" Last we could look at hanging promising to teach you that three different types of Scam School stands. This week we deliver the goods."

" It has two -- godaddy and Netflix. Welcome of the show that'll still respect you in the morning scans dual the only show dedicated to social engineering at the bar and on the street. And fried rice would and we are back with -- second half of myself by southwest it'll. Social engineering scammed her way into anything or from anybody. First one is an opener these tricks that are highly visual you don't care they're paying attention or not because they do themselves. And it doesn't matter somebody's engaged or not for example when -- that we we actually just -- a couple months -- on Scam School this is the kind of -- you could do with a drink -- at a barbecue that everybody got nine what happened -- as he reached forward -- when I was -- And it was one of those who have used for good political pull that -- using -- what you're trying to bend that they don't tell me that they'll bend at all. No of course not questioning your car and I got through your -- there -- watch but very -- in minutes ago from camp I'm gonna do any switcheroo there is no prenatal none of that tricky. David Blaine yes. Rich LA guys live feed that started in the site you'll almost a hundred years ago originally called. The human life. But I like the waves of response serial I know some people thinks that this is a penetrate mail but I assure you. It's not. That's right that was a -- to joke. Screw you mastered zooming out all the human -- can't. There are at this point I'd have somebody reached forward and actually pull it out now this is something so unexpected so visual so amazing first thing people are going to do it asks you repeatedly for their friend. Never ever repeat anything once as a trigger twice is a lesson. So everywhere instead of using Nevada's second base."

" You wanted screeners here between years are more interactive this is your chance to build report and get to know the person that you're talking to. Once you actually have them asking you to do tricks being able to move to the next -- for example but every single --"

" Hansbrough but you can't afford to myself and transport -- go to WWW. Touched down just like this just like this. Reliable and safe to do this thing with your bones together all extremely testicles has got to go. Do you think the last time that this particular time I didn't realize I'm just like select one classroom together appearing on all unit investors in the -- is going to be good on the kind of thing you know you're ready one. -- Pretty. Yeah did you get a -- that's still I was try another one."

" Almost everybody here we ran out 211 a prevalent -- just -- everyone here should have a underneath his seat they magical and chanted."

" Washer from Atlanta this time. Two unicorn red. These are highly. Expensive how many guys have although it BMW -- just not you know how want to get an you can use your badge you can use a necklace it doesn't really matter I just thought it. Make it easy for you guys. We're gonna do something culture rules pendulum and the idea here is don't you imagine that we're gonna use our magical watchers to contact an ancient spirits. From Atlantis who goes by the name of Bob. -- so I don't hold it right and clearly -- logistics underneath. I don't want to hold still I don't move anything but I want to imagine that you ask Bob a question. He's an answer by saying yes and you'll say yes by using his goes hand to move. That pendulum forward and backwards on its own -- to visualize picture moving forward and backwards on its own so the -- is gonna work right away some of the it'll take a little time but all of you it's gonna start moving forward that was on its -- how -- this morning in the new year. Yeah. -- And sure enough. That's exactly about how -- engineer the job. I'm coming I believe we just contacted Bob from Atlantis. Time machines for all of you. Yeah this is that this is actually the fundamental premise it's called -- motor response and it's how all forms of dollars in works -- did we did a Scam School on you'll be you can check --"

" And finally got chaos these the most important ones because he's spent 1015 minutes getting to know someone giving somebody something for free you giving him value expecting precipitation. Up payoff is a challenge or an unbeatable puzzle that relies on some moment we you get somebody to promise you their real good either for real or jokingly to give you something of value and because once they use -- once they say -- drink."

" Something called social proof people like to remain consistent. With who they believe they are and if they say in the words I want my you drink it's very unlikely that they will renege on that and decided he -- force in the buy a drink anyway. So here's some -- you guys a quick example of the kind of payoff. Routine that we would do and I'm gonna -- only guys because for the remainder of self I felt blessed every time you sit down for dinner you're going to insist on trying this to see if -- works with the glasses at your table could kill the lights those illustrator area. There again you got a -- he got to let you get."

