We show you what does the Microwave does to WiFi and talk low cost 2.4GHz/Bluetooth experimentation tools with Hak5's Darren Kitchen and answer the classic question: is this energy saving product a scam? Stop iPhone Rumors, Roger reviews a pair of waterproof camcorders: the Toshiba Camileo BW10 and Samsung W200 and talks about why he hates cheap camcorders. New parents that want a top of the line HD Camcorder: we pick between the Canon Vixia HF S21 or Sony HDR-CX560V. Great ideas for recording instruments... and fixing iTunes stuttering!
Tekzilla Episode 235
Why, yes, we'll help Stop the iPhone 5 Rumor Insanity! We've heard from multiple sources: there's a new Roku 2 on the way, along with Google News Badges and Textbook Rentals on the Kindle. Finally, ArsTechnica is kickin' ass on tech history -and the future- with Speed matters: how Ethernet went from 3Mbps to 100Gbps... and beyond.
An Australian viewer wants to know: is the EnergySmart PowerSaver legit??? We haven't had a chance to test it (and neither one of us is a physicist) but we're not seeing a lot of win based on the info on the product's website. Where's a Kill A Watt when we need it???
Wondering what a microwave oven or your 32 neighbors with WiFi are doing to the local 2.4 GHz spectrum? Maybe just want to know which channel you should use when you set up that new 802.11n router? Then check out Hak5's ringleader Darren Kitchen demo of Ubertooth, a slick affordable open source tool for Bluetooth experimentation that does a pretty good job sniffing WiFi! ((Want your own Ubertooth? Check the HakShop!)
We all share a ton of content online everyday... well, at least some of us do. Wouldn't it be nice if you could sort all that content, those checkins, instagrams, tweets, videos, etc, all in the same place? Enter Memolane, this week's "Website We Just Can't Get Enough of!" It captures your memories from all across the web, and letting you make a timeline and tell a story with them... Veronica's got a demo in the video!
Waterproof camcorders: are the pocket sized Toshiba Camileo BW10 and Samsung W200 worth your cash this summer, or should you hold off? Roger Chang has a review!
Nelson's "looking for a HD camcorder in the $1000 range with 1080p, electronic viewfinder, good still picture quality, and easy enough for the technologically inept to use. My current thoughts are the Sony HDR-CX560V or the Canon Vixia HF S21. Any suggestions?" Hint: Roger bought one of these HD camcorders for his own use. Watch the video to find out which one!
Jeremy saw the email about stuttering in iTunes in Windows and writes, "I've had similar stuttering in video playback with iTunes that could be resolved by setting iTunes' CPU affinity to a single CPU. This would indicate the issue was the difference in threading between OS X and Windows." Thanks for the heads up, Jeremy!
Everybody agrees: the Shure's SM57, is the entry level microphone of choice for recording instruments... now find out what the Tekzilla audience records with "for just a bit more money." You also sent in great info on mic placement!
