" It's."
" Welcome to another episode pixel perfect paper on shall show you all kinds of stuff. It's stuff -- Photoshop because today we're gonna actually talk about history. Lot of requests of illustrator actors talk about factors -- talk about that today. In fact and then the next four shows today and three more about illustrator it is understanding of -- powered it's available and that program. Totally different program -- that second first. Thank my pals over at godaddy.com. Who sponsored the show and going to be my little thing here where you get all kinds of great deals going to get 96 dollars in -- extras with your domain name from godaddy.com. Each domain includes free hosting with a web site builder a free blog complete email and much more. And to decode pixel. You right there on the screen. When you check out and you and your dot com domain name it's just 695. Years six dollars and 95 cents a year that right there. So some restrictions apply et cetera so go check them out godaddy.com and -- would have to offer. Now. Let's talk about. The difference between illustrated Photoshop. Now Photoshop is basically what's called a raster base or pixel based program. -- state vector. Object space program. That is big difference between the two of now right here on my screen I have a 72 DPI file that you see it right there. And I have a 300 PPI file. Exactly the same file and I have a vector far easier or -- exactly the -- they look exactly the same. I do is gonna come in here and select these guys and get my info on. Now look at the three of now -- seventy PI file of course is the smallest it's only 608. K it's fairly small. The 300 PPI file is eight megabytes. Same file. More resolution got bigger the illustrator file is one megabyte just slightly larger then be -- to -- PI file. Enough in Photoshop. Now the thing is let's just say that I wanted to have this image blown up to this side of a building huge file. That civic duty PI found and I don't look very good -- let's go see those files in Photoshop. Here's he's having to DPI file when Knight zoom in on this little corner here. But it pixels. Field of pixels. When I blow it up inside the building. While -- to get big giant pixels that 300 PPI found that's a little better right we zoom in on it and there's pixels. Get in real positive those pixels very obvious again. Of course have gotten really close to see them but if I'm blown this up the size of -- building those pixels become really big and be noticeable. So there's a filing illustrator let's zoom in on that same area right here. But that. C sharp that is zoom in real close to this little point right here look at that no pixels. Because it isn't a pixel based program. Here's what happens in Photoshop you have a basic grid. Number of little squares those eight pixels a certain number of cross and a certain number doubt. Right so your. Gotta civic duty BI file in your images one inch by one and inched its into pixels across the two pixels now. If 300 PPI probably got 300 pixels across three."
" So. What happens in this situation. Is that you get. That both particular little blocks become color -- you assign a color to a particular. Pixel. Any one of sixteen point eight million possible callers can be assigned to a single pixel. Now why does that Photoshop file becomes a large because all those pixels have information. Just the fact that their white doesn't mean that they had information they are white pixels. Now what happens in the case of an illustrator file is that it's one good thing kind of agree it however. It's not actually creating pixels what it's doing is -- find positions on the grid and setting up little. Blocks of text in the nation just text describing. Where that or what's happening in that particular point. So it says it at this particular point within my eight art board within might have loved page whatever -- you've chosen. There is a line with a certain angle of a certain film of certain. It's broken so once -- it. That's all information is just text information which then gets translated to how it's gonna be -- on screen and how it's gonna print on the page so when you blow this up really big. It just means that. In this within this area off 400 feet by 600 feet there is a line of a certain -- that again so that's why it pretty clean. Now people have been asking for strong tight controls in Photoshop when we -- good current and archive stuff. Why Photoshop is not the place where you create -- You'll create headlines in Photoshop. Words that are on five are made of water or whatever. But yeah I'd go in there and putting your body copy -- I'm gonna put that little six point disclaimer at the bottom of the edge and then -- Because when you print that is gonna be a series of like three or four little pixels which will not hold the letter. So this in Photoshop is not where you actually type. In vector based program. That's read the attack because that's where you'll get that four point text and -- be legible you zoom in on it very clear. So this is the place where you'll go in and up start to create your. Your you're drawing it's also much easier on ran from Asia. Which is why I drool and illustrator. Not a thing I wanna cover in this for -- show on those straighter. Is something of people have been asking for for a long time and -- to make things look comic book like. But I want to do is not that the rides are. Back the rights photographs and back the rights have been with scans simple line drawing. -- now. As a movie recently called scanner darkly which is basically that it was a vector rise image. Everything and -- movie all the film was that the rise and the people looked like there is kind of comic book. Now have you read about it they say with proprietary software that the -- Which really means that they keep to themselves an activity you but right here we have illustrator which will handle. That kind of thing. And it over here and create a new file."
