Command the respect and admiration of others and build a robot.... that destroys other robots!

RoboGames founder and SFSU School of Engineering instructor, David Calkins, gives Patrick a primer on building a combat robot. From the wheel and controllers to the shell and motors, David Calkins shows us some really easy ways to come up with parts for this project and how to put all together.

**Currently RoboGames is currently out of stock on the kit David mentioned in this epsiode. When they're back in supply he'll re-post the order page for the kit and we'll link to it on this page.**

Some helpful links for budding robot creators are:

IFI Robotics: online store for purchasing controllers, high end wheels, and kits.

Scooters-Wheels.com great for picking up scooter wheels that you can re-purpose for your combat robot, cheap.

eMachineShop: Get custom machined parts online. Send them the specs and they'll send you back your finished product.

Machinery's Handbook Pocket Companion is a “A unique visual presentation and detailed information encourages daily and quick use, helping users save time and labor. Provides immediate application of fundamental and reliable data. Includes reorganized, distilled, and simplified material from Machinery's Handbook to increase usefulness while keeping the bulk down. Serves as a handy and more portable complement to Machinery's Handbook's larger compilation of data, standards, and text.”

Grand Wing Servo-Tech makes super cheap transmitter/receiver pairs for controlling your robot. Although based in Taiwan they have dealers across the US and the world.

" Is that that the system is brought to my -- dot com and flex right now we hear an engineering shop somewhere -- like to tell you where they got a lot of nice quote here. And that somewhere mister David called it robot builder extraordinary is gonna. Hear him. It looks like he's looking up important failure points in polls are so -- and I'm looking at a particular principles are going to be really funny this is. The machine -- and you can find it online and so when every building robots you'll find that this is a filthy disgusting and so little time. On you turned it all the time when nothing's really has it been handling medal threat yes. So that the startup known as a gentle and it'll be after you touch it ruin everything for him production. For -- gets you Fargo building combat robots and this is system."

" Arnold -- system entrepreneur into today's dvd collections. But I mean. How would you describe yourself robot instructor yoga instructor amber about geek about fanatic like sort of talked about a basic a thirty pound robot that you weren't talked about the basics of a thirty ponder about -- built a building a thirty ponder about which is you're good starter -- by you can use it for -- comment -- On you can even use it as an autonomous vehicle so this -- you can tap into the word go through some of the basic. Pain points in building it. A robot ability not about 250 bucks yeah so this is this a sort of thing you'll like it here in high school cater college junior member or you're listening you know you know obviously doesn't want to spend a lot of money. How to spend about 250 bucks and get a really basic. Robot which you lot of really cool stuff which and you -- a really cool stuff. No wonder the page."

" Where it's so -- to -- so the thing is is. Let's try to build a robot for as little money and you want. -- thing is you can -- combat robot and you can spend 10000 dollars to 200000 dollars 1900000 dollars robot. But -- the goal here is because this is like a shorter shorter platform. How can we build a robot for about 250 bucks pick the paper route money. And it is actually possible to build a good functioning robot about 200 but most of the components you'll be able to find at your local political. Even better. -- What is there about half a robot has motors you have to move so where where we find -- you can -- large scale combat motors. So this for example this is a robot specifically designed for -- that. Well what will this combat. What is the comment earlier about I'm hitting it guns plane flew United States specifically wound on. It's a bond reference device. A monitor on but it's specifically designed for that kind of torture is -- because being -- up against the shut up shut up against the wall it's not gonna melt the monitor I'm just not gonna blow up. It's it's basically. It's your Ferrari rather than your looks like somebody's got there analyze all the failure points exact competition that tried -- but of course. This cost several hundred dollars that bad that would be bad in this case another thing you can use. Is a scheduler so if you're going on -- remote on -- and her little scooter and -- here you can get a motor like this for about fifty bucks -- Not nearly as powerful as this but still -- a good starting point but more important and much more portable. But let's talk about Johnny Johnny sixteen Johnny has paper out. I'm content encryption it's a theory it's a theory I think it's only when these old guys through things and cars. I'm -- it except. Johnny. Can get a cheap electric -- this is a fifteen dollar harbor freight Chinese slave labor -- And what this -- has is. Most of your basic components for about it has batteries. As well these are useful. It -- useful it has a gearbox. And so basically you don't ever want to put your motor directly again you reels you -- it down so that improve your -- On all this for fifteen bucks. You take two v.s now you have enough opponents fear about the mosquito outside. There is. Fifteen underwater is that cheap -- So you can also go up and do something like -- well so here is a fine I think he's cost 150 bucks. I don't care. So how to tonight it's how to we get so. The -- is held on with a very rarity on in the world -- reverse threaded -- so you know -- you ready to looking -- ready tiny -- Com these are actually backwards. So it's lefty righty righty BC it's always a pain in the instrument. Like so -- feed exactly at -- at. So if you if you applicable -- meet our."

