War Vault

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 – running time 24:53

iFanboy goes into the Vault and reviews Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and a Hard Place, War Stories Vol. 1, and The 'Nam Vol. 1

Men, what we've got here is a vault show! Ron spends some time in the cold, unforgiving winter or World War II in Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and a Hard Place. For a second time in a row, Conor goes back to World War II with Garth Ennis and War Stories, Vol. 1, and Josh heads to the jungles of Vietnam with The Nam, Vol. 1.

Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and a Hard Place

Ron's not a big fan of war comics, so what was it that actually got him reading one (besides, you know, having to do this show)? The unusual pairing of writer Brian Azzarello and legendary artist Joe Kubert taking on Sgt. Rock and Easy Company in Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and a Hard Place! Will this original graphic novel from DC Comics's Vertigo line make a believer out of Ron?

War Stories, Vol. 1

On the last vault show, Conor talked about his love for Garth Ennis' war comics when he discussed Battlefields, Vol. 1. This time, he takes a look at the book that started it all: War Stories, Vol. 1., which features a murderer's row of artists including Chris Weston, Gary Erskine, John Higgins, Dave Gibbons, and David Lloyd. Hold onto your heart, this one is going to kick you there, repeatedly.

The 'Nam, Vol. 1

Josh might have been too young to appreciate Marvel Comics's The Nam when it was first published in the late 1980s, but boy, is he ready for it now! It's surprising that writer Doug Murray and artist Michael Golden's story of every day life for the guys on the ground in Vietnam was even published. It's even more surprising to find out just how damn good it is.