" And in Photoshop. And to prepare my file that's close these guys down and I'm gonna open up. The file here. -- me. Says the picture of me. I right now are there a couple of things in the air that I -- to enhance -- make it look a little better. So I have a path that I set up for myself right here which -- load. -- the -- they just loaded on myself there. And I can zoom in on this legacy like my head up there it's got his big white spot right there or do I take my paintbrush. And pick a color from right. Here that this little pinkish color right there again I saw that brush like this one that's a good size and I set the mode. To darken. Right so when I start the pan am just gonna kind of darken that white spot up there just can't even an out of habit they thought out of that big white -- So now a pullback. And if -- haven't selected to go into my. And the levels kind of enhanced it's a little more animate my dark to a darker my lights later. It's darkness could give myself a little more contrast going here. Thank it's standing up in the background even more keep in mind it back to rises so it doesn't matter it's don't look kind of chunky in the photograph doesn't matter. Click okay. -- like that I'm gonna save. It save this as. Me. -- done. Okay. Put it right on my desktop. So right here to say. And now. Now an illustrator they know very similar. There is a consistent. Interface throughout all the Adobe suite with the exception of a dream -- and after effects but pretty much everything startled look saying. Cell and there was an episode I talked about the news -- reliance so referred that I went to one he was going on here now here I'm gonna go in and place. Place. That means it puts something into this file and it onto my desktop here and there is need -- Place. It comes it. Now the minute the photograph and then in -- that the bar along the top automatically changes. No matter what Tor -- no no matter what action in the middle of the toolbar and reflect what I'm currently doing since I took a photograph -- some buttons up here. And one of on the right is cool why traits. Live traces the one I'm going to use and bring this over to decide -- who knows what's gonna happen here and click on live Trace. I've -- do you as its default and right there it -- turned into black and white series of factors now click on this little guy here which brings up. The options for -- recognizable and hear the next battle it. I don't want to be back a white I want colors and color. And increased number of callers -- this galway and a 256 -- get sixteen colors. Like that. Let's preview it would -- look like. It's gonna go in there and there we see what started to happen it's going in there and creating all these factors. Of mine are. That's good enough I can play around without things and maybe -- tiny bit of a -- to it and so on and just I could think NASA's second Ed. Total amount colors and sort and make it almost look like the photograph again except it will be factors. So I'll be able to manipulate this -- so many different ways. Not to say Trace go ahead and -- that. So I do I'm gonna save this as. We'll call this. Me. Cartoon. And again analysts say it in the on the desktop. Go back to Photoshop. And Photoshop. I'm gonna go ahead and actually a -- and you file that it is opening it that way I'm gonna start a new file. And click okay. And have a place command it to take place and we don't there places. And as neat cartoon place. It's gonna come in there it is click okay. There's my little piece so what I'm gonna do this guy is I'm gonna go in there."
" And adjust them dual kinda -- into it or I might. Take a step further we get rid of that come back over here go back to illustrate it it one step further I'm going to. Expand. And expand what that's going to do is going to actually going there and show me the vector -- of actors. I'd actually go in there and select an individual vector and change its color. As to say of going there and fill -- with this right -- say. Let's undo that. Well -- do this time I'm gonna do a select all. And copy. I copied it so popular because it. -- This way this time I can go back to Photoshop and instead of placing it on it was gonna say. New. Since something is in the clipboard noticed that the you dialogue box now reflects what's currently in the clipboard so right click okay. It's gonna to be exact same size when I paste. -- face them here paste. Smart object pixels -- shape layer. I added the color the color came from that effect direct file in voter in the illustrators on the same pixels. Click okay and bears the image it say it's in place so now and go in here and let's just go in flatness. That's make that happen. There is like -- flatten it. And now I can go in here and softened some stuff. I go here to see what it's not look like here of one of these the background all rough like that but. Somebody here is in my face and I want to go in here and with the one drop tool kinda. Soften some of the stuff. It's increased pressure on it and it go and it's office on the things I want to and so on electing to select the entire area I can hear. And student who. Are gauzy -- it just to soften that up. Okay I would start to get a softened look to assess to have more of a cartoon kind of feel. Now. Go back over here illustrator. That's create a new file."
