Photoshop Hall of Famer, Eddie Tapp guest hosts this week with Bert Monroy at Photoshop World in Las Vegas. Learn about skin softening techniques and the controlling of color and tones.
Meet Eddie Tapp - one of the world's greatest photographers and Photoshop Hall of Famer! He joins Bert Monroy this week to discuss eSoftSkin technique. This is the first time Eddie reveals this tutorial!
We begin with a photo of Rene Anderson in Hawaii, then see the image after processing. Also see a before and after photo of Ludacris! To do this softening technique, create a copy of the image in a new layer, then apply the Surface Blur filter. Use a radius of 10 and a threshold of 100 (or double for both). Then, create a layer mask on the blurred image. The mask will be filled with black, which hides the layer. Simply paint the mask white in desired areas to reveal the blur over skin tones only. We won't apply this painting to detailed areas like the eyes and hair. To retain detail in the skin, turn down the opacity of your brush.
Learn Eddie Tapp's techniques on color and tonal control. We take the example of a sunburned man's photo. To lessen the redness in his skin, open up the color adjustments and change individual CMYK colors as an adjustment layer. Make sure you have a color calibrated monitor when using this technique. Add a layer mask to the adjustment layer, and paint white on the areas of skin only.