" But. I'll hold onto your for a moment the question. Which you think is more. The circumference. Around the top of the plate glass. For the height from the top of last all the way down to the bar what do you say that the circumference or more of the high. Is it a height so we're gonna start up -- I'll read it which is more the hype for this would come."

" Those -- covered -- it was 32 pretty good now going to try to mix at the odds I grabbed them. Sun decks of cards you can use packs of cigarettes here now we're gonna make it a little more interest ethically in the -- of it is not a question is. Mr. comes into conference right but now we've added three -- to the high."

" So so so the -- from your all getting on what you gonna go to height parts it would take one -- circumference got a high you."

" Your whole nation are interesting. Interesting all right so. -- Right now we're talking about right here for comfort throughout the air at all the way on down."

" I think you got that you've got both jobs blog about this all the way down and I am going to be the lone idiots who votes. -- Yeah there's I can. Area right there."

" Bill aircraft you stick figure to get up early in the back of my last. Almost a work around on the top there somewhere deep at the beginning. In the brain that -- you look at that there is no way it's like -- almost. I think that's. Let's ever go to Overland."

" I had let the others like certain number of reasons why can't you guys can play them on your friends."

" It."

" We're -- quickly is that the people with these scams possible. All right this week for your Netflix homework we're gonna combined magic juggling three performing. And check out. On the wire documentary of the true story of -- pulling off the artistic crime of the decade back in the 1970. He ran high wire between. The two towers of the World Trade Center in New York and spend fifteen minutes walking back and forth thirteen. 800 feet over New York City the story plays like a heist movie and -- Better knowing that it's. Story the best part is you have more. Music. Hope you don't have deadly head on over the www. Netflix dot. Sliced in school they -- the www. beginning or we don't get credit for the sale and you don't get a more stand schools."

" Hot finally we're gonna move to the third the most important of the psychological back -- this is one that is so powerful it is the most prone to abuse my con men as a matter of fact is the idea that people have a tendency to respond to big ears and the trappings of authority one guy who took -- incredible advantage of this. Was a -- the legendary con man. Frank -- helping having LTD is the -- had to catch me you can't was about to read the brokers on the movie."

" He figured out at a very young age that he could pass the most obviously bogus checks if he was dressed as a pilot or as a doctor because these figures are."

" Forty figures and nobody bothered to question what they had to say traveled all over the world cash over a million dollars in checks his amazing stories you read it. Honest get over this stuff."

" Follow social psychologist Leonard minutemen wanted to find out how hard it is to read read resist."

" Requests from figures of authority so we had a guy go up and on the street just you know random order -- and nothing you think going to trash that you stand on the inside and --"

" Half the time half the time he was dressed in plain clothes and the other times he was dressed in a security guard costumes. And amazingly when you dressed in street clothes 42% of the time people do what he says the majority -- like about real. But 92%. Of people immediately complied. When he was wearing a security guard constant even though even though he's not on the street security guards got no not bill does any jurisdiction over that area but people follow the online in a --"

" As a matter of fact the -- right here in Texas shows that the uniform. That hit -- that."

" We get people to comply can only be a simple. Well tailored suit you look like a politician or a CEO that's as good as stressing any uniform for example the way they did this is they had a busy intersection they got a bunch of people who were waiting to cross the street. And it would send the guy to just go jay walking across and sometimes he was dressed in a nice three piece suit."

" And sometimes he was dressed in some work clothes and then it would count how many people followed him. -- across the -- as he initiated. The rebellion."

" Three times as many people followed."

" The guy when he was dressed in -- suit as when he was wearing were close."

" Tell us now given my and then not obviously look at the way I dress and the character I play on the show and on stage you know I'm not big on three piece suits but I still want a piece of that authority pie. So when I get it is -- laying a trap with -- my business card this thing."

