Dan and Jeff post more than almost any other hosts on this network. Alex isn't around (posting, at least) much, but I don't blame him. I'd imagine he's substantially busier than Dan and Jeff since he has three shows on the go. These are not guys that don't care about their fanbase. All around friendly dudes who, at this point, could probably keep this show going without ever stopping by the forums or stopping to talk to people they meet elsewhere. Still, they do it.

If you'd like them to be on hours a day, you're just asking too much. Otherwise I just think you're wrong.

You also have to keep in mind the things they can't talk about here. Have a game they''re reviewing in upcoming weeks? Not a good idea to drop by a thread and discuss their feelings on it.

I own it for the PS3, and my only problem with the Half-Life 2 main game (didn't try Ep 1 or Ep 2 yet) is the audio. It's really hard to hear people unless I'm right on top of them, which is ridiculous.

Apparently some other people don't have this problem, and I don't have the issue in Portal (might be due to the fact that the sound source is not coming from a point in 3D space, but I believe follows the player around (if you can visualize this).

Framerate issues never bothered me unless they make a game unplayable, which is rare. The little I played of HL2 showed me no framerate issues worth mentioning.

Orange Box is great value for your money - especially at $20! - no matter how you look at it.

well, the game's story isn't quite as cohesive as i wanted but it's way more cohesive than most Naruto games out there which are mainly fighters. i think Ubisoft did a pretty good job. i'm gonna wait for Broken Bond to drop in price before i pick that up.

I tried watching it when I was sick and I couldn't get past around half-way. I may give it a shot again now that I'm older/more mature/more cultured but I may not.

Were those ladies in the Supermarket 'Spree' competition actors?

I swear I've seen their faces before. Without makeup, etc., It's always hard to tell, but I swear I've seen them in eps of Law and Order or a sitcom somewhere??

Anyways, the segment was brilliant. It also showed off a bit more of Steve's talents--I assume he was camera op. Running and staying in focus and not making me dizzy is a gift. Great opening, too.

I think it doesn't really matter too much, to be honest. But there is a bigger problem with reviews in general, and that's the whole numbering system. (Rant time.)

A review is just one person's opinion of a game. As such, it is never a guaranteed accurate indication of whether or not you, yourself, will really like said game or not.

IGN released one review of Grand Theft Auto IV, and it was a perfect 10.0 out of 10.0. This was that reviewer's opinion, and potentially all of IGN staff agreed with it, but what if one person there did not agree? If I worked at IGN, that score would not represent the whole of IGN. Sometimes IGN offers their Second Opinion add-on at the end of a review, but still, that opinion doesn't change IGN's official score.

Metacritic averages don't give you the full picture either - a game with an average of 95% means nothing if you agree with the one review that gave the game a 50% rating. This is by far the more valuable service that Metacritic provides (even more than the user score, which as of late has been totally inaccurate due to fanboy wars), as you can scan through the different review scores and read over the complaints people had. There may be a huge issue that will annoy the hell out of you, but other people might overlook easily, and that might affect buying decision more than the 95% average score. Similarly, you might find a game with a low average score, yet some people gave it high scores. Maybe they are just being too hard on the game, in light of other, better games. That's a problem I have always had with reviews and scores. I can get a lot of enjoyment out of a bargain-bin game such as TimeShift or The Darkness, regardless of what the reviews said. Just because other games maybe did it better, doesn't mean I only want to play those other games repeatedly.

Another issue is the shadiness behind reviews. I won't get too into it, but as you know, TRS didn't "review" Dead Space due to the advertising. This is respectable, and I think demonstrates the recognition of potentially dishonest reviews existing - if they didn't exist, there'd be no issues, no reason to think in that manner. I don't doubt that some reviews scores are artificially inflated, and you shouldn't either. I've experienced the pressure to change and tweak reviews from publishers myself in the past, and I wasn't even getting anything out of the deal!

The point is, everyone is different, and this is where TRS gets it very right. They are three (four, the few times Steve's opinion appears) guys who have generally varied gaming tastes. They don't necessiarily cover all bases, but the chances are good that most people can identify with the majority of the tastes of one of them. For myself, it is Jeff. I have a buddy who I think, would he take my advice and watch the show, would identify primarily with Dan.

When I was designing a review system for my own site, I had to really think it out. Even when I thought I had come up with the best idea ever, that avoided the scoring problem, it was still not good enough. Then Tayler came up with an idea that we ran with (trophies), and I think it is roughly equivalent to TRS' variety of opinions. At a glance, you can see the scatter of opinions of a game given by our staff and by our users.

Anyhow, I rambled a bit off topic, but the fact is that a lot of people look only at numbers, and compare games like Resistance 2 to Gears of War 2 and say "look, Gears 2 has a higher score, so it's better!" when it really is all down to individual opinions. Some people hate FPS games, and if that's the case, they'll choose Gears by default.

A single review, regardless of the context, is always going to be biased. That's just how the world works. That's why I think that most existing review systems are flawed, and why I look to TRS for the most valid single-source for opinions on games.