" And wrong theory it looks like I'm -- production and noon. Reeling. These are pure nearly hard to come -- always be careful when when you Karen don't and don't -- right. So now to take this part of the problem is is that it's designed to be a -- and not fall apart even -- cheap Chinese slave labors to listen to our. So now we have to do is we have to extract. That chuck you're walking towards the time what he's heard device."

" So this is really really really good way to pictures visit press that it referred. From its freedom -- but it's you're done with such force. That he has absolutely no interest in coming up her it was sixty got your recipient. So again this is a really get -- hurt yourself so over and do. -- are going to extract. You know I chose the voter against we're gonna you -- literally take against the -- did you -- that I don't do it exactly and it. I'm probably not that'll at least anymore and you're not gonna wanna be seen him. We put on the -- And in theory. It's just probably -- proper populist. Batteries that. So got Fed up knowing you take part ago that you can see their thoughts of speakers and don't and so now."

" You don't have to utilities. You can also go up in process. And you'll find it well or any rules or you can essentials. This is actually -- dual -- and if you look -- you compare the 200 you can actually see to spend looking at that this is a much higher quality motor. So we've got a steal your. Yeah exactly significantly more robust power significantly more about her case everything is is much more robust and so that's one of those things where. With you you get what you -- concede to defend. You get what you pay for and you know these are our crappy little government -- power -- But picture and they're great minister especially when it and the thing -- comment rebuts that you have to understand is is they're built to get destroyed. I mean -- when you put them in the movie smashing each other and -- to -- part. And -- back. -- well a good way to learn is by spending 200 dollars to kill your first robot rather than spending two -- Particular about sees."

" You'll get -- back online do us a favor tiered system don't godaddy.com dot com names as low -- dollar and 99 -- plus world class hosting. -- an easy website builders and much more. Entering the codes this woman check out not only are you save an additional ten dollars off many forty dollar more order you're gonna help keep us in business. Bring in the shows you."