" Is not limited authority. Black hole because up right right from the -- for the fancy pictures but what Hillary did it he's got him awards I want to deceive the world -- and oh my god he's won awards and then and these are you've been on Jay Leno and Tor sounds kind of gave me that's -- I was always show just to be clear that's."

" And as I go back wanted to remember what -- and getting no qualifications whatsoever and the magician appear onstage. The only reason I'm on stage right now giving this presentation is because I -- to show on the Internet called scam school and the only reason to show called Scam School because I wrote a book. -- she's consulate -- drinks fifties and ways to scan every drink. Who is the genius the publicist okay. This guy. It's a house of cards right and what's amazing is the more light headed I I handed out 10000 copies."

" That you've gone -- an old entries and not one person has ever questioned with a publisher was of this book but the appearance of authority and the trappings -- and are what people respond to its. Probably should not have just -- that. All right and I was looking on credentials are pretty much all concert credentials super easy to think the people were doing the deciding our our people working the venue they -- going to -- every single day don't really care of these want to go home again -- Just our goal line I don't of the tour poster looks like. What the words all access in Photoshop and you'll probably get through. True this. Truth is these guys aren't even looking at the badges most of time we'll explain why in a moment. But first -- you like you're crazy about majesty badges that say just about anything as far as I know there's not really government designation of authorized auto repossessed circuit. That does look very official B digital signed an anti gun. Officially say. All the different edges but once again the guys who are working in concert venues they're I have the time they're not even looking at that is what they're looking at is posture they're looking at the way you carry yourself they are looking for this symbols of confidence and authority."

" And you can take advantage of all those and he wanted to -- management authority to pay attention to the way you're dressed."

" Need to do to your movement your speech patterns -- user credentials to open the door don't rely on them repeatedly."

" Once you get an initial flash it's really about whether or not you act like you belong there."

" And as a man being held by the way there's a sales techniques still -- no there's all over the place. The person who asks the questions -- the conversation. And try this next time I was somebody and you want to see what it's like just aren't just keep asking questions the moment they had the answer one after another one after another one you keep asking as you're walking by them and say you take care and then update -- on the conversation. More on the subject of credentials. I suppose for legal reasons we have to present. What is very likely a completely hypothetical story that may or may not taking place right here in Austin Texas fifteen years ago when does that tell the University of Texas. Theoretically. In this story. A very young Brian Brushwood players on I was twenty and all of his friends. Who were 21 which is a real -- when all his friends want to go out to a bar or club and Brian unfortunately he couldn't rely on a social engineering skills because he looked exactly like a twelve year old boy. No way I'm convincing someone. I'm 21."

" At a time you know this is."

" Is an older license there's still you can't see and -- but there's all kinds of hot tub of water marks on the on the laminate and a very difficult to take one of these negative time -- Little -- had no money but they want and his roommates went to I'd get his license replace and in many places is still the case I think it might actually still be the case and taxes. But they don't give me your idea right away but you're going you're -- an ID he give you -- the temporary license for piece of paper business use this for the next six weeks."

" And it occurred to me that that's who pretty easy -- I mean hypothetically if."

