Secrets of Photoshop Hair Brushes
Monday, June 16th, 2008 running time 17:31
This week, Bert magically creates hair and fur from scratch with the pen tool and brush engine.
Bert tackles the topic of creating realistic hair and fur with Photoshop this week. First, Bert creates long flowing hair using the pen tool (for the shape of the strands), define brush preset option (to create a unique brush stroke), the brush engine (to adjust the custom brush) and stroke effect (to add effect).
Similarly, Bert makes fur by creating a custom brush stroke with the pen tool, paths, define brush present, brush engine (adjusting scatter and count) and colorize effect.
Don't forget to design and e-mail Bert a background for our green screen! Please send a jpg design with size 1280x720 pixels

I'm pretty sure that DPI or Resolution doesn't mean anything when it comes to images meant for the web (or your computer).
It only comes into play when you want to print something. There's a lot of people that think 72 DPI is the standard DPI for the web, when that's not true. Your computer and the web only care about pixels. Pixels wide by pixels tall.
Bert said that he uses 72 DPI because it's 'screen res', to me that sounded like you need to make your images at 72 DPI when you are making images bound for your computer or the web.
Am I wrong here? I'm pretty sure that the only thing computers care about are the pixels wide by pixels tall.
Other than that, great show :)

This has now become ridiculous. It's been two months since the last episode recording, you should have fixed this by now.
If Revision3 is too stubborn to just record off of the damn screen and not film a projection please give this show back to PixelCorps. Why are you so insistent on moving PixelPerfect into an inferior studio?

This is absolutely horrific! (Click the image for full HD horror)

hey jon,
you're right about the 72dpi being not really true Dot Per Inch, but it is considered by many to be the "standard" screen res although i think this came from early monitors which had no variable resolution and the number just stuck. the software was programed to need to know how wide the image is, since all monitors are different you kinda have to give it something so it doesn't whine so 72 gets put in.
if you want more info here's a link on the subject
there is one place that i know this 72dpi business can affect what you see on screen and that's when you click on zoom-print size and it's never the right size.
if you go into preferences under "units and rulers" there is a section to enter your screen res. and if you're fussy like me you can take a ruler and tweak the screen res till a 1inch by 1inch square really is a 1 inch by one inch square when you click zoom print size. just thought you might like that trick;)
oh and benking I don't know if the rest of the show looks bad in high def, but when you're zoomed in on a tiny part of the screen that way and blow it up it can't look good, no matter what. you're seeing pixels because they where zooming in to see Bert draw pixel sized dots for a brush. sorry man, some things can't be high def.

Otherwise, nice episode.

higher DPI allows you more control and more detail. A 800x600 image at 72dpi is going to be larger (say 5inx4in) than a 800x600 image at 300dpi (like 3inx2in) or something. I usually work in higher DPI. What he meant by screen rez is that if you make an image 800x600@72dpi and your monitor is set to 800x600. Your image will fit perfectly and not be stretched at all.
Anyway I'm disguested that they went back to the camera on the LCD monitor. I thought they listened to our suggestions but I guess not. Maybe another email to Jim is in order...

did anyone else notice in the credits that the host was not actually bert monroy, but "bert monro"?