" Four after hearing of him to go. Nice little you know I don't know -- for -- dropped after you movement managed to extract the motor and hear about combined. And a backpack like. So these controllers right here so those are the controllers and a finished product and it. This is gonna be expensive part of your about product okay is that this is the part that you can't cheat is is getting -- controller. Speak controllers come in all shapes and sizes and prices just like -- so. Just like we we go from you know good better. Even better to best motors. So you go with with speed controllers so for instance. You need a tiny little speed controller and the speaker -- passionate about ten camps. Okay so it's good this particular particular -- electricity that's a good healthy amount of electricity thing is when your robot is pushing against another about. You're sucking down more -- and you're normally so it's under heavier load. Com SP controller like this this particular one what actually control three different motors so in in this case you can have your left real. You're right we don't. -- your point there already -- reason. Or your your spinning weapon and there your -- whatever it is right. The problem with something like this is is that which really only good for robots have to about twelve pounds. So if you want to thirty -- about you have to get it would give. Go a little bit higher. So here we have. On the victor. The victor is there's -- speed controller put up I am company called -- first. This is they showed me. Of speed controllers this is this is here. You're good at -- no cheap. On controller that you can -- And become the multiple -- from time bubble pages and so. I can show you cheaper controllers that look exactly the same and yet one cost you sixty bucks one question 200 bucks. Guess the 201. Apple and those 200 -- one have a moral -- warmer on average so this fun this is your your baseline product as well had to handle up to eighteen volts okay. Coincidentally. That's making will that's an -- battery company coincidentally. Another another people battery so this is a great little speed controller for your combat robot -- here hockey robot or your your education so for thirty pound robot making volt battery pack -- controller. You're good to go on you're gonna need to be so you can buy com speed controllers that have multiple -- opinions like this. Again you can save money by buying minutes in on this is like I think about sixty bucks. Under control three things which -- gonna blow up and so basically use saved sixty bucks for about a week and half. And boom and it goes boom and your sixty bucks so if you put a weapon and you're gonna need three of these and if you don't have a weapon and you committees cut back. This is behind speed controller. This is a 400 dollars B controller this is because -- see he's -- far from here. Or so the -- course -- action -- heat sinks hope -- yes so basically when you -- he's now -- and you're looking and you can see your own little monstrous here. -- and then the same kind of -- children there. The differences is that this. Can take some when he announced that those mosque that's will be very hot so you actually heat sinks to a whole purpose underscoring the thing down an action comes of the content. This is just for one monitor them. So this is on the high end this is a 400 dollar and this is really what you want in this is about X seventy bucks and don't introduce some tactic that so -- into the us so this is actually going to be the lion share cost. Of your robot so basically you can get to -- To your -- Thirty bucks. To speed controllers. -- And what senator sixty bucks gotten so 6020. Your 150 bucks that's most of our expenses. Now how are we going to you know move our Republican -- and the motor can do anything by themselves meals. Meals threat so for Johnny and it's paper money. Scooter -- a scooter will cost fifty cents. It is -- thinks go to real dot com mostly and I honestly but these these scooter reels and and we that six of these robots. All the different colors to your wheels I think that -- wheels dot com or something like that. And they're thing is is is based Oscar -- so you can custom modify you're still here. And make it look prettier rate so it Alec you have a motorist leader. But you can also have in Orange wheels or pink wheels facial site shining like breaks over you know. LEP meals -- America. Teacher so you can get your -- This is okay. This is better and also but I find that you OC. So I didn't make this commons -- on assembled you have put together. This is a much more robust real you can also see it's got much more so on the surface area so when it's going to stick it's going to stick a lot better than I mean if you just look. You know I'm that's that's -- print -- pressure on. I'm whereas with a similar pressure I mean this is what is the yet grippy surface. What is bigger picture for stuff that's on that's a Revver and you can actually see it's it's -- carbon attention. Very capturing. So basically it all pulled this together and get my properties on the -- thought get a pop rivet -- one of those things you watch the matrix and you do this. I'm measure Russian TV -- think about it it is thoughts together. Companies put together too many. So we're also going to show you. Lots of different ways to Motorola today. And one of things isn't just the different components you can use the different tools. You can use basically if if you're like really old school teacher Amish on acts horse if you're really also you can do what hacks I think that's a really incredibly bad way of doing things I hate you media a lot of times they'll meal out of time to kill. Is this the template for the original this is a template and think you're going to build a robot -- home which you don't want to do. Is making mistakes on the expensive. What stands. Or or steal or whatever using you want to make your mistakes and dirt cheap by dark artwork. So if you wanna -- you're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing there. We designed this robot specifically so that we can just slot together just like a puzzle. -- highly music."

