Nugs.net, Genuine Bootleg
Saturday, September 8th, 2007 running time 09:24
Ever listened to a 'genuine' bootleg of a live show? You can hear live recordings from over 150 bands on NUGS.net, from Metallica to The Grateful Dead, and it all started with one man taping concerts.
Have you ever listened to a 'genuine' bootleg, a true audience recording of a concert?
Brad Serling taped hundreds of concerts in the early 90's. He also traded concert tapes. The process was miserable, waiting for the recordings to ship, sometimes finding out that the 'A+ sound quality' was really grade Z.
In 1993, Brad started the free NUGS.net stash, "a labor of love" putting samples from his taped concerts online, so people could sample the audio without committing to a trade.
In 2002 NUGS.net became a business, when Phish, partnered with Brad to start Live Phish Downloads.
Now you can find live concert recordings from over over 150 bands, including Metallica, the Dave Matthews Band, Phish, the Grateful Dead, The String Cheese Incident and the Black Crowes.
From audiotape and the postal service, to online streaming downloads available anywhere with a 'net connection. What comes next? Watch our interview with Brad to find out.