" So I don't -- I don't I don't know hypothetically wrap it around the state -- taxes you know use the same fonts and had a piece of paper that said Brian -- is 21 years -- And the theory that little right -- for me and not had. With that if he had one piece of paper that said Brian -- who was 21 and another piece of tabling a student -- innocent as collateral was Brian Brushwood. That together I you'd be able to spend I'm distressed. And hypothetically. It it worked so there. Learn things up here we're not gonna do won't experiment and we're gonna take questions that you guys have any questions about the stuff I've talked about -- on Scam School we're let me save reported -- situational awareness not these are not one size fits all tools you gotta be aware of the person that you're dealing with. There's some fantastic books out there -- talk about reading body posture paying attention to people's lives dilation and their and then they're non verbal cues the best -- in my opinion was written in the seventies has called how to read a person like a book. Make sure to check that out. But that's what this up. That's what this experiment and is right here we're gonna try and experiment that's not a first experience was not me using manipulation can cause two people on stage to do what I wanted to do. This was the opposite that's what whoever I get for this gonna be totally free choice but we want but it'll be about me trying to read. The body posture they're non verbal cues that kind of thing and Fortis I need somebody does a whole lot reading what -- we don't want to looks. You -- actually do lottery in the ruins your directory. Science fiction nerd that's -- now that's. I don't want to talk I'm I'm a huge fan of Orson Scott card Garret Anderson Damon's mother like. Ninety guys here -- that not much easier for this experiment a person got to make sure you act on the same site can play nice if you would stand up right we are nice and loud so everyone can hear what is your name. Press. That is correct. -- even the most conservative estimates -- a half million words in English language if you wouldn't get any word that I predicted that exact word. Yes and just short of a miracle on our hands -- we Chris Chris -- wanted to get anywhere in the English language you got one. Actually before this elitist -- Chris I run -- discard a psychic predictions Chris just to clear things up do you happen in a letter written on the back to discard. Ladies and gentlemen. No. You're actually. I don't want and you lose you more than behavior that's."

" Chris I want to do I really."

" Really do -- doing is he's going to would you mind joining us appear onstage let's -- got a big round rock joins as the contents."

" have a -- right here actually put -- over here on this side and you're going to want to do but if I have to think it'll work -- appear onstage there's actually only about a hundred words are most likely to come up -- to help -- totally fair as possible that what we're gonna do is we're gonna give you a free choice -- right here in Austin Texas -- three -- everybody's -- If not actually read -- be able to figure current and mysteries are scary looks like grad Stephen king's the shining Chris cigarette. You have as do want to do so you'll also be learned a mystery is bigger of the Da Vinci code by Dan Brown credence. To see the -- But you've heard of close enough and gladly so -- the fantasy nerds on site by giving her public Harry Potter and the goblet of fire Chris. -- is good at math kind of self respect -- which of these three most do you want is for our little experiment. Okay particular reason you go without one it was in the middle and I am getting immediate chance once and only wants to change your mind and go with either the other two -- your mind. The exposure. Is still -- chance you get. Is actually going to go out to be like second images in the community as Israeli tanks. Car I wanted to take -- through those pages are on anything you want -- of the entire book let me know what you gotta pay you like adults say which what it is you got one. Excellent I'll let -- let your eyes and opened on that page until they land on a big fan interest in three dollar we're not care to name. We're chapter ending feels it too easy to figure out who won an interesting word you got one excellent remember networker closed book. They'll have done is about the fairest way to pick a war you got three books hundreds of thousands of words you can -- bookkeeping to page into word. We're trying to figure out your word and help me out and just start thinking of the first letter of this work and I want to think of an animal that begins at the same letter as this where you got up. Next three to four legged animal. This meeting of related animals this is not a -- just made up that's -- I pulled an animal projected over here. Good -- good -- God. For the first time Chris what's more like an animal are you picking -- at fox. Correctly."

" Yeah."

" Did very good photo database over it that way here because I'm I'm I think I got enough to go on right now you've given me a -- you've been I noticed that you picked up a very sly. Very excitable creature and I'm gonna make my prediction and kind of an unusual way as far as it knows no way somebody is actually done this before appear to have a little bit of feedback. When you see if I'm still connected to the Internet and if we're in trouble or not I'm not that we are out of work here. Direct and they actually click send we'll see if the -- to -- I should have ordered. I don't know I got right I don't know I got along just to be absolutely sure though I'm gonna actually jotted down on this piece of paper is welcome not everybody has."

" Yeah. Yeah yeah."

" Wish I don't don't don't don't don't tell. All right I got a -- right here or did you check your best."

" They -- they admit I've."