" You can you can look at our hearts and so we actually did this again the the goal of this particular robot kit was it. Anybody in their garage without her a big expensive -- off. Could could build this can not take -- world things are now. -- there's nothing the thing -- ideally everybody's robot to look a little different it should be it should shoot your purposes you know maybe you wanna you know put it. A big spinning blade on you want to longer robot may be want to put a -- currency were shorter about these things. This is -- postcard from time to combine it on the poker like. Five bucks for big -- each unit that your and it's great because you can cut it up very simply and then had a pattern. And so we do. You Paramount together based on this so -- corrupting and that's. So this is a secondary model this is there are prototype -- and so this is exactly the kind of thing that if you're making your about it home this is which one do you want me kind of -- And you can see it."

" Com a little really but when it went outside the model but that premiered it. But you know something like this you can make and you can -- that until you can make puzzle piece. Again if you happen -- software cats offers absolutely go cats you know you can edit he shifted off to. You know in the -- shop dot com yeah I -- thumb. And you and you get a grip better product that something when you're in the thousand dollar level if."

" For trying to do this you know for Johnny you know sixteen years old you've got a kit. Here -- can't you know and so basically Johnny can construe around and maybe he wants something that looks differently in this is when things that I really encourages -- is. We we trying to not only case. Specific place cause we want you know that level of Metallica one design class or he's right everyone is doing the -- exactly the opposite NASCAR we want it. Fifteenth completely different robots that look exactly nothing like each other -- talking in my -- and that's exactly nothing. This could reverse other fields -- for the NASCAR track so. What what you what you want to new garage if you want to build templates like this and take it right. Why well because like I said this is kind of cardboard as cheap -- dirt cheap this election. But that's not to -- This election is poly carbon is bulletproof glass and detect plastic you can you can you can have them. Com cut it to -- they won't come all the angles of these blatantly -- point. Until something you know this amount of time. It's probably about forty bucks. On which again you know keeps us -- an hour -- 200 dollar price point for -- for building a community -- it's -- so. Now let's talk about cutting it doesn't take a lot of patience this is gonna take a lot of patience to measure twice cut measure twice cut once. So. You pull this out of -- like discarded plaza that pulled aside and discarded plastic out. -- and this is about example this this is this is sort of thing that we use in terms of what not. What makes it that what makes it that -- you know this is realities have a mistake here but we're also makes it bad is as you can kind of see. Aren't -- here we're we're they've they've come officer. Okay and why is that most because we didn't use -- So before we drill we use this quote we go we use center conscience and -- things if you have one of those big 84 bit -- sets. Almost of all of them come with senate -- but it looks at those who worked -- it and never ever use them. It's basically to make little dent in the surface -- exactly to make a little bent on the surface material on what happens is if you don't make that dent. Or you can practice practice -- this piece of the word. To demonstrate bomb the bit we'll actually travel in and wander around and so walk itself -- rocket -- right over eventually -- go through. But it that the eventually part where you by that point instead of being here it -- right exactly over there. So review is -- demonstration was done in person punch and -- approach. And it if -- a senate -- business leaders hate paying only include anything with a sharp -- point so. This is spring and didn't so I -- is gonna and here. And then. And have a nice little old and it's right on target the tip of my Joe's gonna see animal tip of your -- those who see the whole. And I -- gonna go straight through. But if the trend over there receive that it's not an instructor. So what are the most important things that don't need is clamping your would. You don't like to have material swinging him around in the sort of it for those people who never actually I'm tried building a monster or. Significant product on what they don't realize is that when when that bit catches a lot of times the energy is transferred and so. That happens now if let's say for example going to meet. And you're working with like there's two horsepower and Oprah you're committed to wear cargo pressed. And you're holding it like this that these are -- real down right and and it catches. It's really easy for this to come across in his recorder to open up your hand and and blood is everywhere and you feel very foolish especially if you do that on camera. Yes it was curves like -- and it -- I can't require stitches so we're gonna actually clamp the children at this time this is many things like safety goggles that are really want to stress. That just like -- out -- doors -- for safety -- if you're going. -- I just can't stress that enough because I have so many stars -- but it. Com from things like this particular star right here and I didn't clamp it down and I pulled a muscle all the way back off the phone. I'm when that was killed it. And then typically and it hurt so always clamp your would -- or plastic or remodel or whatever danger you're working."

