Robert has an electronics project to design and build before he finishes his degree, do we "know a good quality soldering kit between $50 and $75?" And could we do a tutorial? Sure! Check out the Soldering Your Own Headphone Amp episode of Systm for an excellent tutorial from David Calkins. SparkFun's Soldering Basics are great, too.
For kits, consider Make Magazine's Deluxe Make: Electronics Toolkit (Patrick loves the PanaVise!) or SparkFun's less spendy Tool Kit Intermediate. Want to spend even less to get yourself soldering? Check out the list we put together from SparkFun.com in the video!
It's a pain to troubleshoot OS X when it won't boot up. You need a 3rd party disc, or an external drive with OS X installed... unless you've installed AppleJack. It's a friendly (and free!) menu based tool that can repair disks, dump corrupted cache files, validate preference files, even clean up virtual memory. If you run OS X, install it today!
Dave reckons "it would be great to have a section where you guys test out a ton of mice and keyboards and come up with the winners for different categories." (You can get 'em from PCKeyboard.com and Matias these days.)
Aliph's back with their newest Bluetooth headset for your cellphone, the Jawbone ICON. What's the story on the custom applications designed for this tiny earpiece? Does the onboard NoiseAssasin technology work? What's the one thing about it that drives people nuts? Watch the video to find out!