" And -- what's -- on -- like -- you lean in the limelight and nice -- so what -- you're thinking up."

" Flabbergasted."

" And that's exactly where that acted in my mind as well I'll tell you know."

" For Kristy did okay and hasn't done."

" Here preserving going to answer your pops into -- you with the."

" I got an active despite this presentation -- you know what it is and you -- you -- how we doing on time Palestine who got left here."

" It's."

" We'll -- domains are so ridiculously cheap for our sponsor godaddy.com. That you can register and insulting and demeaning to name and putting your friends website just for the element for less than the amount of money that's in the calculation right now."

" Think what their friends who was a little bit proud of his sexual prowess register the domain lose their virgin dot com and what it -- MySpace."

" Don't like this -- registered the domain worst show on the Internet dot com reported to Scam School worker rather proud of her own performance register the domain on an --"

" Damn I'm good looking dot com and play into your page whatever it is he created the outrageous -- waiting."

" Just make sure to send -- the links at Brian at revision3.com. We'll collect the winners and create a Hall of Fame -- domains Mac dot com don't forget to get the best -- and -- to whatever site you want it shouldn't use that code school employees at those two things think it's a good advice and more importantly he keeps me in business. --"

" Finally got a Mike right here in the middle -- questions -- Scam School questions about any of this stuff that but I -- appear -- anything else. -- are right in the Monica thing under which it. Europe with a zero excellent -- what's your question what. -- I think about John Edwards I think and find Ellis a south -- nailed it is in fact the biggest fusion universe. I mean essentially he's doing the same stuff I'm doing up here he's -- he's truly one of the bad guys who's using psychological manipulation in order to trick people into my into. Believing that he's talking they're dead relatives worst -- doesn't Michigan play where he clearly is profiting from making these people believe he's talking to the relatives but they sticks on a little tiny disclaimer at the -- and for entertainment purposes only and not actually saying yeah this is true it's a you know that's by the way I you know he I don't together showing right now. But he actually and this is also -- hurt legally I have to state that this is all my opinion and I can be totally wrong. But does nowadays he does purse -- greetings. For 5000 dollars a pop and says he has a six month waiting list and he claims that the reason is because he's so popular he could not possibly get to sit down with you for six -- six whole months. Me crazy skeptic maybe a bit of a huge it occurs to me that if I had a budget of 5000 dollars. And -- of six months there's some very impressive facts that I could tell you by the time we actually sat down together. The question. How'd I come over my image. Sonic boom -- that's up."

" My my people -- Tell us the answer is obvious. I think all of us in in the early nineties wanted to look like dial from street fighter and -- years for me to finally get it down. So vivid imagery intimate -- kind of thing. Yep thank you barriers. How does hasn't won a life and times ever gone spectacularly bad there's a video. On around the Internet. Of what appears to be Brian Brushwood screwing up a certain night -- to ligaments in his video. The -- guys the idea is that video is fake I didn't -- gag. For a friend of mine everything in the show is taking a little bite out of amber and myself eating fire. When most embarrassing. Things is to lead onstage as I've experienced several times that had a connotation I didn't mean when -- dissident. The the idea of what I break it pretty public over my head I've -- you don't -- on the way down and done. Let him get the answer is yes everything is gone spectacularly long and terrible magician. I can't -- up. When you say you guys you need magicians that's. -- It's a little bit difficult for me a palette that you know I tend to wanna you know -- going to the bar instead but you most magicians when they need each other it's constant must mention you -- I'm all right -- Right here literally."

" You talk about the -- here also and people like Neil Strauss. People in the pick apart at school what do you think. And apple I guess underworld I thought."