" Clips are cheap. Answer sheet I'm --"

" So this is our attempt to. Which used him before."

" Yeah. So here. It's we have a good example of her tight -- that is you conceded this is actually travelled to the point where you've moved. Pretty much a full radius of the drill bit over rumors reaction -- that that would be about."

" Let this. Yeah day yeah okay. Now what is drilling have to do with cutting. You might now. Ask a pilot haul so we can insert the -- from our -- exactly we have a pilot also a concern currently receivers are. And also you'll notice that -- a pretty bad at cutting room corners. So -- for instance. If we want. Possibly like this and what we're going to -- really measured distance over we're gonna drill a hole at the end and then Lesabre soft left into the right. And that way. We can get that we can at the corner Nixon's now obviously again if you have a laser -- here's something you can get nice clear cuts. But presuming that your your your average shop guy with a -- side and -- drill and those are only two tools. You can can still get a previous couldn't cope so let's do that. So we're gonna mark up and start really cutting so complex and is in this is actually technically macro on items he. It's up -- partners appoint her as the generic and and then different companies have different communities or or -- them there's very little cut out. So first from Garland. So there's online at. And we're gonna issues. Percent bunch of it."

" one of those slots that we slides that this is going to be for a slot ominous is this a spare equipment here affect so renewed her for turn our hope. --"

" So now we have a whole. We wanted to with the -- but we actually we we we need to pull slot here so overdue. Sort of marked the satellite person -- we -- the whole."

" Until then the clamps on Conan -- ordered a greater freedom one and we're gonna got a the other. And I will give people good example of why spending an extra minute or two to set up a guide to set up a guide would give you much better results you'll know. That the edges of her son my nice flat and so."

" No we're gonna cut a nice -- So there's on. Obviously real to --"

" And that's who can -- for him."

" And yeah."

" And that's what we -- god."

" Yeah."

" So how similar robot. A census gluing and story -- there is -- involved in the region including involved is because you're gonna probably want to take it apart to get back together after its speed up all the time so sewers -- factually -- drilling in these blocks right so but the thing is is that you really don't want to use both nuts and bolts. When -- pretty and your about the is just too easy. For those not to start falling Parton and you lose you -- like forgo as a threat locker and your money's -- four gallons -- so we use -- we use is little box here. And we actually. On tap these blocks and so this is another tool that is a very cheap tool which you can buy and an Indian mutiny find your taps. And so what that is is available harbor -- also available at harbor -- Here we knew we we've just cut up of a simple block. And we're not edited it slots and are very nicely. Mom and -- want to do is be able to. Screw here."

" bolt the who have access to drill. Press this and we're having access to the press here and so what's on what do demonstration reports. So -- kind of magic book."

" And again you do not have to buy machines handbook on most us -- information is available and club you turn on the Internet anywhere. And so we know that all of our com. On hurdles in Hillary's number -- pentium kind of robot you're building you might when he used -- called quarter twenties which means that. Quarter inch. On twenty -- data recorder that's not a quarter inch thick 120 threads every inch and so you might also talk about saying. A five sixteenths. 32 or something like this -- talk about a quarter 28 which. Finer thread there are a lot of options fail there are a lot of options can always pick. How do you pick one it's really based on the size you robots or something like this on a number eight screw this is pretty much -- If you're building a large 220 -- remind -- spending 5000 dollars. Spending you know rely -- over there then you're gonna wanna use to a quarter twice and something much stronger earlier much earlier. So we look up here in her little book and we looked at answering PUs. And number eight we need to attack pearl. Called a number 29. And so we go to Home Depot Rocketboom people -- of credit here meaning meaning buying commercials. I'm you just go to the -- department and you look for number 29 drill bit it'll cost you like a -- and half or something like that. Or if you have your -- drill bits like we do here. I've ever seen trails referred to those sizes. Yes so I'm more often than not unlike a quarter due to their courage turning an inch or something like that humble when you're really getting into machine your own robots from parts like that -- specialized."