" And let's just say we have some little drawing that we sketched it is."
" Who would cancel -- with the -- whatever. That's scanned that in there and bring in here vector -- So into the the place just like before and I have this little robot head that my son chew on that for me. It is demo and a place. There and it's. Now right now this is the actual skeptics see the pencil lines in here. Again -- traces active and click on live Trace its gonna go in there and automatically. Make that conversion for. There it is now a -- out of the pencil marks so I can go in there and who wrote this site going -- I live Trace control. And but the professional. -- and -- really high number and preview you're gonna see dollar start to get my little pencil marks again. There's nothing all of a pencil marks. I don't really want to talk to bring it back down to me low number. That's about 118. And -- let go ahead and say Trace because I noticed when I want -- I -- a preview clip so it's gonna gonna and there is that click okay. -- Now I have this this image here now. Have another button appear cool lives paint. Why -- is going to allow me to go in there and Pincus. I click on -- paint. And it's gonna go in there and traces and become alive paint object. Light -- group as they call it. So I get my -- paint bucket here and they drag it over particular areas you see how to get red and -- here and it's a three boxes on top. They reflect what's in the fill dialogue box. -- go in here and I think I pick a fill it. And I -- my left and right arrow keys. To edit switching says that little box in there. I'm traveling to different -- that and click inside there. And when it gets red -- and about the film that area. And it from that was read. So I can go pick another column say we get this great over here and I wanna fill this little band right along here. So when I go in here notice how it's. Right click it fills the whole thing. Fill the whole thing wide because their gaps here they're little -- and zoom in and look at this legacy of the gaps. So what's happening in those little -- is that the paint is filtering through its falling through all those little up areas. So. I would fix that. Gonna go back to my little life painting here. And in my live paint. Options I've been called gap options. -- gap options and I was on the object on their life paint. I've pulled up the gap options. Now -- options. When I turn onto gap detection. And you'll see this happen now I -- these little red dots. There appear. All of these little red dots that are all over campaigning. Not the overall outlined a speculate when I went into this I was actually -- the -- in place so -- that air but inside the drawings all of the red dots. Those gaps right now the gap previews at the red. So that's why it's red by set this would mean. They're gonna become mean. They are feeding the green dots people through pain those are my caps now I can choose small gaps medium gaps large gaps custom -- So I can go in there and create my own size that I want very specific -- now I can post those -- with -- to go in there and actually create. Though paths that'll close it up but I don't need to create those I'd like to keep the integrity of the original drawing. So I'm gonna leave the way it is but this dep protection is not. Now when I bring that live paint you noticed that now it's no longer jumping all over the place -- Google -- fill that with the -- this would degrade this would degrade that. And that. Here and here. -- year. There. And there and I'd go into one of my little of radiance like this guy and build a little. A little bit it's here and there there there. And this -- right there. Without and it it'll -- indicator is coming where I am about to fill. And that -- IDs like this you can see that I announced on the color rises can polarize the entire piece."
" And then you see what it looks like this particular file. And the file would be the right values when your own so I will put both those files online you can download those and do those yourself -- But -- got detection allowed to go in there and close up of -- without actually physically going in there and post them. And there are still there or -- that -- you've got detection is preventing ink or paint from spilling out of those holes I can film plug -- Or just have got detection pardon for me fill leaving the visual visual whole. A popular or something from this one. Illustrator very powerful tool the next three shelves then look at other features of illustrator expect to see all the stuff that's available here. Being vector it's bodies -- on ram and it's much clearer sharper. You can blow these things up as large as you want and still be very clear and if you want -- would bring it back in Photoshop where they will become raster rising become pixels again. But you can get all this great detail illustrator they've been in the Photoshop. And and to some images of voters. Popular something -- play this is a great program to play it. So the in the next show."