" None of the questions about -- Neil Strauss the game to pick up artist. That hasn't as a matter fact. I -- I -- involved in this presentation -- a very unique perspective coming from the outside coming in -- I think like anything these -- tools that can be used for good -- for evil I think there are a lot of people who who. Are very. Kind of -- up there in their social shelves and the game for the first time suggested that there is a predictable set of things you can do to get an outcome that you -- and as a result these people go out and and for the first time actually tried to meet other people -- a lot of positive things -- on the other side there are people who feel like other people are are pleased to be played with. And of course I think that's terrible so so I I loved reading game if you guys -- read it every game I'm Neil Strauss fantastic an impact a lot of material I talked about now was mentioned in the game by doctor Robert -- the need -- need influence is a phenomenal book that's a lot of hard science behind it. But I guess my short answer is what do I think it's whenever you make and it you know it's a use it for good use of preamble. I don't see anything inherently wrong with knowing about the way. How to manipulate people and and the way the human mind response to different banks. -- you're talking about you're talking about. I have to be honest is the opposite actually you're you're saying continue go to performance mode and go out of performance mode certainly -- onstage. Everything's -- heightened alert I'm paying attention to all the non verbal cues and that kind of thing. I think you build up a certain level of unconscious competence. You gotta be at once familiar with of the floor you've got you've got to -- incompetence where you can't do it. And you know you can't do it you've got. -- competence. Where you can do it's and you know you can do it -- but you know when you're doing you're turning it on on purpose which is what you're talking about. And then you have. Unconscious competent competence wears on all the time and I only if react and really screwed up that metaphor already. Ahmed and that's what you're talking about you reach a certain goal of -- contents all the to our unconscious competence all the time but certainly there are times you've. Turn it off. --"

" That's a very very good question how do you keep yourself from being a victim without appearing rude."

" That's part of what these guys rely upon and part of it is having your defense mechanisms."

" Already laid out in front of you you know when you see -- a lot of times we have more advanced warning. Before -- situation that we would necessarily thinking you can see somebody being harassed right in front -- whatever you've got a time and you know he's about tomorrow begins on the Q1. Is when you're aware that's recent vacation in order for that -- you have to accept something you've got to take that flower you've got to take that that's something in order to feel obligated to give the money afterwards so keep yourself."

" Out of the way in the -- the very beginning. If you find yourself embroiled."

" Which you can do is what typical pattern in eruptions come out of nowhere and shake them up best way to do that is to -- blue question. For example there in the middle of doing some kind of hard sales pitch and you send -- a -- they would dollar patent Robert Powell in his book influence. And innocent. -- I talked about six action and it is really interesting stuff like precipitation of Ramallah angle and their. And it and then and then before is just respond like he'll likely to have for breakfast today. And it big headaches -- restaurant around here while yes there is okay on the copyright back in knocking off. -- that person asking the questions is in charge of the conversation and there's always. -- techniques and tricks you can use to to go and all -- for your actions. Bring it. Up. --"

" It depends on the context. There are certain."

" Times I get hired for a religious institutions and routines that I think are hilarious maybe not so much appropriate for those audiences. You certainly get shock and all in those situations. But other I would say if you're familiar with another company and yes on the New York show the -- live in New York I'm -- that -- GDP -- to appear on -- once -- I don't do a damn thing during that I just sit back until it goes three and laughed and everyone. When it is scared us and that's that's easily my favorite routine right now. -- Not really a question that is the note you may not thank you very much for being period yes. Yeah now there you don't have a television on my magic tricks and other. Well it is pertaining to. Oh good all know this is a compliment to okay not because I give these people I get these people -- like I could put you might have exposed -- tricks are done."

" Please come together to share."

" So you talk about getting people like you we get about this case you've giving something. When you first walk down on the greatest. Follow me on Twitter on what to do something in the end you have to be part of we have seen it you automatically get Ahold of people following you all you give a speech that you like you guys keep you. Used to beat out the thing and then everybody goes you got to."

" All have that happen interesting. What -- unexpected side benefits. This I don't know that. Any other goods in the area."

" Don't try to get a cap on my god okay first of all screw you Chris was in case period Kelly's son your party was way too and far away. I I I ended up who I'm running three miles home in the rain. Didn't --"

" Oh yeah they got and the guy actually slowed down to another one cent a ha ha okay well I'm well thank you let off LP went."