" That -- take out our. Planet. And are trying to press and we we've so for those people who do have access to compress what's -- shown how to do the easy way. So here's at a press time and or recover quick quick and dirty how to. Threat a block. -- so first secretive com fill the whole Israel halt. And we know liberties and number 29. Soon. Now you'll notice. But if you put a piece of wood underneath. -- Don't get the nasty filthy bad toward the outside you don't get a nasty -- looking outside on and you'll also not managed to run. -- and you put those of us going to be the cost. We see it's nice smooth call. Rather than being very choppy and so if you don't you something like this he could very titles that. And you'll see the benefit of what -- called frat house."

" So your your your holders about five bucks and you national tap is another. I'm an obviously have to get a different -- for every size every different sides of science for a company is one thing that you should try to do in building your about whether you're building a thirty -- a month or 220 -- Keep everything it's. If feasible and so that way basically if you just need to go grab. Poultry need to grab a -- or something you have fifteen different accounts and -- things you doesn't she look like. Fifty year old cars versus five -- Carson had to go from like forty different pastors for exactly. It's simpler it's simpler that so bomb attack works it's basically just like. Screw you screw. Except that you're actually. Carving out threat to basically go around about wants immunity then -- backed off a little bit -- helps break. Founded. The -- that's being blocked from there. So now we've actually created -- not accepted this is a magic night. That we can have multiple different holes and anything and we can also going to outline different pieces going to -- wanted to pieces and everything so. For a pretty an example we didn't measure this with a with our actual design robot -- all of these these pieces are interchangeable where everything -- measured local. But now."

" Look at that look at don't."

" You want to thank Netflix response from the subs -- the system that places got over 75000. Titles on life they delivered to your doorstep plus if you're makes -- got you look at Blu-ray titles you don't have your local store no problem free shipping both ways to your home they got over forty shipping -- almost all -- happen in a single business day that puts planets are from four dollars and 99 cents a month and isn't -- you can get to know -- two week free trial membership check it -- at www. Netflix dot com slash system and if you check out helps us keep bringing the program you thanks to Netflix and all of our sponsors -- system."

" So let's talk about wire act that. Tom. So you want to use a good. They gage wire. Com one of the things that you learn as you build robots. Is that where can get very hot. And we talked about this talked about where couples and taken -- so there's the thicker the wire the butter and honey in this case. You know this is probably about he gained twelve gauge of the night. Which is which is which is fine for our robot you know it in -- thicker great big 220 pound robot threatens them into -- like double -- yeah yeah exactly. Like -- something like that. Com so basically were what we do is is we weren't -- now these are what are called Anderson bucks so we've done is an action taken. Taken a battery packs and out of."

" Our base and all batteries action -- in -- he size cells so most of us realize that the what's inside of this or any other battery pack. That you find this is just it just to see that. And so the purposes of of this episode of his critique it up which you really want to do. Is you take up these batteries and you put an old two liter Coke bottle round pen on and then -- take hair -- and you blow that. Com Coke bottle and we he and we shrink around isn't it nice and -- And it added were called Anderson -- he's our energy problems when they are is they're they're good solid high gauge plugs but they're also quick release. So after match I can I can plug in new batteries and unplugged the old batteries. And put a much harder for seconds -- seconds like that. And yet. Through its its its just that -- And so we've done is were actually two very tax I'm. But the backpacks are going left -- right we're actually running these in parallel so that. Both motors' share book battery packs and that we have one that are actually the -- the news you Leo G you don't manages to -- On the spinning circle you know an impediment because only one motor's power. And so would actually designed specifically. So that everything's precipice and we can just. -- Like -- so clever about it or transmitters you prepare the country. I'm guessing this would be the receiver that these receiver yet."

