" Hi welcome to pixel perfect with the burden on. Show where I show you all kinds of cool Photoshop tricks and some other programs -- there. What color another one of these the request that I got from the emails it's kind of a little strange one this week. Because I'm pretty much gonna teach one of the features in Photoshop very powerful feature and that is dependable. The -- told the very powerful tool but a very misunderstood to. Very difficult to use so hopefully in these few minutes that I have here today went to teach you how to use that tool. Now he's not he's magic wand I've shown in previous episodes these alpha channels select things and so on but what if the image happens to look like that. It's so monochromatic and none of the selection tools on the alpha channels none of those things going to actually select this object here. You can go into Photoshop and say select the head it doesn't know -- just looks -- values and everything's pretty monochromatic here. Now you could use a lasso but it would take a long time to do this and did you got a phone call in the middle of selecting you lose everything. Come back tomorrow and be done. The beauty of the past it's it's a very forgiving tool that'll be there that's part of that image as long as an image exists. And it takes up no memory whatsoever you can have up -- 22000. Hats with a file and file won't get any bigger. All of those paths are just a little. Information little text information describing. A particular shape in particular a part of that image and so on that's quite -- files source Balkans just text embedded -- the five. So -- went to do here today is to teach you how that -- who works. Now. Let's start by a job. Looking at the tool itself. When you click you get what's called an anchor point and to a -- click. And get a second point which now has a line connecting the two if you click and drag. You get the handles. This is who buys you occurred as you can see right now that those who curve. Is bending as I move that handle around the long with a handle the sharp New York the shorter handle. -- it becomes a -- play around with that handle. I come over -- hectic can drag any C have another little art and images click again corner point click corner point. Not a pretty of this tour was that like I said before it's very forgiving. So you could always change your mind and have I done in the can for the court now. I'm simply creating a path let's dump this whole thing and look at what's gonna happen. -- One is made up -- doesn't really pertain to pen tool the first one creates what's called a victim. It's a -- it's using the foreground color. And a path as a mask for that -- The second choice right there and have no choice creates the path just a path. Perfect for selecting things stroking it filling it disseminate things and -- been -- this tool. So let's go here and see what happens this to statements I would do blue sharks to. So -- clicked and dragged. These little handles anything want to constrain and I can hold down my shift key as goes straight up and down 45 or horizontal -- constrain it straightened out. And I come over here and I've clicked and dragged in the same direction traveling north letting go backwards to the great deafening -- I go in this direction. And here's my art right there that's decided -- sharks to. At least handles control the angles of my as your -- I move those around like he's a second ago it changes to -- I'm gonna hold down my command key which is controlled via. Could Tokyo on a PC and I didn't appointed temporarily exe that could easily grip the point or grid handles and move around. Now he's handles followed attention of the -- Tonight -- come in this direction here. I never really sharp -- so I need to move this handle down this way did you notice that when I move it it's when the other hand was well. So when he's an independent handle handle that has nothing to do with the previous handle. To do that hold down my option key alt alt on a PC and click on the point and pull out a new handle say. Now it's independent of the person bring I would this way -- independent and this curve come down here and click and drag. Now at any time I can move these around until having an active shape that I want right there. Now -- second to the will go back -- option click and drag you handle. Click and drag. Option handle. Click and drag and I got to shark's -- Okay now that's a good start right there. -- selected that."
" And now does my little -- a little pan with a little -- that means that if I click now about to start a whole new point now watch when I go over. The end of my previous line he has got a little line was circle that means I'm about to continue that path and right click. And continuing that path so if I click and drag now you notice that I have one continuation. I keep going around that come over here. And now watch again now you -- it's -- depend if I go over the starting point for getting zero a little circle and isn't about the closed the path. Click and I've closed the past have one complete -- At a -- does not have to be closed. But if you want won't -- shape. -- the close. So now that I have this path would have led them to my artwork. Nothing is simply a path through which I'm going to do something. Now you notice that says work path which means temporary a -- and save it. Announced that one I can name it here and so but I got this little path. This is safe prisons they wanted to add a little bump right here a little bump. Well the the little cursor it's a little pen with the with the acts among -- select my path. And just touched it with the pointed tool and now select. Now it's a close path. So my little well. -- my little icon you can see is still the pen with a little -- to -- I'm going to start a whole new -- Now notice what happens when I drag it over an existing line. It -- and plus. It's the same thing is coming over here and selecting the at anchor point. All the tools to -- have to actually go to those tools but bringing over a line. And at the plus second clip. Click and click. I pull up this little banner have a little bump on the to the now notice when I bring it over an existing point again minus which means it can delete delete delete. -- can -- points taken away and so. As to say that right in -- I'm gonna -- this little. Shape like that would've been nice to have some Kurds and there no problem. I can come over here and hold down my option key you know is again the cursor changes that click and drag and -- handles. Click they go away. Click and drag handles. -- to go away I can change my mind to anything I want at any time to this. And I can go in here and it's just -- it's sort -- direct selector tool hadn't read the line itself move it hadn't read the points. -- everything can be addressed. Now -- to say that. I've got this guy selected it doesn't have to be selected that's just the select. You're transforms it live on the edit and come up here and say transform pack. Notice how announces path because that path open sudden gonna scale it rotated this scale. You see them on scaling the path. It's just says select a couple of points as to says select. These points these two points right here at the end -- know is that with the pointer to it's as too little -- around them which allowed me to select these two points but solid mean they're selected the rest are hollow. So now. I come up to my transform again and you'll notice it's -- smart menu it says transform points. So that can go in there and say rotate. As -- rotate you'll see that on rotating just those two points on the and they. Anything I do will affect just those points and again nothing's happened to my -- until I do something with those particular paths. You a stroke. Fulfill what ever let's just go in here say. Makes election and you could see I have the ability and and move a feather and so -- I gold. Me and say fill the path. Fill -- with what foreground color background color pattern and so."