" Yeah I was wondering why do. You -- your day. Huge -- yeah."

" We got I think we have a few more minutes here's the other presence."

" What -- what are -- here. --"

" I believe this guy yes. -- I got -- that's very is and then I will meditate upon that in and post and answer has a little bit later and yes."

" We. How much. -- And he's real because -- in the in the UK there's this kind of going to just like humans. Yet. Yeah you talk about -- right. Yeah as it is that how much faster business like of the stuff or is that this place. 01. Years old. Just that you. --"

" Well it's -- and popular adjourned around materially from them is really working medalist and an entire world I love this stuff is done. One of the things he's done has been so impressive is to change the rules of the game on passing -- sheets August that easy way to sloppy way to do is that John -- way to get up there -- just stopped coming out of context. Claiming NB SP and all of a sudden everyone gives you adoration. Jerry Brown is a genius. Doing two different performances simultaneously he's doing one performance. For the people onstage he's doing another performance. For the audience at home and they're both having similar but different experiences and what's great about your rounds will be the first person he come up and I you know same you might not gonna do a grandmother -- like the only time obviously and you very very cool guy. Certainly. There are things that were happening here and now that are a 100%. Real an anti written. Represent them all the things I'm I'm using a bit of chicanery in order to illustrate a point. In an unfortunate not liberty to say which is which but -- other -- did you notice that that's certainly not happy to be going up. In -- over here -- often. -- latest now begins. Stated that this is always awkward because after the show people will come. It's it's a yet to play some kind of stone faced game where it's like they walk up and they just are shouting -- stuff done and there are judging your reactions like these problems down the ladder."

" You know I -- us. Any other questions already."

" That you everything is -- police. Real life scenario where it was. Ethical dilemma."

" Yeah yeah and not that happens that's a very good question. Usually the side effect of the kind of the question is whether or not using these abilities. Parade it has put me in an ethical mine. And usually because for example with Scam School we want to illustrate certain certain things for example we want to expose -- shortchanged pond which is a way of using. Tricky words to make people think that they're getting more money out of out of -- situation than they actually are but of course the best way to illustrate that is with. Is with undercover video footage when ordered to do actually have to go out -- actually have to. Do crime and there are up."

" It's a very interesting slippery slope I I tried to. As -- at any moment anything I'm doing might suddenly have."

" The bright light of of daylight shone upon it and I would have to answer for exactly what I was doing so that's that's sort of my weird you know line that I -- it is to stick to -- makes sense I don't know. Anything else on the -- right here."

" Yeah."

" I. There's right here dealer here in Austin my -- done by Shannon -- donor arson and arson August just got married again she is asked for years and years. -- to love for me to tell people where I get my hair done that's here in Austin but done. But nowadays it's a it's as a whole system -- reaction it is you've been YouTube video showing how it's done if you type you know Indian prime -- here. But there. That's because I hate here why does anybody doing it and yeah if they don't think we're not about done here. Had already hear your colleagues aren't prepared. --"

" Very good very good very good question question is how many of these principles actually translate to being done over the Internet certainly whether it's over video conferencing or any -- you -- some form of interaction you're gonna see these things -- going to see people being self deprecating using your name look at spam that's the shortest way to look at it."

" The best spam actually has your name in there appears to be personal correspondence to you so that's something that's going -- your -- going to be and in the reply to stand and offer some form of free gift and of course that's precipitation again and give you some of them like the Nigerian 4144149. But Nigerian -- to -- the authority ftp that's -- it's -- up."

" And I think that's -- a -- I got my name is right resonating SLI."

" And that's tips you now -- open to a life of Brian thanks to yours truly. Don't forget if you have any comments questions -- things you wanna know about this battle right directly at riot at revision3.com. Or better yet hash it out on the boards where that's at revision3.com. Slash scam school and as always have to follow my adventures all over America. At twitter.com slash woods."

