Top 5 Predictions for 2011

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 – running time 04:06
Tom makes his best stab at what's going to happen in the coming year.

I know it's rather common for shows to rely on the end of the year to give them an easy topic like predictions. But they're fun!

Every year I rack my brain trying to come up with some good crystal balling (I just coined that phrase) in the attempt to see how good I am next year.

Last year on the CNET Top 5 I predicted the following:

  1. IBM would get back into hardware - Wrong!
  2. I predicted Palm would be sold or go out of business - Yes! Thanks HP.
  3. I said cloud services would get serious. Partly right. Not as serious as I though. No telcos got into it in a serious way, yet.
  4. 3DTV twill be everywhere I said. Not exactly.
  5. And I said Apple would produce a tablet in the summer for $899. well I was close. Spring and $499-$829.

So yeah, I wasn't all that prescient last year. But this year will be different. watch and learn the future!

Have an idea for a Top 5, tell it to us in the forums or send me a reply on twitter to acedtect.

Colleagues are now in different offices, working from home or are always traveling. It's impossible to get everyone you need in the same room for a meeting. That's why I recommend GoToMeeting by Citrix. The whole team can attend a meeting online no matter where they are. All you need is a computer with an Internet connection. Whoever leads the meeting can show their desktop to everyone else in the meeting and everyone can collaborate on documents in real time. Go To Meeting is much more efficient and faster than a boring ole conference call. You can try Go To Meeting FREE for 30 days But you must visit gotomeeting.com/tom That's go to meeting dot com slash tom for a FREE 30 day trial.
