The Land of the Rising Sun is known for creating oddities, and their McDonalds commercials are no exception.
Over the past few weeks, lots of people on Internert have been nattering on about this insane mash-up of Japanese McDonalds commercials. And I agree, it's bonkers. But come on, big deal, pretty much everything the Japanese come up with is bonkers. You don't even need to do any futzing around with stuff out of Japan like whoever the fancy pants who edited this thing did in order to be astounded by the weirdness in the Land of the Rising Sun.
So to prove this to myself, I started to do a little nosing around on Internet to find Japanese McDonalds commercials that weren't all tripped out by some "artiste" with a basic knowledge of Final Cut. And sure enough, the un-gussied Japanese McDonalds ads are just as weird, right out of the box.
I mean, look at this one, with that fat ass Grimace causing horrendous damage to the Japanese infrastructure while Ronald McDonald endangers a bunch of seemingly kidnapped, but well-fed, children, recklessly chasing his purple prey down the highway.
No fancy editing necessary to get your $5 worth out of that tab of blotter acid while watching that.
Or, you've got this one, with some chitonous looking creatures fantasizing, and then apparently orgasming, over a burger that seemingly oozes pus.
How could Mayor McCheese permit this?
But at the end of the day, maybe Japanese McDonald's commercials aren't all sinister. After all, they are, to my knowledge, the only people who have ever successfully made Ronald McDonald uncreepy, and even kind of hot. Watch this.
I'm lovin' it too, honey. You've got to hand it to them. Like the VCR, Ronald McDonald is yet another American invention the Japanese have improved upon.
Oh, by the way, American McDonalds commercials can be pretty trippy too.
