -- the first question is not long -- which. We should talk about -- You know motorists they weren't there you my. Edited it and ignited and scholarships -- black and stupid. Lungren put into -- four -- excited because there was any punishment would be kind of in this way in the new company these things and sometimes change and it."

" There was it was game."

" Loose adaptation of welcome back frank and -- moved nearer to -- it's robbery and they passed -- from -- over the Baghdad I like Thomas. It was just you can't put. Pressure and Tampa that. Just can't sell. It does not right. All the way I had to watch -- just can't Andy at you today. The short -- then there's the movement is coming up this year and the couple days this is just listening yeah a partial war zone and you guys -- city's primary -- Rome Titus well which -- this. Do you have spate of departure and kind of in the he was bad actually machine and the valor in the trailer firmness of -- and --"

" They've brought back to New York -- that -- we screwed up we're back in New York -- jigsaw played by McNulty from the wire and it's all he has I imagine it you know a lot of pre -- it --"

" Yeah it's at -- it more -- and perhaps deep. We'll millions of people and it's I'm when I'm gonna go -- mind what extent. If it added a ghost writer and if it is -- for your post it yeah not everybody -- right. Curtain back. And so innocent so check and I'm sure you're afraid of the -- before we wrap up up there's a couple of things on the highlight is another thing. The great thing about the -- It's possible that he's just this killing machine sometimes allows for -- state and there was some black humor and and then just run but. Throughout the years have been a couple things instinct the first an accident before the crossover. Archie Patterson is Archie. Which if you can get your hands on this debt. -- It's hysterical it's -- it's -- so over the top anyway -- not that much harder to doctor -- to. -- taking so part of his argument fine but in 1985. Garth Ennis wrote a one shot called pollution -- tomorrow. -- that didn't do anything nobody cared. Didn't it didn't didn't do anything I run on nine happen for us for shipment. And when he came back to titled 2000 and peoples are buying back each and every president since but he did -- exit -- mr. basically it's kind of a one story. Where the -- should just kills every hero villain in the Marley lyrics -- he decides they're all breaking the law just until all. Which is 81 contain issue of killing every character. Is very funny. But then it not so much -- networks is the kind of things treatment is that -- shot and oh for a punch in the end. -- Answers the last story record and the constant in this is that Zain and you towards need to waste land -- of and he and he survived it. He's a cockroach and what happens is that he finds bunker where the president on the senators who who lost the war themselves so he travels that any sales. Because they killed everybody the thing about that yeah. Story is that you."

" You you you use your problem country character I did -- and the thing is he doesn't have any thing. Humanistic to grab onto his he's driven by killing things and and it's on for twelve issues. And that's why stop reading because of the that was fun that's enough. Some of them and you know he's not far off. You know the basic plot the basic points of the same -- man but. Family enhance the human. He's human you know circular -- I guess that's it is not a killer and as a big gives you particular -- not and that as a person as people around him there is nothing he can relate to people punishment of no pleasure. I've got to the fact that. --"

" Vietnam and that's the best thing sometimes I mean sometimes Jackson's character -- you know and and and it depends on people want ultimately."

" They did today -- and a hard time leads us rooting for silicone followed him her for years and -- news again coalition and he was great. Little bit of the Mac series bit I -- then -- look at -- cannot taxer Steve."

" In the end and a marvelous Izzy and so behalf and neighbors you there was -- beneath us and."

" They have killed and tobacco is black tobacco I don't care what you -- it was so tell us what you think in the punch -- in us to talk about that -- Your. Are you know -- Atlanta tells -- let the punishment. And call up 888 and was 32626 and I sat in that and the names that we can from the punished if --"

" I think what dot com talked about this show about why you like -- why don't. And look at all the other stuff there check out the audio podcast we will very likely do an audio show about movies coming up so look for that. Bomb that that's going to be a pretty soon and punish for about money. It's funny because you. You create conflict."

" But if -- keep talking until one of you."

" I have some sort of with. Atlanta. Three do."

What I like about The Punisher is he does not have an ounce of humanity. What I don't like about The Punisher is he does not have an ounce of humanity.

I pretty much agree that Castle is a pretty one dimensional character that's good for a fix, but after a while he gets old. I think it'd be better if sometimes he appears in other comics, sometimes he has short arcs of his own, and oh here's a cool back story on him, but doesn't really merit a whole series dedicated to him.

I did laugh pretty hard when he asked Elektra out though.

If I'd write Punisher I'd have him deal with things like gay marriage, religious discrimination. Throw some stuff at him that don't fit with the character. In the sense that he needs to get shoved into situation where his violence will be regrettable and inefficient. He would then return to his status quo, but for a while he'd have ponder social issues.

Another idea is to send him in a third world country and work him into an unwanted position of political clout.

I think the contrast of serial killer and social issues would be fun to write.

Prob'ly a really dumb idea.

Really enjoyed Ron's rationale for dropping Punisher Max.

Sorry to rant, but...

It makes me sad that the current volume of WAR JOURNAL has not received the credit it deserves for being home to the most humanly relatable Frank Castle ever (it often gets forgotten because Ennis's name isn't on it). In this series, the Punisher's origin is actually important (yet not overdone), and really brings out Frank's human side. Really. The Punisher has rarely, if ever, had a moment more moving than the one in which he realizes that in spite of having waged this never-ending ware on crime to avenge his family, he can't even remember his wife's face. That sadness, that feeling of suddenly being lost, was a great moment in comics. Matt Fraction has made the Punisher a character you can care about, which is more than I can say for Ennis's Punisher (post-origin).

It is also worthy to mention that, in spite of the various arcs, when the volume ends with #26 it will have all been one long (and even important) Punisher story set in the Marvel Universe, which adds a sense of the classic shared universe and an unpredictability rarely possessed by the MAX series.

Now, it makes me happy to know that it won't really end. It'll become PUNISHER in 2009 with a new #1, making it THE Punisher series, and I can't wait.

Good times.