" And I can stroke as well stroke. And you notice that I can take any of the tools that -- wanted to brushes and -- stroke that path. Now. I prefer to stroke it in a different way. Because when you choose a tool that will automatically use that tool in its former. State however was set up mr. Sam who was using it leaves the last time. That's not what I want this time so what actually do as I go to the tool that I want to use. And I'll choose the color that I want and onto the actual size that I want us to say I want to be this size here that's a good size and maybe a little bit harder. I have full control over the brush itself on in the brush. So by stroke tool. Via the Pallet it's -- automatic we use -- probably some of the tool as you see here. They now we've actually done something to New York. That's look at another part of these little paths. I have here. A path. -- Now you notice is made up of two paths this one inside and one outside. Now it knows what I don't feel it has conceded little photo icon here and also India -- me -- path to right click on that. Notice that the path on the inside is the whole that the art requires. Undo that what's happening there -- the path. That's inside no overlaps another path it turns into what's called a compound path needed that is in negative area it's a whole. Now I'm gonna add another. -- path right inside here like this sent this -- of the path. Now we have three paths this for overnight flight and so when I go ahead and Philip you know isn't the place where they overlap again becomes a compound path. So I had been negative area and it. That's undo that. And I'm gonna just select this past. Just that one that. I have three paths that lived together but I selected one and drawing attention to that one pass if I go ahead and -- Notice that only that path -- filled even been good to pass exits together since they do with pension to a single path only that path was used. So you can have many many paths together a prison when I create my images. They've made up of many many many paths and I have to separate them simply select the path -- don't use. That path then could come with selection -- filled the strobe the when."
" Let's go here and go ahead and outline something. I have this cup. Very simple cup and his -- will be online so you guys to do the same exercise. One thing that's important is to keep it. Number of -- points compliment don't have a lot of -- points is more to read and so on so when you look at the longest possible sweep. Or news one point at either end it when we look at the top of this cup right here as long circle area. How many points you think it would take fill that most people -- 34. I've seen people go. Putting little anchor points about half inch apart from each other but it's one continuous sweeps or news to. One of dissent which -- click and drag. And wanted to -- click and drag. And they would exceed that we've outlined the entire top of that cup with just two points and it cannot write you can always go back there and modify it -- was exactly the way you want. So I'm gonna continue here and now we see that this has a little too long -- up."
" And click and drag a little tiny hand comes down to here and click and drag right in there I go around with those sweet click and drag. It created a new crew of not just gonna go right about here and click. And drag which I get this nice little circle going on there come down to about here click and drag. I think that come in this little corner click and drag and go right around that movement right there. Come down here to the bottom to click and drag. And now I can go all the way across this pull out -- much longer handle here much longer handle them all with his side and to a click and drag now can we can justice after the fact this has pointed straight up here. And then go up to the top and clothes and and I -- some joint adjustments and go in here and pull that wanted to straight grab this and just pull it down. That's going to require a little bit of playing around so this to school here and open this up. And look at this. If you can pull this guy out that's pulled this up a little and let's pull this down pull this over. -- so. Just a little bit more and there we have the -- cup. Now the the inside part -- here and just create this little. Turn right around that come over here. Click and drag down here click and -- the right down to the bottom here click and drag around with little. Curve and I'll fix that afterwards and top and close it off not to."
" Fix this one is smaller handled right there so there I have these. All the path that I need I can now take that in turn into a selection. And once I haven't -- selection I'd go in there and save let's just take this to Sydney in new layer -- cut. So of our goal look at my layers you see that the cup is in its own layer now I've been able to go and you select that cup and pull it out of its background. I can still do things to it has to say we go to a another layer here let's turn -- the background as decision I want the edges to be very very soft. So let -- do is. A dog in there and -- that following the the path or doing some of the school and then go to layer and given a mask. And in the mask I'll take black and I take a nice soft bed brush that's it is 100 here. Make a very soft. And it's in there with my paintbrush. I'm in the mask I take this path and stroke it. And then we see that we've hidden those outside parts of the a cup. It's a tool that is very forgiving. You can go in there and change your mind any time -- angles of things will round and so it takes practice. It takes a little -- playing around with it until you get it right might be frustrating at first but keep -- It's not using up a tremendous amount of ram and it's not affecting our until you actually did something that path. We actually going to say make a selection stroke it -- that's gonna do something to the art otherwise it's just a tool that's going to. That you change your mind as much as one. Once you go in there it's -- plainly that. NASA that tool cause one's inhabit this as we nothing you can't. Doing Photoshop at that point to create all the objects you want and the next step so we're gonna use that pen tool to create some objects. I hope you learned something from that I want to thank my sponsors that godaddy com you guys who will host a website. Don't -- designed it for you if you domain name and would you enter a code. The -- pixel PI XEL. That's when I would've got that may be pixel perfect thank you -- that -- an additional five dollars off any order of thirty dollars -- more. So get those guys little hole -- go to -- site and see what they can do. -- learned something remember play best way to learn is to play don't think of this work this play. See in the next show."
