How to spicen up your iPod ringtone

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 – running time 01:52

Use iTunes and your favorite song to create your own original iPod ringtone, for free.

Sarah doesn't want to spend money on ringtones, especially since she already spent so much buying an iPhone. Well, luckily for her, she can add any of her favorite jams* by just using iTunes.

Easy steps:

  1. Make sure your import settings are set to "AAC High Quality" by going to Preferences - Advanced - Importing
  2. Select the song in your library that you want to ring-tone-ify. Right Click - Get Info - Options Tab. Set the start time and stop time. Remember, ringtones can only be 40 seconds in length.
  3. Right click, select "Converting Selection to AAC"
  4. With the new file created, right click and select "Reveal in Finder."
  5. Rename the file to extension ".m4r"
  6. Drap the new ".m4r" file to iTunes!

*" Jam" is slang for "music." Use it with all your friends!