" Com and these little receivers. Are great again this it's -- press OK so how much money do you want to spend and how high quality of of an object you want. I'm GWS is a Hong Kong company. And they put out dirt. Cheap receiver transmitter -- so both of these costs together about 4050 bucks extra you had its peers she's the tonight's four channel system. You can get up into really high -- Two point four gigahertz. Amino twelve channel home. Really good. I'm quality stuff on those are gonna caution to people. That's what you have om is is you have swap global crystals and so these crystals are actually mated to the basically in this. Transamerican we talked to. To this of the bits of and you and I would have different frequencies to some room on -- on -- And so now here here we have as -- we can controller about four immediately got a point there were something like that we can we can. He's Basil music forward controller -- you victory for noon it's it's one. To. Pretty. -- Robots -- don't work like a car I'm. A car and push accelerator down to cartons bastard is -- market. Prosper my system called pulse width modulation okay what that does is it cycles the motors on and off on and off on -- anything so if you want to know quarter speed. -- the -- actually go on for about. Split second and go off of course split seconds and so on so -- you half speed it's alter any. And off on upon my. You're going full speed. That's actually get people so it's like sixty that says sixty Hertz at that I do segments of that on and then within the -- on conference and so those posters and that translates into. Slow medium. -- And now we can just as easily. Arm run the same robot instead of officer -- receiver we could we could put something like basic stance against that basic stamp automatically puts out the right and constant signal. -- These controls in this depending on what kind of transmitter. You buying my. I'm sometimes you have channel mixed in sometimes you don't what channel mixing is it is so right now the way this is hooked up is. But down a movie in the right. Left or right would be the left and but that doesn't really work well. -- FBI to go forward that field over here backwards. So what you do is use something called channel mixer. And so this is a channel mixer. And would channel mixer does is it takes those two signals. I'm and it figures out that if I'm pushing forward I wanna go straight full speed and but if I'm pushing up to this corner I want to turn to the left full speed and so on and so forth in the channel mixer will caution you ten dollars. If you buy it better transmitter most of the better transmitters have unfortunately X and that's just because. This kind of motion is getting more and more common and so did the transmitter companies like -- good high tech earth ala. And one half channel which is right rate of."

" So the last -- talk about."

" Is mounting our wheels -- so what we do is we go. And we combined dirt cheap. Dirt cheap wheels for -- that. And the nice thing is as these come with hearings on them so -- fifty cents get a real. Also comes with two and experience what bearing does is basically it allows it to spend freely so if I if I put my finger through there. We can see. The -- days to go senators are still on and so we've done that are about. Is we monitor hearings on the sign him nominee put a little run through there so now it's basically. You're basically -- exactly."

" This is obviously a very low grade dirt cheap robot into the trying to build you could step up things significantly so for instance here. You get to motors for a -- there's no reason. Mind you couldn't have a robot with farmers and okay so that would be better if we have you know I'm. Both left side -- wheels and motors involved bright sides. And antlers you can also change your motors -- one thing you can see here. Is obviously you -- have happened here so we have change here and -- French readers those these are no longer free all wheel drive is all wheel drive that's exactly. I actually. Attacks that. So -- actually touch sent to Leo what we've done we take another piece Alexa and on and we turn it down on -- list and so unfortunately most people here. Aren't gonna avalanche. We're going to where does one get one of those. Well there's all sorts of different things you can do you really are you really want to do is -- a good piece of plaster model that's gonna that's going to press fit in here and not turn and then we've in the same thing we did for. Armed with a different. -- so instead of tapping four. Assembly we've now tab so now. Much. Problems is that -- renders that this is what's called reverse threat outside I mean for that -- as -- regular."

" This amount."

" So I can find -- pipe that for a piece of pipe that would fit in there anything like that. And you've used -- locking on the other side so basically because one turns forward and when Kearns moved back. Once they're both together and it's self -- so you have to worry about the real ones."