" Thanks so much guys."

" We'll see you back in the --"

" Very good very good very good question question is how many of these principles actually translate to being done over the Internet certainly whether it's over video conferencing or any -- you -- some form of interaction you're gonna see these things -- going to see people being self deprecating using your name look at spam that's the shortest way to look at it."

Brian, I gotta know.

Is the self-deprecating humor that you often use just a product of your social instincts, or is there actually a social engineering aspect there?

I guess my thought is that by stating an obviously false negative statement about yourself, you make your audience assert a positive sentiment. You: “Everything has gone horribly wrong at some point, I’m a horrible magician” Audience (mentally): “That’s funny, but he’s actually pretty good at what he does”. Perhaps it also plays in with the “make em laugh” trick. You get your audience to both laugh and appreciate you, and at the same time affirm to themselves that you are not actually whatever negative thing you just joked about being.

I have no basis for any of this other than what I’ve picked up from Scam School and other social engineering shows and my own intuition, so I could be completely off base here.

I don't think it's a calculated move, but a reaction I've had for years against people who take themselves seriously. I think after watching enough people and thinking "Whoa, who does this jerk think he is?" enough times, it became important to me to always communicate that I don't think I'm better than anyone else.

But I love that your scam school question has you questioning everything!

You should've split it into three parts and called the Q&A "When Audiences Attack." I don't think I could've kept composure during that kind of a rude Q and A. Nerds really are vicious.

That said, as a midget in a wheelchair, I find self deprecating humor and quick wit can do 3 things.
- It acknowledges the "elephant in the room." The tendency is for people to avoid or ignore adversity instead of accepting it.
- It sets the bar low, and excuses their shallowest thoughts. If a person is thinking "What a strange looking kid?" and then they hear that, it comforts their conscience and allows them to stop worrying about it.
- It allows you to own your image and how you are received. From there on out, your true qualities will be represented, not their assumptions. They'll be receptive to suggestions about you and your character.

Honestly, without this technique, people often ignore me, or don't listen to the words I use and just hear "over" me. I've got a few other tricks I've had since I was really young, but I'm only now recognizing them. I think we know a lot more about social engineering than we give ourselves credit for. You have to pay attention to the cues and signals you're already throwing out, and how people react to them.

What!

I thought we would find out how to do the ESP tricks.

I've seen methods of the picking a word out of a book style trick before. But they all involve the magician forcing pages, and handling the book (at least a bit) themselves. Brian didn't even touch the book after the guy took it.

That's definitley the best version of this effect I've ever seen.

But here's how I think it's done: The books are probably gimmicks, specially printed versions so that each page of the book has the same handful of "$3 words" but starting with different letters.

So Brian just needs to know 3 things to get the word:

1. Which book they chose.
2. That they will pick a big long word.
3. The first letter of that word.

The thing with the animal picture smells like a funny way of finding out the first letter.

That's how I'd do it anyway.

Great trick though.

As for the telepathic picture trick... I'm still scratching my head, but the first guy defnitely got a card forced on him :)

hey Brian just wanted to comment on your fake all stage passes.
when you stated that your posture and hesitation will decide if it works or not i completely agree. at the last concert i went to i attempted to get into the beer gardens which i am underage but hey worth a shot. instead of grabbing someone elses id i used my own which stated that i am 17 and i showed no hesitation at all. the bouncer confirmed that it was indeed my id and let me go through. the actions you present will make anyone believe. just thought id share one of my experiances. btw best show on the net

LOL. I'm sorry, delete my post if you want to.

It's just weird because every other scam school I've seen you do the trick and then tell us how it's done.

But when you don't tell us one, you gotta expect us to wonder and try to figure it out for ourselves. Right?

Anyway knowing the secret wouldn't stop me going to one of your shows, the art is in the performance, not the mechanics of how the trick works.
