Dang, a lot of you use dynamic DNS, and a lot of you wrote in with info, including what happened to free DynDNS accounts, how you can still get a free DynDNS account, and the hoops you'll jump through for it. You also sent in OpenWrt's list of DDNS tools, your picks for free DDNS options, including afraid.org, Namecheap.com, DNSdynamic.org and No-IP Free ...and something that's even simpler than all those. Ed writes in, "What is the best way to capture stills from a Xbox360 via HDMI? In a perfect world, I would passthrough the video signal via HDMI cables so we can use the Xbox like a regular Xbox, but when we need to grab stills, a PC could see the output, too." Transfer Switch Tip, Portable Jump Start, Awesome DIY Portable Power Kit!

On the emergency power front... Bill has a hot tip for anybody with a manual transfer switch that connects their generator to the electrical system in their house. John's favorite emergency power source is a portable jump start kit. Jason has an -awesome- 12V power pack he built from "a Storm case, a few recovered deep-cycle (UPS) batteries, a small solar panel, and a 12 volt outlet splitter." Sweet!