" So we mention the kicker Brett smash killer so one of the things -- the -- is actually has the fascinating blacks vote and what do you what do you call the thing goes from that your drive to appeal. That's the real. The the hub. The -- so -- got the hub and actually just a couple of pre cut -- yes so if you want to buy the kit I'm a hundred dollars would get you to pre cut -- permanent on these things. Com you have to union work -- and you've and you've got jobs as well for -- so basically now on have to do is go out and buying. Your -- some things like that you can we can also hold them to -- and everything else and if you would have the joy of having all the polling arm yourself personally you know it's not about -- when things as we actually stressed that we're we're not in the business of selling room but it certainly in the business three that they -- much competitions. I'm and that's one of those things where. Our goal is really as educators is to get people -- their own robot so you can Medicare it. -- it's a fun way to go it's it's a good we can project you know he just happens to everything together. -- but what's more fun I think is is building your your own robots and coming up with your unique designs so that you know we have a whole bunch of these look exactly the same another trainer robots. But what's more fun is is when you have. Fifty or hundred different robots and each one looks radically different from from the other and you build it yourself there's a whole lot more pride. Involved in me and coming up with your own design and building it and failing -- big part of process. And that's one of the things and it if you need exactly. You know. 10000 square feet of -- and -- yet but -- Because you're gonna -- you're gonna you're gonna make mistakes and that's that's part of our -- going to be almost it's -- be 2 in the morning mom you know there's satellites and shop attendant and then there's not let and let Sam. So the natives are -- engineers -- is getting restless. Should we show what all this can lead to -- excellent -- flawlessly to. This is really the end project army and this -- you know really takes everything we talked about too deep sense. So what you have here is here are your voters these are now we're no longer -- dealing with -- motors we're not dealing with custom designed -- motors. Yet I split people -- the power motorcycles. Yeah you can even definitely kill somebody -- you know when this we we have our own. Cute and we have constitute tanked high pressure test regulator and a tentative regulator attached to our. Actuators and so basically desist letter F yes this is. This robot will drive under another robot on and then the bum actually we'll wolf look him up. We all wheel drive we have all wheel drive chains it has all the change -- attention this or battery compartment. What you -- we have teachers here I mean attention her alone. On this robot cost more than a little carried on about it just looking. The dispute controllers. In cost more thing about 500 popped at about 500 pop. This whole robot if you disregard any of the labor and we should disregard the cost of labor -- the time but just the raw parts and it. This robot you're looking about 2025. Dollars. About a thousand hours later but easily and that's the other thing with robots is is. A robot you develop relationships with your robot is it's no longer it's not mastered finished kind of thing it's like being married. Did you know the relationship changes you know so what you're done you know this is actually the third revision of this particular robot called. I'll gladly -- to chat with. -- there there is gladiator and there is -- paler and -- Palin to a similar happens with with typical robots isn't sure upgrading and eventually upgraded so much. That your your final product is almost nothing like what your original one was so for instance you you thirty pound robot you can start with that thirty pound robot. And announcing want to graduate to a hundred point on where you can use those seen -- high speed controllers in your 120 pound robot's an entire history of shifting you know. You know and so eventually you just build out. From you know that little starter it to something as big an impressive -- this cool. That we didn't go like start to finish building single wrote we. Now that that's when there's things -- two going to search finished ability and even not thirty pound robot would have taken this the showtime about you know five hours to mastered finished. So everything we've done it is just deep overview. Of these are the basics of robotics at the ports. He can be exactly. I'm and eventually can you can end up something like that."

" I like it so David we're gonna try to blows stuff up over there by the milling machines. And it isn't that court. We haven't -- stick around for the Democrats with the democratic figure out of the credits. Be where robots can take you strange and wonderful places for thinking guys as always watches system and we gonna have a leak. Of resources on line for -- intact and you get more information about how people solve the -- problems sources idea is. Go the web page WW -- Revision 3 slash system and able to hear your feedback so email us system SY STM revision3.com I'm Patrick Norton. -- A great day."
