The latest from iFanboy: Episode 91 - Ben Templesmith

Let me get this out of the way: This was the POTW, hands down. I dont want anyone misreading this because I agree with this pick. Sure I picked The Stand this week for my pick, but overall looking back Action Comics was the best of the bunch.

Here's what I think of this overall arc: It was medicore. Granted the last issue was the best, but overall looking at the arc in general it just wasnt as entertaining. John's Legion arc just seemed to have something going for it. I cant put my finger why, but when I read that arc I enjoy it much more then I did with Brainiac.

Why didnt I like this arc so much? Because the storytelling was either too long winded and the new Brainiac is just too stupid in my eyes. Instead of going from issues #856-860; this could've just been a simple 3 issue arc with #856-858. With Brainiac I just dont like how big muscle this guy is. The reason why Brainiac is a great villain because he can match Superman with brilliant intellect. He always had the upper hand with Sups and it was Sups strength that got him out of the jam.

Instead I'm seeing a Brainiac that is as big as Arnold Swartzenegger and is just as strong as Superman. Sorry, I know he has the same intelligence as before; but it just looks ridiculous seeing this new version pummel Superman without a problem. I loved that cocoon version we saw at the beginning of this arc, that would've been a great Brainiac! Creepy and overall just myterious; instead of a Brainiac that looks like he drinks protein shakes and lifts weights on a daily basis. I mean why would Brainiac not look like this before in the decades of fighting Superman? (Yes the right answer is that no writer has thought of Brainiac like this for over 60-70 years) But still, if Brainiac was this powerful in his original form, there is no reason for him not to have his clones look like that or just stay his normal self.

Again, great issue, I loved it and I know Conor or anyone else is going to disagree with me on the overall arc....But to me I felt it was not worth the time like John's Legion arc was. Still excited about 'New Krypton' though.

I recently stopped buying minis and weeklies to save money. So, on my list?

I am getting ready to list on my eBay store, West End Comics, the entire original American Flagg series from the 1980s. Included are the 50 issues of the series, a special, and an additional four issues from Vol. 2 in 1988. All are in Very Fine/Near Mint condition. I thought that since American Flagg: The Definitive Collection Vol. 1 was the book of the month, someone in the iFanboy community might be interested in buying the entire original series for their own collection. Fantastic show, guys. I picked up Wormwood and Welcome to... today because of this show. Thanks a bunch for pointing them out.

A lot of my comics were meh this week - Batman Confidential, Secret Six (I was so bored), Spider-man Loves MJ. I haven't read Green Lantern yet cos I've got the one before it still to read. It's just been boring me though so I don't know if I can be bothered. I'm dropping those 4.

Magneto Testament was really good. I Kill Giants was awesome as always and was my POW.
